Today's the day of the celebration, the alpha ordered for a ceremony to celebrate the return of the white wolf. The whole town was busy preparing. For the past few days, people have been tripping in and out of our house in order to see the ‘white wolf’. Gifts and congratulatory messages were given, my parents were proud and they didn't hold back from saying it. They treated me like an egg and I hated it.

I hated the attention and the soft treatment. But what I didn't hate was my wolf,I had come to fall in love with it since the past few days.

Few days ago, June, Isla and I went into the woods and we all shifted. Shifting again wasn't as painful as the first time and according to the adults, with constant shifting and time, I'll barely feel it.

Shifting in front of my friends made their wolf look so small. I love it that I'm unique but I didn't like the attention it brought.

I am going to be shifting in front of everyone today, it made me nervous. That sounds like a big deal. I wasn't going to get naked in front of everyone but my parents assured me that I can destroy the clothes I choose to wear. Usually, to shift it is necessary to take of your clothes so as not to destroy them. But I wasn't going to do that in front of everyone.

I wore a casual easy flowing knee length gown and tied my hair up in a ponytail. I walked downstairs to see my family waiting for me.

“Mom…. please don't even say it" I shunned her from expressing how proud she was of me.. I've heard that way too many times. I grabbed Irene's hand as we all left the house. We walked towards the town hall in silence

On getting there, it was filled to the brim. Everyone was around and they stared at me as we made our way to our seat but my mom told me to go to the alpha as there was already a seat there reserved for me close to his family

Everyone was observing my every move as I walked, I stumbled but quickly regained my balance. The alpha's eyes were on me, this was first time I was sitting close to them especially the Luna. She looked reserved, with her back straight and an aura that commanded respect, I got really nervous when she smiled at me.

The alpha commanded silence and gave a lengthy speech regarding the white wolf. I was called to stand close to him. At that moment, my heart was racing. I tried to feign composure but inside me was chaos. I spotted my friends and they gave me a thumbs up and smiled at me, so did my family.

“.......And has blessed Aries here to be the next white wolf. Aries would now show us the might of the moon goddess’s white wolf” the voice of the alpha boomed across the hall. At once they all turned to me, waiting for me to do the big reveal.

I stared back, my heart racing and my palms wet, cold sweat trickled down my forehead. I couldn't turn, I panicked

" Hey, I know you're quite nervous but I want you to calm down, look at me and…..”

"Look at you?, you're quite intimidating” I spat out and quickly closed my mouth. I was shocked at my sudden outburst.

The alpha smiled and turned to his Luna, I could see he was a bit nervous as well, he had to call to her for help. She walked over and held my hand

At this moment,I just wanted to disappear

“Aries, you’ve got this. I'm not the one in this spot but I'm nervous too. I mean shifting in front of everyone?? But do you know why you got this? It's because you're the white wolf, the moon goddess's warrior, not just any other regular wolf, you're the white wolf” she soothed and smiled.

Something inside me clicked. She's right, I'm the white wolf and that means I can handle anything.

With that ringing in my head, my bones began to break and unbreak, my body restructured and rearranged Into the form of a wolf and within seconds, my wolf emerged. Everyone stared with their jaws dropped and amazement in their eyes. And almost immediately, they burst out in celebration and praises. I just stood there and stared at them.

The alpha gave a few more speeches before I was led outside and made to walk round the village with everyone walking beside me. It felt good, and so I just went with it.

The celebrations continued until midnight before everyone was made to return home while I returned home with my parents.

While hiding in the trees, I almost got caught. Thanks to my very alert senses, I heard and smelled the Ember Moon soldiers returning from their chase. I quickly climbed up a tree with thick branches that covered me well and hid. From above, I watched as they trudge past, tired and murmuring different words.“I'm getting tired of this," man 1 complained.“Stop whining like a child," man 2 scolded. " If you don't protect your family, who do you expect to do it for you?”“You're not the only one that's tired," man 3 chipped in. “Look at us, we've been chasing shadows for days. When are we going to stop?" “We will stop when we find the one who killed the rogue!" “Is there even anyone!" man 1 snapped. “Can we all accept that the rogue died by accident, or let's agree there actually was someone, they would've gone back to wherever they came from. Can we just give this crap up already”"Some people think it might be the white wolf,” a fourth man added."If it was her, we’d be seeing big

Early the next morning. I had a bath, shifted and headed towards Ember Moon. I needed to see what was going on in the pack before I made my next move. Now that they're in a state of disarray, it was the perfect chance to sneak in and get the job done. If they find Isla dead inside the cell, no one would be surprised after all she's done, but the question about who would've killed her would linger.I climbed up the hill and crouched, overlooking the town below. Everything looked normal. People walked about, cars rode by slowly, and little groups gathered here and there, discussing. I didn't need to guess what they were talking about; Isla. An urge suddenly hit me: I wanted to see my parents. I wanted to know how they were taking all this. I shifted back, slipped my clothes on, then headed into the town. What bothered me most was how easy it was to get in, I still didn't understand why no one noticed. ln any pack that cares about security, a dark hooded figure slipping in and out woul

I walked hastily through the woods, heading back to my home. Luck was on Isla's side.FLASHBACKIsla froze the moment her eyes found mine. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead as though her body already knew it was cornered. I stepped out of the dark into the light, letting my lips stretch into a frightening smile. She began to tremble.“Hello, Isla" I repeated, my voice steady, my eyes never leaving hers."A…Aries?" She whispered, fear dripping from her tone. Before I could speak further, the creak of the door shattered the moment. With speed, I launched myself out of the window and disappeared into the night, feet pounding against the earth until the town was behind me.FLASHBACK ENDSI didn't know what happened after I filed but instincts told me it was her father that was at her door. That alone was enough to stir my curiosity. I needed to know what was happening.I changed directions, my feet carried me toward the hill that overlooked the town. From its slope, I laid low, my e

My mood suddenly turned sour. This is all happening because someone was insecure about her feelings, and decided that the only way out was to frame her friend. Well today, she'll be joining the queue in the afterlife. I sat in my cave, waiting for darkness. That'll help me slip in unnoticed. If I went now, in broad daylight, I might get caught. The anger that was burning in me didn't allow me to eat or sleep. My mind roamed back to all the good memories I had in Ember Moon. They celebrated me like their heroine, like the most valuable person in the pack, yet they were so quick to toss me away over an accusation that sounds so stupid to the ears. No matter how I think of the story Isla fabricated, I can't make sense of it. It's full of holes, yet everyone believed it. It showed how stupid they all are. Including Dominic, who was supposed to be an Alpha. He's just as dumb as the rest. As soon as night came, I stripped off my clothes and shifted, the adrenaline fueling my anger. I gr

I drained the cup of hot chocolate, warmth spreading through me. It was great, better than I expected. Still, a small thought nagged at the back of my mind: I just hope they don't use that against me later. With that, I set the empty mug down and wandered over to a rack of jeans. They looked durable, simple and most importantly, affordable. “They look just your size,” the older lady's voice chimed behind me.I turned to see her standing there with a gentle smile.I returned the smile, a little stiff but polite.“I didn't get your name," she said warmly. “I’m Amanda, this store's supervisor." It's not like I'd be coming here again. Even if I told her my real name, that would be the end of it.“I'm Aries.” I answered Her brows lifted. “Wow, Aries, like the zodiac?”"What's a zodiac?”I asked, grabbing two pairs of dark jeans. The question seemed to knock the air out of her, her lips parted slightly, caught off guard. “It's umm…a celestial sign everyone has,” she said slowly, searchin

ARIES POVThe journey to Great Falls was almost unbearable. I had to fight my way through bushes and thorns, parts of the forest so wild, no one has ever hiked them. My legs burned with every step. Finally, I burst out onto the highway and dashed across before a moving vehicle could repeat history.I jogged through a sparse patch of woods. Through the bare winter trees, rooftops appeared in the distance and relief washed over me. Civilization.I hated stealing clothes from the civilians, but what choice did I have? I couldn't wander into a city naked. And walking around as a wolf was out of the question. As I neared the houses, my heart sank. It had snowed throughout the night, no one would be sane enough to leave their clothes outside. There wasn't a single piece of clothing in their backyards for me to put on. I groaned in frustration. And then, my memory snapped back to the clothes I had left behind after returning from Silver Crest. It wasn't too far, that would have to do. I ch
