The Marian he had dumped had not been the vibrant she-wolf he had fallen for. She had not been the lively, bold, outspoken girl he had taken into his heart, and into his bed.

After the battle, she had lost her shine, her light. She became dull in her manner, in her speech. They had had to sneak around to meet.

He had even let other she-wolves touch him before going to see her, on purpose. And she never said anything, never called him out.

He continued making promises to her even as he purposefully kept away, and she had not challenged him in any way.

His real, original Marian would never have let anything like that slide.

She had changed, and he had lost interest.

But, upon her return, right from their first exchange, he had finally seen the girl he had known for almost ten years, and his pulse had quickened.

His heart had beat like it used to when they had first kicked things off.

His woman.

Corien’s eyes narrowed.“Your daughter is precious to you. I acknowledge that. And she is vital to my people. I will not let her die for the Alpha King’s failure of a descendant.”“I will treat her as well as she desires. She can even bring the wolf you speak of, should he wake. If his father agrees, I will not prevent it,” Misha stated flatly.“And if we want you to come here? Would your father not prevent it?” Corien tossed back, his green eyes boring into Misha’s blue ones.Misha laughed lightly. “I am the Successor! The one you speak of is nothing to Lightmoon!” he declared casually.“He is everything to Lightmoon,” Marian whispered. Both males turned to her.“Then I will join Lightmoon to Bloodrayne,” Misha stated gently, his eyes on Marian.“Impossible!” Corien snapped.“Why, Father, why is it impossible?&rdq

“Marian!” Corien stressed.“He will not! Even if he doesn’t know what has been going on, one look at you and he will refuse! And even if he agrees, what will happen to you? You could die!” Marian shot back.“Marian, for goddess’s sake!” Corien croaked. He would have shouted, but he had no strength. It was the edge of his power, in his current state, to keep the dorm soundproofed, keeping all unwanted ears out.“No! I won’t lose you! I can’t lose you! No!” Marian yelled.Corien rubbed his palm over his face.He looked away from Marian.“I can do it,” a silky voice flowed into the room. Both Marian and Corien’s necks snapped toward the bungalow’s front door.“I am Bloodrayne, we can do anything,” Misha commented smoothly as he sauntered into the room.“We haven’t been formally introduced. I am Misha Draki

“Leave us!” Corien announced. The omegas, who had grown to almost ten in number, scurried out of the bungalow.Corien cloaked the dorm.“Dax stayed with me after each operation, day and night, for two days, to heal me. Every time. That healing…is…,” Corien’s face paled, and Marian would have passed out if not for her sister and the food she had just eaten.“Minnie,” Corien whispered, “I need you to hear me,” he croaked, “just hear me, please,” he whispered hoarsely.Marian knelt at her father’s knee, grabbing his hand in both of hers. Her father’s hand was cold, he was pale, his lips had gone dry.It was like he was shrinking, disappearing, right before her eyes.“I'm here, Father, I’m listening,” Marian said reassuringly, her voice low, trembling slightly, but firm and clear.“Oh goddess!” Corien dro

Misha was still shirtless under his vest. A thin film of sweat covered him as Marian put pressure on his neck and pulsing member.“If I had met you first, Misha,” Marian breathed against his ear as they both gasped for air, “If I had met you first…”With that, Marian ran.She ran until she got back to her dorm. She did not need to stay out of the way now.The Alpha King had seen her.Everything was balls up.She smashed every item in the sitting area and the kitchen. Screaming at the top of her lungs as she cloaked herself. No one could hear her.No one outside the dorm.As she broke the last item and fell to her knees, a soft sound disturbed her.She glanced up to find her father, a very tired version of him, gazing down at her.She had forgotten. He was supposed to move to her dorm. She had forgotten everything. Now, as she stared up at him, she forgot a

Tobias paused, an inscrutable expression on his face. Then, his brow relaxed.“Take my Seer, his people will bring whatever is needed. I want nothing from you. If I see you again, Father, one of us will surely die,” he declared flatly, calmly, his volume loud enough for all, including his hidden forces, to hear. With that, Tobias spun around and he and his people melted into the night.Jorak stood alone in the clearing, trembling, as he watched his Alpha leave.King Asher smiled down at him.“Come, Jorak! You have work to do! And I wish to hear more of your father. Talk with me as we head back,” the King said pleasantly, placing a hand on Jorak’s trembling shoulder. In seconds, the shifter calmed. He gazed up at the King wide-eyed.“What? Surely you of all people know that such is the least of my capabilities,” the King droned.“Tha..thank you, King Alpha,” Jorak brea

“We need the blood of a fire wolf to complete the potion,” Jorak rasped.Silence.“How long will it take to make it?” a small voice inquired breathily.Jorak’s head bowed. He remained facing Alpha Tobias.“Two nights. We have already started it. So, this night and tomorrow night. It will be ready.”“How much blood is required?” the same voice asked again.Jorak turned on his knees, facing the source of the questions.“A very small amount, ancient one, very small indeed,” he replied nervouslyMarian nodded at him, her face pale.Somehow, she understood. Even before he said it.“From…from the heart, ancient one,” Jorak stammered in conclusion.Marian smiled. It was the saddest smile in the world.Marian would have laughed, but she could not even stand.Misha stroked her back. She gazed up at him as he sta
