JESSIE

The ambience of the restaurant is exactly what would fit my mother’s standard. I stood by the door and scanned the room while the hostess helped me confirm my reservation.

I caught my date checking his reflection in the mirror. I breathed a sigh of relief that he wasn't as old as I had painted him up to be in my head.

“Ms Moore,” he stretched his hand to mine. When he took it, he lifted it to his lips and kissed it on the back gently, but then lingered for a second more than he should.

I pulled my hand from his grip and sat down before he could try to help me. “Mr Henderson, it’s nice to meet you.”

The words felt stuck in my throat, but my mom’s words about getting married to a suitable partner for the business stayed in my mind. I won't get to date this man, but I had to make sure he didn't feel insulted as he left.

“Just call me Henry.”

I nodded gently, licking my lips. He waited for me to give him my first name, but I wasn't comfortable enough to do that.

“You are quite different from what I expected…” he trailed off, his eyes deepening as they raced all over my body.

“How so?’ I did a little shimmy with my shoulders before relaxing to fit the seat.

I could see that this man was in awe of my body, but something about it made me want to puke right there.

“I mean, I will be doing you and your family a huge favour by marrying you.” The expression on his face changed suddenly, and I held my breath. He smirked, thinking he already had the higher ground and was ready to continue whatever that was.

“I don’t think anybody else would take an interest in you,” he continued.

I scoffed and cursed under my breath. Why did I have to go through all this humiliation in the name of getting married?

“Shall we order?” I asked instead, trying not to dwell on his words. Even before I sat across from him, I already knew there was no chance for us. I would get through this to satisfy my mother.

“Sure,” he replied in a defeated tone. He wanted me to respond so he could compound it. Good thing I am smarter than he was.

When the waiter came, I intentionally ordered more than I could eat. I saw the way his eyes darted around so uncomfortably. Of course, he was the cheap kind who would refuse to spend any money.

“Don’t you think you are ordering too much?” He squeaked when the waiter walked away with our order.

“I mean, you can at least afford this, can’t you?” I leaned in with a sinister smile on my face.

He cleared his throat, Adam’s apple bopping too fast as he looked away.

“If you can’t afford a few dishes, what makes you think a Moore heiress is worthy of you?”

He stared at me, but I was done humouring him.

“You are just a social-climbing gold digger, and you are trying to get into our wealth. It's an honour for you to marry me? I’d say the reverse is the case.”

He opened his mouth to speak, but I was not going to allow him to get a word out. At least not until I had said all I wanted to. His face contorted like he was ready to explode.

“You aren’t worthy of me. Hell, you aren’t even worthy of any woman on this earth.”

“How dare you!’ He slammed his open fist into the table.

My eyes ran over the restaurant, and everyone was now looking at us. I lifted my chin, trying to act tough so their stares didn't get to me.

“You think you can talk to me like that?’ His voice rose more, and I sighed. “I will make sure you pay for this,” he continued, roaring, giving me the ick.

A man dressed in a suit approached our table. Henry got up as soon as he saw him, a smile already climbing his face.

“Good thing you are here. I am a vip here at this restaurant, and I want you to…”

“You have to leave, sir.” The manager cut him off, and a series of stifled laughter echoed through the floor.

Henry blinked rapidly, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to understand. “I said I was…”

“The owner has asked to ban you from the restaurant; please do not return,” the manager recited. “Do I have to call security, or are you going to leave on your own?”

Henry took a step back and stormed out of the restaurant after wagging a warning finger in my face. “You’ll regret this,” his voice boomed as he walked away. I waved at him when he looked back, and he didn't seem to like it at all.

“Thank you,” I murmur to the manager, but Stephen blocked my vision of the man and slid into the seat that Henry had just gotten out of.

He signalled the manager, who left after a small bow. I shifted in my seat; I hadn't expected to see him so soon. Memories from that night flashed in my mind again.

“What are you doing here?”

“I own the place,” he declared, and I nodded. Made sense for the Harrington heir after all. I raised my eyebrow because it was very unlikely he was here just because he owned the place.

“Oh well,” he coughed, shifting forward. “Tina told me about your blind date and…”

Of course, Tina would do something like that. I had called her last night to rant because I had no idea what else to do.

“You are here to stop me?” I shook my head when I realised that I was getting ahead of myself with him. “Oh, don't mind…”

“Actually, yes.” My eyes widened, and my mouth stayed open slightly.

“You need a husband, and I need a wife. Why don’t we get married?”

“I don’t think that’s a very good idea.” My mind couldn’t come up with a reason, but it felt like I was already treading dangerous terrain.

“My family thinks I am gay. You know that is not the case.” He paused, and heat crept up my neck and face.

“They want me to get married. Your mother would keep setting you up on blind dates like this until you find a partner.”

“And you want to go under the fire of my mom?”

“If you go under the fire of my family”

I pressed my lips together; this was the only way I could choose someone who wouldn't be a puppet to my mother. I shouldn't. I knew it, but this was the only way I got to have a choice, so I stretched my hand across the table.

“Deal”

STEPHEN I was supposed to be reviewing Queen Aris’s work. She was the new designer Mr Road had found. I wanted to meet her, but he had said that she wanted to remain anonymous. However, every time I looked at the drawings, I couldn't help but remember the way Jessie looked in that blue dress, the way her hips swayed as she walked out without looking back. I was stupid to have let her go just because of some pride. I shouldn't have let this happen this way.“Are you listening to me, Stephen?" Isabella shook my shoulders, her voice sounding like a mosquito in my ear. “Not now, Isa..." My voice was sharp as I eased out of her grip on me and got off the sofa, allowing the papers to fall to the ground beside me. I paced around, realising she had used my words on me. ‘Partnership and business contacts' – I had only said that because I didn't want to scare her away with the growing feelings I had for her that I couldn't understand. "Stephen? "Where are you going?” She stood up as well.

JESSIETina arrived, lugging a huge suitcase behind her. She had brought a kit she referred to as the ‘war kit’. It had makeup items that probably belonged to a makeup artist and dresses she had bought because she was sure they would fit me. “I don't know… "I don't think I want to go," I said as I lay down, pulling the covers over my body. When I had agreed to go dancing on a Friday night, it sounded like the best idea, but now I didn't want to have to leave Isabella and Stephen alone. It was like I was giving them what they wanted. “So what? You'll stay in bed all evening and be sad?” “Sad?” I murmured, cosying into the blanket. “I am definitely not sad." “Then we are going dancing." She ripped the blanket off my body, allowing the cold air from the air conditioner to sweep the bottom of my feet. “Come on, come on, get up." She was already pulling me out of bed. In less than thirty minutes she had rubbed makeup on my face, and I was barely recognising myself. She threw a silk

  • THE REVENGE OF THE CHUBBY HEIRESS   CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE: QUEEN ARIS

JESSIEI managed to find an excuse to get them out of my room. Stephen looked like a lost puppy as I pushed them out, but I didn't let it get to me. He could have as much fun with Isabella as he wanted. I didn't care about what he did. I closed my eyes and shook my head. Scratch that. I very much cared about what he did. I sat by my desk and began to work on my portfolio, the one Mr Road had asked me to present. Subconsciously, my hands move over the keyboard, and the name Queen Aris stares back at me. “Queen Aris" – I tested the name on my tongue and nodded in satisfaction. I had found my alias so easily. I drowned the thought of Stephen betraying me by immersing myself in extreme work. Surprisingly, the inspiration flowed better now that I was angry with him. The next morning, Isabella had taken over the kitchen once more. She prepared a plate of fruit and demanded that it be all we ate for breakfast because it was 'healthy'. “You need to look after your health, Jessie." She s

  • THE REVENGE OF THE CHUBBY HEIRESS   CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR: A PRIVATE DESIGNER

JESSIEIt's just been a full day, and yet every corner of the house was filled with Isabella's perfume. The flowery scent had an oud undertone. I didn't know if it was that I hated oud and flowers or if it was this woman who was clearly crossing her boundaries with Stephen right in front of my eyes. I had met with the board director, who was bent on bringing me on board. I had struggled with myself all night. I wanted that role so badly because not only was it a step up from what we currently had, but it was also fulfilling the very dream that took me into designing. To become a world-renowned designer on my own merit. “Mrs Harrington, I am so glad you agreed to meet with me," the board member said as I slid into the seat across from him. He looked so pleased that I was forced to believe his words. It was weird hearing someone call me by that name. I had been married for almost a month now, and it didn't feel like I was ever going to bear that name. “I want the job," I said, and

I AM SO SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE CHAPTER 42. IT WAS AN ERROR DURING UPLOAD. IT WILL BE RECTIFIED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TO MAKE UP FOR IT, THERE WILL BE A FREE CHAPTER BY THE END OF THE MONTH. THANK YOU FOR READING. ENJOY!STEPHEN A continuous ticking feeling in my head, the way my eyes hurt when I tried to open them and the dryness of my throat. I woke up fully tucked in bed, and the last thing I remembered was sipping on a bottle of scotch. I closed my eyes and tried to focus. The events of last night came rushing back in. I left the bar and ended up somehow at Jessie’s door. I remembered her holding me, and me leaning in. “Do I make you uncomfortable?” The question slipped out of my mouth, and I gasped in mortification. I never got drunk, always controlled, always managed, but the thought of Jessie alone had driven me to drink and exposed me before her. “Ugh!” I ran my hand through my hair and then my face. “I had to fix this, and I had to fix this fast." Luckily, nothing could

  • THE REVENGE OF THE CHUBBY HEIRESS   CHAPTER FORTY-TWO: TIPSY ALMIGHTY

JESSIE EARLIER THAT MORNING. The White Scandal is on every screen in the office. Even though it's obvious I am the victim of the scam Tiffany and her minions weren't ready to let it be that way. "Look what the cat dragged in" Tiffany sneered as I lowered myself into the chair. "It smells so much like trash in here" Sarah continued. I rolled my eyes and set my bag in front of me. I wasn't going to allow their words get to me. This was never my fault. It was all on Angela and Wade. "She's so fat that even her adoptive parents didn't want her" 'Ignore them Jessie, just ignore them' I changed over and over in my head. It didn't make sense for them to bully me but with people like them common sense was non existent. "Why would innocent people burden themselves with a pig?" Grace sneered. "The only use she had found for herself is to be bought and sold" Tiffany continued. "People like this shouldn't work here. It is making everyone else uncomfortable and it
