Early the next morning, my parents and I were on our way to the alpha's house. On our way, people were looking at me, some smiled, others looked with admiration and wonder, while some just stared weirdly.

We got to the alpha's house and were led to the meeting room where the alpha and other important persons of the pack were already seated, waiting for us. They smiled when they saw me and engaged in side talks. I could see that they were excited. We sat down and I met the alpha's stare

“Aries, how do you feel?" He asked out of the blue

"I ....(coughs) I'm very fine, thank you alpha" I replied looking anywhere else but at him.

" We're all aware of the legend of the white wolf and we all know that no one has been the white wolf for a very long time now due to reasons unknown. And neither can we understand why there's suddenly a white wolf…..or does anyone?” Alpha Dominic asked staring around

The others shook their head, murmuring to each other

“According to the legends of before. When a white wolf shifts and is identified. She is trained and does her duty as bestowed upon her by the moon goddess. And we all know that being the white wolf doesn't come without sacrifice" he said and then turned to me

“Aries, do you know what those sacrifices are?"

" I can't recall” I replied looking lost

" A white wolf…..never has a mate, she must remain pure in order to reach her full potential. Do you understand what this means, Aries?” He asked and I nodded, I took a quick glance at my mom. She rubbed my back and flashed a sad smile.

“I’m glad you do. Any suggestions on how we should go with her training?” The alpha asked shifting his gaze to the elders

“I think for now, she should train with the others so she can learn the basics and when she has mastered that, then we can upgrade “ elder Nelson suggested

" We all know that the strength of the white wolf is more than that of any other wolf in the pack. So I agree with elder Nelson but while she's training with others, it'll be good to monitor her closely" Elder Justin added.

Other elders contributed while I just sat and listened.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached that I would train like every other young wolf at first and later upgrade to a harder level. There was also to be a celebration to thank the moon goddess for bringing back the white wolf.

My parents and I headed home but I was eager to see my friends. So I headed to Isla’s house. The thought of never having a mate bothered me, I guess the moon goddess knew my fear and decided to help me with it. I wonder if Isla and June had found their mate yet.

“Aries!!" Isla called and jumped on me.

I didn't even know where she came from.

“I was just about to head to June's. Are you ok?" She asked as we walked to June's house.

I nodded now getting tired of that question

“I can't believe that the legend of the white wolf is real and she's my best friend. Everyone is so shocked, we're so eager to see the wolf in its full form again" she rattled on and on while my mind wandered.

“Did you see my dad at the meeting?” She asked

" Yes I did, he was there" I replied.

June ran out from the house to meet us. One of the advantages of being a wolf, you can smell when other wolves are approaching.

June stared at me long and hard

“Aries are….”

" Yes June, I'm fine. Why does everyone keep asking me that” I sighed and rolled my eyes as we headed to our meeting spot at the entrance of the woods

" I'm sorry, we're all just shaken. Do you know how big this news is?. You're the white wolf for God's sake. That's crazy” June said in exasperation

“I can't believe it either. Found your mates yet?" I asked trying to wave off the white wolf topic.

“I haven't" Isla and June chorused

“Hey, wanna take a run in the woods, maybe it'll clear your head" June suggested but I shook my head, I'm not ready to go through that painful process of shifting again.

“I think I'll head home, I feel exhausted" I said and walked away from them without waiting for their response.

My head was full, I was trying to focus and I was honestly tired. I really need some sleep.

I got home and went straight to my room, I jumped on my bed and kept thinking of how different my life would be from now on, soon I drifted into a deep sleep.

While hiding in the trees, I almost got caught. Thanks to my very alert senses, I heard and smelled the Ember Moon soldiers returning from their chase. I quickly climbed up a tree with thick branches that covered me well and hid. From above, I watched as they trudge past, tired and murmuring different words.“I'm getting tired of this," man 1 complained.“Stop whining like a child," man 2 scolded. " If you don't protect your family, who do you expect to do it for you?”“You're not the only one that's tired," man 3 chipped in. “Look at us, we've been chasing shadows for days. When are we going to stop?" “We will stop when we find the one who killed the rogue!" “Is there even anyone!" man 1 snapped. “Can we all accept that the rogue died by accident, or let's agree there actually was someone, they would've gone back to wherever they came from. Can we just give this crap up already”"Some people think it might be the white wolf,” a fourth man added."If it was her, we’d be seeing big

Early the next morning. I had a bath, shifted and headed towards Ember Moon. I needed to see what was going on in the pack before I made my next move. Now that they're in a state of disarray, it was the perfect chance to sneak in and get the job done. If they find Isla dead inside the cell, no one would be surprised after all she's done, but the question about who would've killed her would linger.I climbed up the hill and crouched, overlooking the town below. Everything looked normal. People walked about, cars rode by slowly, and little groups gathered here and there, discussing. I didn't need to guess what they were talking about; Isla. An urge suddenly hit me: I wanted to see my parents. I wanted to know how they were taking all this. I shifted back, slipped my clothes on, then headed into the town. What bothered me most was how easy it was to get in, I still didn't understand why no one noticed. ln any pack that cares about security, a dark hooded figure slipping in and out woul

I walked hastily through the woods, heading back to my home. Luck was on Isla's side.FLASHBACKIsla froze the moment her eyes found mine. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead as though her body already knew it was cornered. I stepped out of the dark into the light, letting my lips stretch into a frightening smile. She began to tremble.“Hello, Isla" I repeated, my voice steady, my eyes never leaving hers."A…Aries?" She whispered, fear dripping from her tone. Before I could speak further, the creak of the door shattered the moment. With speed, I launched myself out of the window and disappeared into the night, feet pounding against the earth until the town was behind me.FLASHBACK ENDSI didn't know what happened after I filed but instincts told me it was her father that was at her door. That alone was enough to stir my curiosity. I needed to know what was happening.I changed directions, my feet carried me toward the hill that overlooked the town. From its slope, I laid low, my e

My mood suddenly turned sour. This is all happening because someone was insecure about her feelings, and decided that the only way out was to frame her friend. Well today, she'll be joining the queue in the afterlife. I sat in my cave, waiting for darkness. That'll help me slip in unnoticed. If I went now, in broad daylight, I might get caught. The anger that was burning in me didn't allow me to eat or sleep. My mind roamed back to all the good memories I had in Ember Moon. They celebrated me like their heroine, like the most valuable person in the pack, yet they were so quick to toss me away over an accusation that sounds so stupid to the ears. No matter how I think of the story Isla fabricated, I can't make sense of it. It's full of holes, yet everyone believed it. It showed how stupid they all are. Including Dominic, who was supposed to be an Alpha. He's just as dumb as the rest. As soon as night came, I stripped off my clothes and shifted, the adrenaline fueling my anger. I gr

I drained the cup of hot chocolate, warmth spreading through me. It was great, better than I expected. Still, a small thought nagged at the back of my mind: I just hope they don't use that against me later. With that, I set the empty mug down and wandered over to a rack of jeans. They looked durable, simple and most importantly, affordable. “They look just your size,” the older lady's voice chimed behind me.I turned to see her standing there with a gentle smile.I returned the smile, a little stiff but polite.“I didn't get your name," she said warmly. “I’m Amanda, this store's supervisor." It's not like I'd be coming here again. Even if I told her my real name, that would be the end of it.“I'm Aries.” I answered Her brows lifted. “Wow, Aries, like the zodiac?”"What's a zodiac?”I asked, grabbing two pairs of dark jeans. The question seemed to knock the air out of her, her lips parted slightly, caught off guard. “It's umm…a celestial sign everyone has,” she said slowly, searchin

  • THE REVENGE OF THE WHITE WOLF    CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE

ARIES POVThe journey to Great Falls was almost unbearable. I had to fight my way through bushes and thorns, parts of the forest so wild, no one has ever hiked them. My legs burned with every step. Finally, I burst out onto the highway and dashed across before a moving vehicle could repeat history.I jogged through a sparse patch of woods. Through the bare winter trees, rooftops appeared in the distance and relief washed over me. Civilization.I hated stealing clothes from the civilians, but what choice did I have? I couldn't wander into a city naked. And walking around as a wolf was out of the question. As I neared the houses, my heart sank. It had snowed throughout the night, no one would be sane enough to leave their clothes outside. There wasn't a single piece of clothing in their backyards for me to put on. I groaned in frustration. And then, my memory snapped back to the clothes I had left behind after returning from Silver Crest. It wasn't too far, that would have to do. I ch
