Natalie’s POV

My door flew open, and Lucien just walks in, I panicked then threw the locket in my drawer before he could see it, there will be too many questions I wouldn’t have the answer to.

“Don’t you ever know how to knock, what if… oh yes you have… but still do me a favor and knock next time”

“I would have but I want to ask you for a favor…”

“What is it this time, let me guess… another gala… another torture?... nooo I know maybe this time you want me to jump off a roof for you… quick answer… NO!”

“Is that how you see me? Am I that bad to you?”

“No that’s where you got it all wrong, you’re way worse, I know you’re holding back something” I said as I turned to face him while he still stood at my door frame

“The favor isn’t about me…”

“Wow… could you surprise me even more, who’s it about then?”

“Remember Xavier?”

“Yeah, what about him?” I sighed

“The favor I’m asking is for him…”

“And it is about what?” he bit his lip before finally speaking up

“He has never had a girlfriend…” he paused again

“Would you quit the suspense and tell me what this is about?”

“He begged me to let you have a fake date with him to make the girl he wants jealous at the ca…”

“Would you shut the fuck up, you had no right to agree to whatever nonsense you friend asked”

“He’s been my friend for the longest of time, just this once, just today and he’ll be out of your hair.”

“I don’t give a shit if it’s a day or two, I’m not playing your little games, now get the fuck out of my room… lock the door on your way out”

“Natty if you help him, I’ll get you whatever it is you want.”

“Is that a blackmail or are you trying to buy me?”

“Call it whatever you wish” He shrugged as he walked closer to me with his hands in his pocket, always so arrogant…

“Not gonna work… save yourself the stress and leave”

“Ok… what do you want?”

“What do I want?”

“Yes, what do you want, I mean it”

“Trusting you, is like trusting the devil himself”

“Try me…”

“You’re asking for a lot from me Lucien…”

“I know… that’s why I said you could ask for anything you want” In as much as I hate to admit, his offer does sound tempting but… how do I know he can be trusted

“Anything?”

“Yes anything…I’ll even let you ask me for anything for a week”

“A week?... hold on… what does it matter to you if Xavier and I don’t go on this fake date?”

“He’s just a good friend to me and I don’t want to disappoint him”

“And how am I stuck in the middle of all of this?”

“I’m sorry but I didn’t know who else to ask”

“Hmm…” I paused to check for any hint of lies in his voice then continued “A week, right?”

“Yes, a week, I always keep to my word”

“Ok, brother… Lucien, when is this fake date supposed to happen?”

“Less than an hour…”

“So how am I supposed to know the girl I’m meant to get her attention?”

“I don’t know, he hasn’t showed me the girl yet, but the coffee shop isn’t too far away”

“What if he tries something funny?”

“Don’t worry I won’t be too far away from the coffee shop, and besides… Xavier is a good guy.”

“Do you think you’re talking to a 12-year-old, he doesn’t look trustworthy to me, from the first day I saw him, he screamed trouble, but for the sake of your offer I’d accept to go with him… if anything bad happens… you’ll be the one to blame”

“Nothing bad would happen, I give you my word for it”

“And your word isn’t just enough for me… but your one week offer seemed pretty good”

“Get dressed, he’ll soon be here”

“Do I need to remind you of something Mr.?”

“What?”

“You gonna stand there while I dress up?” I asked with wide eyes

“Sorry, I’ll stand outside” he shrugged before leaving the room, I dressed in my simple mini green dress, and put on the best my heels and jewelry… I took a quick peek at the mirror before I heard the honk of Xavier’s car from downstairs. I swung the door open and Lucien was still standing outside my room, the minute he set his eyes on me I could tell his heart stopped because he got so nervous and almost tripped on his heel…

“I thought you didn’t want to go out with Xavier?”

“Did you hit your head somewhere?”

“No…”

“Good, I thought you did, because you used a whole 30 minutes to beg me to go out with your friend, now, you’re asking me this?”

“Yes, I wanted you to go with him… but must you dress like that?”

“It’s a date not a funeral, and if I need this little act to look believable, I have to look the part too…”

“But…”

“But what Lucien, I could just… back away from it you know… I have nothing to lose whereas you have plenty”

“Ok fine…” I said reluctantly before leaving the way for me to walk past

“Thank you.”

“He’s arrived…”

“I know. I’m not deaf. I heard the car horn” He just gazed at me once then looked the other way, extended his hand, I put my hand in his then he walked me downstairs to me Xavier… Last time I saw him he looked less annoying but somehow, he seemed to just double the rate at which he annoyed me by just been in the room as me

“Ma lady…” Xavier grinned widely bringing his hand forward, acting all gentle, I knew it was all just a charade… two can play this game… keep calm Natalie, I murmured to myself before taking his hand keeping a fake smile on

“Nothing should go wrong Xavier” Lucien said giving him a deadly glare before letting go of my other hand. Xavier escorted me to the passenger seat and he took me to the coffee shop, we sat at a table outside the coffee shop, I kept a close watch around for the so called mystery girl, but I didn’t see anyone looking jealous, I wanted to ask Xavier about it, but he was going on and on about his father’s business, I swear I didn’t even hear up to two sentences that came out of his mouth…

“Are you listening to me Natalie?”

“Yeah” I said on instincts as I almost choked on my drink

“Ok ma lady”

“Uhmm Xavier?”

“What’s wrong?”

“We’ve been sitting here for close to an hour now and I still don’t see any girl, why did you call me here Xavier?” I asked him with my brows furrowed, he just shot me bac with a confused look the adjusted his seat backward and stood up…

“Let’s go somewhere else…”

“You haven’t answered my question” He rushed back to his car, opened the car door signaling me to get in, I spotted Lucien from a distance and his brows furrowed, I didn’t like where this was heading but it seemed to make him… jealous…interesting

Playing the devil’s game to see if lucifer himself was jealous… Natalie you’re playing a very dangerous game here, I snapped at myself… I walked into the car while Xavier practically ran to the driver’s seat, he drove us to a bar and the whole ride there, I spotted Lucien’s car from the rear-view mirror

The words kept repeating in my head as ‎I sat on the edge of the bed with the blindfold still covering my eyes, unable to see anything around me. I hated that more than I could explain. Natalie's POV"Our wedding love..." He said it with such pride and satisfaction, that my stomach lurched violently...I stared at the shadow of him, at the silhouette that had haunted my waking hours for days now—how many days, I couldn't even say anymore. Time had lost its meaning in this gilded cage..."No way," I spat, my voice cracking but defiant... "I'm not going to marry any stranger. I won't marry you."He laughed then, a sound that started low in his chest and rolled out like thunder before a storm, warm and terrible all at once. "Don't worry," he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice even though I couldn't see his face... "Before a week you'll get to know me. Intimately."The intimacy of his tone, the way he said it like a promise rather than a threat, ignited something feral inside me. Without thinking, without planning, I threw my body sideways with every ounce of strength I had left, my shoulder slamming into the food tray he'd brought in earlier, the glass of wa
