LOGINCHAPTER FOUR
SEBASTIAN
“Idiot!” I cursed at James, my temper rising. How could he make such a low level mistake?
James frowned, and I could see indignation on his face, but then, he quickly swallowed down whatever dissatisfactions he might have, replacing it with a submissive look.
"I am sorry boss, Damien was way faster than us this time, and he knew the time we were going to arrive," James gave me a bogus explanation.
I raised an eyebrow suspiciously, as I questioned James with just my gaze.
He shifted uncomfortably on one foot, and I could tell that he was trying to hide something. I sneered....he might be delusional if he thought that he could play me like this.
"Damien somehow found out about the time the goods were supposed to arrive? I thought that only the men on your team knew that information?" I asked James.
He looked confused at first, but then, a panicked look quickly spread across his face.
Falling to his knees, he made sure to keep his head down.
I was towering above him, looking at him from above. James was an ant that I could crush beneath my foot at any time that I wanted, and so I had no idea why he insisted on playing tricks with me.
"I..... I am sorry boss! I think there's a spy in the team!" He blurted out.
"A spy?" I repeated, a sarcastic smile on my face.
Crouching down, I grabbed James by the collar and forced him to look into my face.
He was trembling now, and it irritated me to no end. How this man had stood by my father's side for the longest time was a mystery to me.
"You should know well by now, James, I don't use anyone that I can't trust. How come there is a spy in your team?" I questioned him slowly.
"I ...we recruited some guys. After the last mission, some of our guys died when we faced off with the police. We had to recruit quickly and I didn't have the time to vet each and every one of them, " James' voice was shaking as he gave me this explanation.
Raising my foot, I kicked him hard in the chest, and his body was flung against the wall. He fell to the ground with a thud, and James spat out a mouthful of blood.
He glanced at me with resentment, but I just stared back like I could not sense it.
My gaze was cold, and it took a lot of self control to hold back from tearing this man apart.
Not only was he a big mouthed idiot talking about Sophia when he didn't have to, he also messed up such a simple mission!
I wondered which one I was more upset about, the mission, or Sophia.
I removed the top buttons of my shirt as I breathed heavily. Damn it, the thoughts of that woman were creeping into my head again!
"Boss I....this is my fault. I'll make sure to fix it! I'll find the spy and then....."
"Of course, you should find the spy, he was on your team. If he escapes so quickly, don't you think it'd be a bit too suspicious?" I questioned James, my lips curling up in a sarcastic grin as the words left my mouth.
Realization dawned on him, and he scrambled to get on his feet, panicking as he did so.
"No, boss, I would never betray you! You know that!" He insisted.
"Of course, you don't have the guts to!" I retorted.
The punishment for whoever dared to betray me was something that James could not afford to risk!
He swallowed hard, as a fierce look appeared on his face.
"I'll find out who did this, I'll make them pay, and I'll find a way to get back the goods...."
"Forget it, I won't be needing you to transport the goods anymore. Since Marco has opened up the ports to us, things would be much easier now. Dante will be in charge of transporting the goods from now on, so make sure you find that spy as soon as possible," I didn't complete the sentence, but James understood it regardless.
He nodded his head, a helpless look on his face.
"Are you going to abandon me now, boss?" He asked, a bitter look on his face .
A long pause settled between us as I stared at his face for a long time.
"Abandon you? Were you ever useful to me?" I asked, without much emotion.
James froze, as he seemed to be processing what I said.
He seemed to have complaints, but I didn't care for that.
"James, you're already what, 40 now? I think it's time you retire, you need to spend more time with your son," my words were plain, but firm, and it was an order James could not ignore.
He looked appalled, and even hurt by my order, but I didn't budge at all.
His resentful gaze annoyed me, and in my head, I was already planning his retirement.
"Don't worry, since you served my father well, I won't hold back on your retirement benefits. As soon as I gain full control of the ports, you should retire," I finally revealed a humorless smile to him, and James started to panic.
"Boss I..."
He was pleading his case when I heard someone knock on the office door.
"Boss, it's me."
A relaxed look appeared on my face when I heard the knock and I glanced at James for the last time.
"You can leave now," I said coldly.
......
"So Damien has the goods?" Dante asked me, a perturbed look on his face .
"We went through so much to get them here. With the police on our case, we're basically wanted in other countries. How could James be so...."
Dante began to complain bitterly, but I raised up a hand to stop him.
"Don't worry, I have a plan to get those goods back," I assured Dante, with a calm smile dancing on my lips.
He stared at me, a questioning look in his eyes.
"What are you planning on doing boss?" He asked me.
"Give Cynthia a call, it's time she put her skills to good use," I ordered.
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND THIRTY LIRAA smile graced my face as I steadily approached Maya. I was not surprised that she was the one meeting with me, in fact, I was looking forward to meeting Maya. After all, my so called friend had managed to make a name for herself in the design world these past five years. Although she was fast declining, she had made use of my name enough, and I was ready to take everything back! After five years, both my daughter and I had survived, and now, everyone who had ever hurt and used me was going to pay! "Hello, are you Maya? I am Fiona," I stretched out a hand to Maya, a perfect smile on my face. Maya raised her head to look at me, and her mouth fell wide open when she saw my face. She hurried up from the chair she was sitting on, and instead of taking my hand, she stared at my face with her mouth wide open. Touching my face gently, I pretended as if I didn't know why she was staring at me so openly. "Is there something on my face?" I asked, as I to
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE MAYAThese designs....they were like Lita's designs that I had seen in the past. Could it be that ...my fingers were shaking now, and my heart was pounding fast. They weren't many of Lira's designs produced, since she only worked for Damien's company for a short period of time before she resigned. However, she was once my friend, and she had been interested in designs since we were in college. I had seen a lot of the designs that she made for fun, and even though they were not identical to the designs I was currently looking at, there was just something about them that seemed so damn familiar! Could it be that Lira was ...alive? My heart skipped a beat at this thought. For the past five years, I never worried about Lira because I was convinced she was dead, but what if that was not the case? What it she really survived, somehow? After all, a body was never found...."What do you think, director Maya? Do you think that we should proceed with this
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT MAYA"Good morning Maya!""Good morning director" So many people greeted me as I made my way into the company. A smile rested on my face, taking it all of their greetings and flattering words. No matter how long I sat on the position of director of design, and no matter how long it had been since I gained my new status, I could never get tired of people being so polite and flattering to me. In the past, I used to be the one that people looked down on , no one dared to take me seriously at all In fact, I was trampled upon and mocked, but that had since changed. It all began five years ago, when that woman had come to me and told me to stop Damien from going to look for Lira no matter what. At first, I had no idea what was going on. But deep down, I wanted all of the things that Lira had. A man who loved her, a respectable identity, a great career, I was greedy for those things, and so I took the gamble five years ago. So, I faked an accident. W
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVENSEBASTIAN "We have news of Sophia again. It seemed that she had offended some powerful people in Italy and she had to lay low for the past two years. She has been living in a small Europe country and she finally moved to Paris a few days ago. It seems that the people she offended no longer care about her and Sophia is back to doing whatever she wants," Dante replied shortly. "Ha," a short laugh escaped my lips when I heard this. "It seems that Sophia is having the time of her life," I noted, as my lips curled up in a sarcastic smirk. "In the past five years, she has not suffered the consequences of her actions at all. She continued to live ostentatiously, causing trouble whenever she wants and having Marco clean up after her. Meanwhile, Lira is still missing and we haven't had any news of her till now. Don't you think it's a bit unfair?" I asked Dante. Dante did not show any emotions on his face, and I actually had no idea what he was thinking. Fo
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX LIRA"She would be ashamed to admit that you're her granddaughter!" Those words hit me like a sledge hammer, and I couldn't help but feel like someone was digging out my chest. "What do you know?!"I screamed back at the man, my eyes shifty as I tried to focus on him. Although my eyesight was still blurry, if I tried hard enough, I was able to make out the image of the person who was in front of me "You know nothing about me, you know nothing about the things that I've been through. How dare you say that my mother would be ashamed of me?" I snapped at him. He was acting as if he knew everything, did he really think that I would acknowledge him and let him speak to me however he wanted just because he claimed he was my grandfather? What the heck! "Heh, I admit that I don't know you. I never got the chance to know you and that's all my fault. However, I know your mother well. And I know that Leona would never have thrown her life away like this all
CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE LIRAI was surrounded by endless bodies of water...no matter how hard I tried to swim, it was all impossible. I couldn't fight against the raging waves, and it seemed as if the water was going to tear me apart. So many memories flashed in my mind, and I kept seeing my grandmother's sad face as she took her last breath. I couldn't even cry, I just felt as if the water was going to cover me and suffocate me at some point. Soon, I realised that I was no longer in the water. Somehow, I had managed to get out. Instead, I was now walking down a hallway, with the walls painted white. There was a white door in front of me, and I found myself longing for the door I reached out my hand to open it once I was close enough, but my grandmother appeared in front of me just then. "Grandmother..." I called out to her, feeling choked up. "Lira...you've grown up to become so beautiful," my grandmother said to me, a smile on her old and wrinkled face Although s
CHAPTER THIRTY-THREEDAMIEN "Damien...it's been long since you came here, have you already replaced me?" A skimpily dressed woman who was leaning in way too close to me spoke in a singy song voice. Her boobs that seemed too heavy for her tiny frame was pressing on to me, however, I didn't push he
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWOLIRAHe raised his glass at me, taking a sip of it as he smiled.A frown settled on my face as I watched him closely. His entire being exuded danger, like he was the kind that smiled while calculating where to strike. I didn't feel comfortable standing here with him, and my fir
CHAPTER NINETEEN LIRA "Mr. Cross, I don't think this has anything to do with you, right? I don't think you should be butting into this!" Cynthia's snarl interrupted my thoughts. Damien smirked at her, his expression dismissive as he glared at Cynthia. It was obvious that he did not take her s
CHAPTER TWENTY LIRAOur hands were linked together as we walked around the large hall. Time seemed to stop every now and then, as everyone's attention was focused on us. A few armed men stood on alert, watching everything going on with cold menacing gazes, and my heart jumped. I inched closer t
