A dare

I had built a life for myself in New York, but it wasn’t as good as the life I had with my mates. When it came to my real identity, no one knew, not even those closest to me, and I’m not sure I’ll ever tell them. The only thing I had ever shared was that I once had a boyfriend I loved deeply. They always told me to move on, and I’ve tried, but it doesn’t seem possible. Every time I close my eyes, memories of us flood my mind, and a part of me wishes I hadn’t left that night.

Something strange happened to me recently, and I didn’t know what to make of it. I could feel the mate bond between me and Kael last night, and I can’t explain how that’s even possible since I’ve been so far away, and I’m certain they don’t know my location. I hope it wasn’t just my imagination, but it couldn’t have been, because that bond was real. I could feel it.

“Becky, Becky!” I heard someone call, trying to snap me out of my thoughts by waving a hand in front of my face. When I looked up, it was Abby, the girl I live with, along with Blake and Elena, who I often refer to as Lily.

“Yes? What happened?” I asked, staring at her face, which now had makeup on it.

“Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten we’re going out tonight!” Abby said, and my heart sank. I had completely forgotten about that. I wasn’t used to those kinds of things.

“Nope, I didn’t,” I replied with a nervous laugh, hoping she wouldn’t notice.

“You’ve been zoning out a lot lately, girl. I’ve told you to move on from that guy, but you never listen,” Abby said, repeating the same thing she always does when I drift off.

“You look ready for tonight,” I commented, taking in her outfit. She wore a black mini skirt that barely covered her butt, paired with a spaghetti-strap crop top that stopped just below her breasts. She completed the look with high heels.

“Yup, I do, and so do the others. Now go get ready, we’re waiting for you,” she said before leaving my room.

I had already showered earlier, so there was no need to do it again. I went straight to my closet to pick something to wear. My eyes landed on the dress Abby had picked out for me, a red backless one that barely covered my butt cheeks. It wasn’t really my style, and I wasn’t comfortable with it at all.

Still, I picked it up and slipped it on. Damn, it was tight, it hugged my curves perfectly.

I applied a bit of makeup, brushed my hair again, then went to the shoe rack. I picked out a pair of red heels that matched the dress and put them on.

Once I was done, I stepped out of my room and saw everyone already gathered in the living room.

“Hey guys,” I announced my arrival, and all heads turned in my direction.

“Damn girl, you look amazing and sexy,” Lily said, and to my surprise, she was wearing the same dress, only hers was a different color and showed off her cleavage.

“You look sexy too,” I said with a small smile. “I’m sure tons of guys are going to eye fuck you tonight.” I whispered the last part, and she blushed instantly.

I walked over to Abby, who looked thrilled that I’d chosen to wear the dress she gave me.

“I see you decided to wear the sexy dress I gave you. I’m proud of you,” she said, giving me a side hug.

“Hey Blake,” I said, waving like I’d just noticed him, though I’d seen him all along.

“Hey Becky,” he replied, waving back.

“You look good,” I said, admiring his outfit. He wore a blue T-shirt paired with black trousers. Simple, but he still looked effortlessly handsome.

“Thank you,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, the way he always did when he was shy. “You look beautiful.” He complicated and I replied with a warm smile.

“Let’s go,” I said, leading the way out. The others followed and we headed to Blake’s car.

Once inside, Blake started the engine and drove out of the compound. The ride was silent, and that silence made my thoughts drift back to Kael’s scent. I was still so confused about it. All I hoped was that maybe this night out would clear my mind.

After a few minutes, we arrived at the club, and the ride was finally over.

As we stepped inside, the smell of alcohol hit me hard. I’d tasted it before, but I still wasn’t used to it.

“Becky, I’m going to get drinks. What do you want?” Li asked.

I hesitated. I wasn’t a big fan of alcohol.

“I’ll have what you’re having,” I said. She smiled, asked the others for their orders, and left.

“Let’s sit over there,” Abby suggested, pointing to a table near the corner, not too crowded but not too isolated either.

Blake and I followed her, and we sat down together.

“Hey, look, there’s Lily,” I said, pointing in her direction.

“She’s looking for us,” Abby said.

“Let’s wave so she can see us,” I suggested, and we both stood up, waving until Lily spotted us.

She made her way over with a tray full of drinks and tumblers.

“Damn girl, you didn’t have to buy this much,” I said as she set them down.

“We’re all leaving here drunk, well, except Blake since he’s driving,” she said with a grin, sitting down beside us.

“Let’s play truth or dare,” Lily suggested.

“Yeah, that sounds fun, and if you can’t do something, you take a full glass,” Abby added.

Lily pulled something from her bag, it was the spinner we usually used for the game. I realized then that she’d come prepared. She placed it on the table and gave it a spin and it stopped on me.

“Truth or dare?” Lily asked.

Definitely dare. I didn’t want her asking me anything personal.

“Dare,” I replied.

“I dare you to give Blake a lap dance,” she said with a mischievous grin.

My eyes widened, and I saw the same shocked look on Blake’s face, while Abby and Lily smirked at each other.

I froze, not saying a word or moving an inch.

“Well,” Lily asked, “are you going to do it or not?”
