CATALINA

“Are you an employee here?” Was the first thing I asked, ignoring these weird feelings, seeing his unknown presence.

He did not respond. He remained standing, watching me a few feet away.

An intruder.

His unusual attire gives me the vibe of someone who has bad intentions.

I took a glance at my hand as I secretly redialed Dante.

Why is he not answering?

A gasp left my mouth when he took out a silver pipe from behind him and started hitting the wall slowly. A slow and sinister thud against the wall and the pipe echoed in the hallway, frightening my whole system.

This is not good.

“What do you want?” I maintain my composure, not to give him a hint of being frightened.

Still, no words came out of him.

Instead, he steps forward, causing me to step back. My head pounded with tension as he continued to approach me slowly, and I took a step back from him.

I can smell danger from here.

All of a sudden, he charged towards me.

Adrenaline rushed through me, and I ran to the staircase

CATALINAThe air felt too thick, pressing against my skin as if the corners had closed in around me. I forced myself to swallow, though my throat was dry and my tongue was like paper. She tilted her head, watching me, waiting, for fear, for revulsion, for surrender. But I kept my expression still.“That’s what happens when people don’t behave,” she said as her voice dripped with satisfaction. “Sometimes, they just... disappear.”She wanted me to flinch. But the terror she expected, the wide-eyed gasp, and the scramble backward never came. Instead, something colder unfurled in me, something sharp and deliberate. I blinked slowly as I met her gaze with a quiet, unwavering stare. “Is that supposed to impress me?”She faltered. Just slightly. The silence stretched and crackled until the power shift settled into place. I smiled. Not in fear. Not in submission. But because I understood now, I wasn’t the one trembling anymore. The tension in the air was different now. She had expected me

CATALINA“Really?!”My eyes widened, too shocked at the news delivered by Dante.“Yeah, I have already arranged the papers and we will take off in an hour.”“Thank you!”I clapped my hands as excitement filled my heart before I jumped into his arms. He immediately catches me by wrapping his arms around my waist. “Careful! Your shoulder hasn't healed yet, Lina.”As soon as he said that, I felt a slight pain in my shoulder, but it didn't matter to me. I'm just too happy and I still can't believe what my husband just told me. The most amazing news. We're going to take Chen with us! I'm practically bouncing off my feet with excitement. I've been wanting this, but I hesitated because of Dante and the law, and now it's finally happening.I don't know how he did it, but I'm just so incredibly grateful to Dante for reconsidering what I want. He's always been so supportive, but this… this is huge. He knows how much Chen means to me, and he's willing to open our home and our lives to him. I

CATALINA It's Dante.“You okay?” His eyes filled with worry, seeing my pale face. With a smile, I nodded and even offered the snack I was eating. He took a bite while still suspiciously staring at me before closing the door.“Are you sure?” I nodded again and glanced outside the window. “The door was wide open and you were closing your eyes with a pale face.” “You just left the door open and I forgot to close it. I was tired and closed my eyes to sleep,” I explained while tidying the snack in the paper bag, trying to avoid his eyes. But suddenly, his warm hand reached my cheek. “I'm sorry I woke you up.”His voice was soft and sincere. Why is this guy so soft inside but not outside?“It's okay.”Dante’s phone beeped. He read the message first before starting the car. The ride to the airport was filled with silence. I was thinking that maybe I convinced Igor with my words and did not proceed to kill me or maybe he saw Dante and retreated.I slept during the flight back to China and

CATALINA I stepped out into the sunlight and squinted against the unexpected brightness. The hospital doors whispered shut behind me, and I felt the weight of the past two days lying on the bed. I forced myself to breathe despite the pain in my shoulder and focused on the warm air and the scent of the rain that was still on the sidewalk.Dante was beside me, near enough to stabilize me with one arm around my waist. I remember when he first saw me, he drew me into his arms while trembling and silently swearing, and I could feel the tension radiating from him and the barely held rage-filled voice. Now, he was quieter. “You okay?” His voice was rough as if he didn’t quite trust the answer.I nodded without saying a word. The situation drained me. My situation worries me.I admit that I made the situation worse and I don't know how to make things better. If Luhan goes back to his father and uncle, I'm afraid he will accept the punishment for disobeying the organization. But I realized w

CATALINAThe sterile scent of antiseptic clung to the air, pressing against my senses before I could force my eyes open. My limbs feel heavy and dull with the remnants of whatever medication they had pumped into me. A soft beeping pulsed beside me, steady, rhythmic, reminding me I was still here, still breathing.I blinked against the bright fluorescence above, adjusting to the unfamiliar space. White walls. Tiled floors. The unmistakable hush of a hospital. Then…"Dante." His name barely left my lips before his hand was on mine, warm and tightened. Relief flashed in his dark eyes, contrasting with the exhaustion lining his face.“You're awake,” he murmured, his fingers tightening around mine. But something was wrong. Or rather, someone was missing.I swallowed, my throat dry as I forced myself to look past him, beyond the familiar touch of my husband, scanning the room, seeking, searching–“Luhan?” His name wavered in the stillness.Dante’s grip stiffened. Silence stretched between

CATALINAI felt Luhan’s fingers twitch beside mine… a quiet, warning squeeze. Not out of fear. But out of certainty. The silence was sharp. Luhan squared his shoulders, every muscle wound tight, his breath slow and measured. The stranger’s smirk didn’t waver as if he was savoring the moment before whatever was about to unfold.“No clever words this time?” he asked. “No desperate explanations?”Luhan didn’t answer. The air pulsed with tension, each second stretching impossibly long. Then, the stranger moved. Not sudden, not violent, but slow. His gaze flickered between us before settling on Luhan like he already knew the outcome. “You always make this so much harder than it needs to be.”“If you wanted a fight,” he said with a steady voice, “You would’ve started one already.”The stranger chuckled, but there was no warmth in it. “Who says I haven’t?”And before I could even process the meaning behind his words, the shadows behind him shifted.More people.Surrounding us.We both stiff
