Humans were wiped out long ago after the great war led by Aelra, the supernatural lord, centuries ago.
Or, at least, that's what the supernaturals believed. After the great war, the supernaturals—werewolves, vampires, elves, faels, witches, and other supernatural beings—lived in harmony under the sovereign rule of Maelva, Aelra's grandson. Over generations, humans became nothing more than a forgotten species, only spoken about in ancient history books. But unknowingly to the supernatural world, a tiny group survived. Deep inside the enchanted forest of Arandour, they built a hidden settlement where they lived completely isolated and heavily protected from the supernatural world. "Move it, baby," the fat, bald rogue with brown fangs said as he pushed her. Aria hissed in pain but gritted her teeth as she walked barefoot, the chains around her ankles dragging along behind her. She had been captured, and her home, where she'd lived for years with her family and the few humans that survived, had been raided and burnt to ashes. Her eyes pricked with tears as she remembered how her parents had been brutally dismembered two days ago. She gnashed her teeth as she walked on. She had been walking to Heaven knows where for days now without any food or water. She had no clue why the rogue pack leader had ordered them not to kill her. Although she was frightened and exhausted from the events that had unfolded two days ago, her stubborn survival instinct led her on. "Hahaha, is our pretty face tired?" one of the werewolves asked, and the others burst out laughing. Aria spat out, "That's not funny." The moment she finished speaking, a slap landed across her cheek from a female werewolf. "Mind how you talk to us," she said. Aria looked at the werewolf as tears stung her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. "What's going on here?" the rogue pack leader asked as he approached them. "She was insulting our men, Radro. She's a feisty one, and I think you need to teach her some lessons," the female werewolf replied with a smug smile on her face. Aria scoffed. "Don't make your jealousy too obvious. It's making me gag." The female werewolf grunted as she bared her fangs and claws, ready to attack. "Fraelta, that's enough!" "No, Radro. You don't expect me to watch her insult me. I need to teach her some lessons." "It's fine. I'll handle it." "You better do." She stormed away from them. "You're lucky I arrived right on time. If not, you'd be pretty much dead by now," he said as he stroked Aria's face and inhaled her scent. What a pervert. Aria gasped when his hand found its way into her clothes and he pulled her close to himself. What the hell? What should she do? Her hands and feet were shackled. As she was contemplating what to do to get rid of this pervert, unexpected noises were heard around them. They were surrounded by another rogue pack. They were here to loot whatever Radro and his pack had. Radro immediately took his hands off Aria and took off to confront them head-on. "Everyone, now!" Aria watched as they all turned into their beastly forms. It was terrifying. Howls and cries filled the air as they tore through each other. Aria gently huddled up under a car. As she watched, she noticed a bundle of keys on the ground. Just perfect. She used a stick to reach for them since they were too far away from her. Then she tried each of the keys on the chain. Luckily, it clicked on the third try. After freeing herself from the chains, Aria looked around to see if anyone would notice her, but after confirming that she wouldn't be noticed, she slipped away. She ran through the thick forest, which was eerily quiet, with the faint sound of howls and stomping from the fighting werewolves miles away, signalling that there was life. She ran and ran and lost count of how many minutes she had been running. Exhausted, she sat under a thick, moss-covered tree and tried to catch her breath. She was hungry, thirsty, and tired, but she would rather continue running than wait there and be captured by Radro and his men. With that thought, she stood up and continued running. She stopped in front of a tree with fruits on it. It looked edible. Hungry, she left caution to the wind and plucked one. "Hmm, it's yummy." She had never seen a fruit like this before in her whole life. She ate until she was satisfied and then picked a few, which she tied into her scarf and slung over her back like a backpack. She continued walking through the dark, thick, foggy forest and then lay to rest under a tree when she got tired. She spent several days in the forest, surviving alone. She drank from streams and ate whatever fruit she could find from the trees. She was all alone on this massive land of eerie quiet, darkness, and dampness. At night, she had terrifying nightmares of her parents' deaths and the total annihilation of their race. She was the last human alive, but nevertheless, she was determined to survive, come what may. One morning, she was walking through the forest when she suddenly felt faint. She thought she was sick. As she was thinking of what to do, she heard a faint sound. It was the only sound of a living thing she had heard in days. She walked in the direction of the sound. Two guards were talking and laughing among themselves. She was glad. She thought they were humans. They looked ordinary; there were no noticeable fangs or claws on them. They were laughing out loud and seemed carefree. While she watched, she noticed the massive stone structure. She had no idea what it meant. She walked out from the forest and approached them. They immediately noticed her and stopped talking. As Aria opened her mouth to talk to them, everything went dark. Meanwhile, in a large office in Valthera, Kael felt his wolf shift uncomfortably inside him. His brows furrowed as a subtle, unfamiliar scent suddenly filled his nostrils. It was faint, almost impossible to detect, yet there was something strangely captivating about it. Kael took another breath, trying to identify the unfamiliar scent, but he couldn't place it. Little did he know, the person he had spent years desperately searching for had just stepped into his world.Aria had never felt so lonely in her entire life as she did in Valthera. She was surrounded by people, but she knew she wasn't one of them.Valthera was beautiful. As she walked through the pack, she realized that. The pack sat between towering mountains and was surrounded by thick forests that stretched endlessly. Beautiful houses stood among large trees, smoke rising from chimneys as families moved through their daily routines.Everywhere she turned, there were werewolves. Some were in groups, laughing together and discussing things, while others tended to their children, and the rest were working in the fields. They were happy. She felt envious as she watched the happy expressions on their faces. It was something she hadn't experienced for some days. She then noticed the change in their expressions as she walked past them. Eyes followed her, and they all stared openly at her.She heard whispers as she walked by."She doesn't have a scent.""Is she an omega?""Seems like she's curse
Aria sat on her bed, staring lost in thought. The words Kael had said in the library continued resonating in her ears."Maelva knows you survived, and he is on the search for you."Why do they want to kill me? How did they find out I am alive? Was it Radro and his pack?I'm not safe anymore here. I don't even know who to trust anymore. What do I do?Aria thought to herself.A soft knock suddenly sounded on the door.Aria's head snapped toward it. Her heart began pounding against her ribcage as fear crept through her.“Come in.”Melina walked toward her and sat down beside her.“Kael has told you about it, right?”Aria nodded.“This was what I was trying to explain to you before. You're not safe outside of Valthera, Aria. For now, you have to remain with us until we're sure they're off your trail. I hope you understand?”“Yes, I do. I'm just scared. Why are they looking for me? Is it because I'm human? How am I a threat to them? I don't have any supernatural powers. I don't even have a
Aria followed the librarian towards one of the sections of the library. The section contained ancient records. Their covers were worn, their pages yellowed with age, and some were covered in layers of dust. The librarian stopped in front of a large book and removed it from the shelf. “This is the oldest record we have concerning the Great War.” Aria looked at the huge book in front of her. It would take days for her to go through the book. “Thank you so much.” “You're welcome. You cannot take it out of the library, though. You'll need the Alpha's permission before you can take it out.” “Why's that? Luna Melina allowed me to read them.” “Yes, I know that, but that's the instruction put in place years ago, and we can't disobey it.” The librarian then reached for a thick brown book and pulled it from the shelf. Dust immediately filled the air as she dusted it. Aria coughed. “This one contains records from the final years of the Great War.” Aria sat down and took the book.
Aria continued staring in the direction Kael had disappeared as she walked with Luna Melina toward her room. “So you mean he's the Alpha of this pack?” “Yes. Kael is the Alpha of Valthera.” Aria's eyes widened. “I didn't know. I just screamed at the Alpha of your pack. I'm sorry for that.” “It's fine, Aria.” “I heard growls and wanted to know what was going on. Then I stumbled upon that horrifying scene.” She shuddered slightly. “He's not angry at me, right?” “He isn't.” Melina smiled. “But why did you leave your room? You're supposed to be resting.” “I was tired of staying cooped up in one room. I wanted to take a look around and see my surroundings.” Aria paused. “I wanted to talk to you about something, though.” “Okay. What's it?” Luna melina asked. “It's about the Great War that happened centuries ago.” Melina's expression became more serious. “What do you know about it?” “From what I remember from history classes, Aelra was angry at the human race. It all starte
A knock sounded on the door. “Who’s there?” Kael asked from inside the room. “It’s Cassian, Your Highness.” “Come in.” The door opened, and Cassian stepped inside. He closed it behind him before walking over to the seating area and taking a chair opposite Kael. “There’s something you should know,” Cassian said. Kael looked up from the document in his hands. “A girl was spotted at the border yesterday. She seemed completely helpless. The Luna is aware of her, and she’s currently under her care.” Kael raised an eyebrow. “Who is she? A rogue?” “No, Your Highness.” Cassian shook his head. “She had no scent. Not of a werewolf, vampire, witch, or any other supernatural.” Kael’s expression changed slightly. “No scent?” “None.” Cassian paused. “It almost seemed as though she was human.” “Human?” For the first time, Kael looked genuinely interested. “That’s... interesting.” “It is.” Kael leaned back in his chair. “What did the pack doctor say?” “
The two sentinels guarding the pack's border were shocked when they saw Aria lying unconscious on the ground. They looked at each other. One of them immediately reached for the communication device attached to his belt and sent a message to the beta of the pack. "Beta, we have a problem. There's a collapsed girl outside the pack's border. She fainted just as she opened her mouth to speak. What are your orders?" "Is she armed? Does she have a scent? Witch? Vampire?" The other sentinel walked over to Aria and carefully checked her. He shook his head. "No, Beta. She doesn't have any scent. It's almost as if she's... human." There was silence on the other end of the communication device. "Hmm. Human. That's quite interesting. Bring her to the pack's hospital. I'm there." The beta ended the call. The two sentinels looked at each other before carefully lifting Aria from the ground. One of them motioned to the other sentinels inside the pack to prepare a car. Within minutes, they
