DELILAH

“No! That’s not what I mean! That’s what really happened. I’m telling you the truth!”

He just shook his head, and there was something in his face....sadness, maybe, or disappointment.

“I really expected a more believable story than that,” he said quietly. “The blackwater's have never touched you, and then yesterday, suddenly, they just… combined, plotted together to beat you up?”

He shook his head again, this time harder.

“Delilah, do you even hear yourself?”

The words hit me like a slap, so hard that I had to repeat what I’d said in my head, just to make sure I hadn’t gone crazy.

“It happened!” I screamed, sitting up despite the pain.

“It didn’t happen.” His voice was flat, final, like a gavel coming down hard. “And now I’m sure what Elena said is true. Now I’m sure you’re not someone to be sympathized with. When I promised to make your life hell....” Damien said, his voice quiet but sharp as a blade, “I meant it. But then I saw what happened to you at school, and for a momen

  • THE NIGHT HE WANTED ME    Don't Believe Me

DELILAHI just shook my head, feeling the weight of pain in every part of me. I was in bed. It was the middle of the night. And here he was, accusing me of things I hadn’t done, twisting everything.“I don’t know what you heard, and I didn't tell Elena..... you know what? just get out of my bedroom, Damien.” My voice was small, trembling, but I tried to keep it steady. He didn’t say anything. He just stood there, his dark glare fixed on me.“Get out of my bedroom, Damien,” I repeated, louder this time, my hands clutching the sheets for strength.“You’re going to pay,” he said, voice low and threatening. “I’m going to find a way for you to pay for trying to ruin me for whatever reason you have, Delilah.... I just want to remind you that you wanted to sleep with me. You wanted me," he says with a cruel smirk,"I didn’t force you. And now you can’t deal with the consequences, with the fact that I don’t want you, that I don’t love you, and that I love Elena. So you’re going to keep makin

  • THE NIGHT HE WANTED ME    No Good

DELILAH“Do you like it?” Mother asked Elena. She sat down, eyes shining, and nodded. “Yes, Mom, I really, really like it,” she said, her hand resting on the table.“I’m so happy you like it. I’ve also added initials inside here,” my mother said, turning the bracelet slightly so Elena could see.“Oh, you didn’t have to, Mom,” Elena murmured.“Anything for my kids,” Mom replied with a soft smile. "I also brought Delilah the same identical bracelets,” my mother announced.I saw the moment it hit Elena. Her eyes snapped toward me, sharp and accusing.“Oh,” she said, the single syllable almost a hiss.“Delilah, show her the bracelet,” my mother said.I didn’t want to, but I knew I had to. I pulled my sleeves back, revealing the bracelet on my wrist, and held my arm out. Elena looked at it, and I couldn’t tell if her expression was jealousy, disgust, or something else entirely. Her face twisted for a moment, and I felt a shiver run through me.Mom must have seen it too, because she leaned

  • THE NIGHT HE WANTED ME    It's Beautiful

DELILAHMy mother looked happy, excited, even like she wasn’t the same woman from yesterday. Oh, the irony. I wasn’t the same girl from yesterday either, not after the past few weeks, not since that night.I nodded at her and said, “That’s good news."" Yes, it's the best. Anyway, I’m going into my bedroom to take a shower and change. Come down for dinner later. It's been a long time since we had dinner together.”“Okay,” I replied.“Okay, good. Um, have you taken the medicine?”“Yes.”“Are you feeling any better?”I went silent for a moment, then shrugged. “I guess.”“Okay, good, fantastic. See you downstairs,” she said, and she left, her steps echoing as she walked toward the door.I could have nearly laughed or cried, somewhere in the middle of those two emotions. I put my hand to my face, and my eyes fell on that sparkling bracelet. And in that moment, it felt like she had shackled me, bolted me in place. She had kind of done that before, but this… this felt different. This felt l

  • THE NIGHT HE WANTED ME    Dad Is Coming

DELILAHAnd now here I was, staring at my mother’s outstretched hand and the box she was holding, not sure if this was a gift or some new punishment in disguise.“Go on,” she coaxed softly.“Take it,” she said, pushing the little box so close to me it almost pressed against my chest.I had no choice. With trembling hands, I took it.Then my mom sat down next to me on the bed, facing me like she had all the time in the world. I didn’t know what to do, so I just sat there, holding the box, my fingers tight around the edges.“What are you waiting for?” she said, her voice light but sharp. “Open it.”I took a deep breath, my throat dry, my stomach twisting as I wondered what kind of torture device she had put in there for me.When I finally opened the box, my breath caught. Inside was a bracelet.....diamonds, everywhere. For a moment, I just stared at it, shocked. Why would she bring this?Did she buy Elena this gift, and now she wanted to throw this in my face?Or was this her way of say

  • THE NIGHT HE WANTED ME    Scared

DELILAHBut that’s not what my mother does. She smiles sweetly at me, too sweetly as she pulls me up and helps set me on the bed. My body still aches everywhere, pain radiating through me from everything she and Elena did yesterday. And yet here she is, smiling.....It feels like mind games.Because right now, I feel so confused. I feel like there’s a big bomb coming, and she’s just preparing me for it.When I’m finally settled on the bed, she takes a few steps back, still standing in front of me. And then she does something strange, she straightens herself, pulls her shoulders back, lifts her chin. Her posture is perfect, her expression calm, almost elegant. It’s as if she’s preparing herself for a presentation.“Well,” she begins, her tone light, casual, too casual.“First of all, we are not going to say anything about what happened yesterday. In my defense, I was drunk, and you got on my last nerves.”She pauses, almost like she’s waiting for me to thank her before adding,“But, I f
