CATALINA

In the faint light of morning pouring through our tent, I saw Abby's pale face as soon as I zipped open the entrance. Her usual calm demeanor was completely gone. I instantly alerted, and Dante stirred beside me, groaning softly at the sudden commotion.

"What is it, Abby?" I asked, my heart beginning to pound nervously.

"It's Chen, ma'am! He's gone!"

My throat tightened with each breath. A sudden, chilly panic shot through me. “What do you mean, gone? Where could he possibly go?” I reached for my clothes as I got out of my sleeping bag. Dante immediately alerted and grabbed for his shirt with wide, worried eyes.

“Ma'am, we have no idea. We've searched everywhere around the camp. I woke up without him beside me, and he wasn't by the fire pit. We've called out, but... nothing.” Abby's voice was tinged with desperation.

My thoughts were racing. With the vast ocean on one side and dense jungle on the other, Chen is nowhere to be found. A rush of fear came over me.

DANTE“You failed to follow her?” I snarled, my voice low, vibrating with controlled fury, as my blood began to boil. “Are you all so blind that you couldn't see her car among the tons of cars in front of you?”My eyes fell on the bodyguards I hired to protect my wife and Chen. Their faces betraying no emotion, they stood still in front of me. They all avoided my fiery gaze, ready to burn them down if one of them dared to give me an unreasonable explanation. The lead bodyguard, Ruiz, stepped forward. “Sir, she exceeded the speed limit on the highway–”“I don't give a f*ck about that goddamn speed limit!” I roared, slamming my fist on the table. They all flinched as their guilty eyes avoided mine. His words fueled my rage. Her disappearance fueled my worries. This whole thing fueled my disappointment in myself.F*ck!“My primary instruction, my ONLY instruction, was to ensure her safety, no matter what.” I pointed a trembling finger at him. “And you thought exceeding the speed limit,

CATALINAThis can't be happening. My hands were trembling as Catherine’s remarks echoed in my head. She got Chen! I should tell the police. I should– But she wanted to meet me alone. If I involve Dante or the police, Chen’s life might be in danger. Yes, she wouldn't think twice about hurting a child. My heart was heavy, with a cold knot of fear and desperation lingering in my chest. I have to go. I have to face her. I have to get Chen back. She might think she can manipulate me and use Chen as a pawn in whatever sick game she was playing. But she's wrong. She had no idea what I'm capable of in protecting the people I love.*****The air hung thick and humid when I arrived at the mansion. I hired a caretaker so it wouldn't look abandoned anymore while I’m living in Dante’s house. As soon as I open the gate, the old oak tree stands tall before me with its branches reaching like skeletal fingers towards the overcast sky. Just then, I spotted someone behind the tree.Catherine. It’s

CATALINAThe airport was a blur of motion– wheeling suitcases, crying toddlers, and announcements echoing through the cavernous terminal. But my focus was not on them, it was on the frantic thrum in my chest thinking of Chen’s safety. My eyes scanned every face. Tiny sneakers, a boy’s blue hoodie, the sound of a humming child—anything. But nothing fits.Dante suddenly grabbed my hand, ignoring the announcements echoing from the speaker. The airport was massive, with people swarming past, families laughing, and bags clattering. But all I could see were faces that weren’t hers or his.We searched until our legs felt like sand and my voice turned hoarse from asking strangers if they’d seen a woman and a small boy. Every security officer, every vendor, and every gate attendant, we showed photos, described her in detail, and begged them to remember. But it was like they’d vanished into the air like ghosts trailing outside our reach.I stood near the terminal exit with Dante and Abby, watc

CATALINAI stormed inside Karen's VIP room at the hospital, with a heart pounding like a drum in my chest. The sun cast long shadows behind me, but my focus was fixed on the woman in front of me.Karen. Her smile faded the moment she saw me and Dante.“You know why I'm here,” I said, my voice steady despite the fire in my veins. She tilted her head, confusion masked her face, feigning innocence. “I haven’t the faintest idea, Catalina. What’s going on?”“Chen was missing."Her brow raised. “Oh? Then what does it have to do with me?”I violently threw the necklace, which fell to the floor near her feet. “How did your necklace end up on the island?”“I haven't seen that necklace for months, Catalina.”“Don’t play dumb with me.”I snapped. She then scoffed. “You’re serious? You think I kidnapped him? That’s insane.”“You said that necklace has evidence of you killing someone!”“What?” Dante was taken aback at my words as he switched his gaze from me to Karen. Her expression froze, with f

CATALINAThe lapping of waves against the shore was the only music that we could hear during this hot evening. Inside, the air was warm and close, carrying the sweet scent of salt and his familiar cologne. His eyes met mine, dark and deep, reflecting the faint glow of the small lantern. A shiver ran down my spine as he leaned in, his breath a gentle caress on my cheek."Beautiful," he whispered as his fingers traced the line of my jaw, and threaded into my hair, pulling me gently closer. "Let me undress you," I whispered back to him with a sly smile. He stands still, letting me take off his clothes. Inch by inch, I bare his broad, flat chest, hard with muscle. I run my fingertips over his chest, down the centerline of his navel. His skin is incredibly smooth, for a man. It's one of those deceptive things about him. How he looks and how he feels never match up. He looks as pale as a vampire, yet he's always warm to the touch. His eyes looked like a mirror, I could see myself inside
