LOGINEarly the next morning, my parents and I were on our way to the alpha's house. On our way, people were looking at me, some smiled, others looked with admiration and wonder, while some just stared weirdly.
We got to the alpha's house and were led to the meeting room where the alpha and other important persons of the pack were already seated, waiting for us. They smiled when they saw me and engaged in side talks. I could see that they were excited. We sat down and I met the alpha's stare
“Aries, how do you feel?" He asked out of the blue
"I ....(coughs) I'm very fine, thank you alpha" I replied looking anywhere else but at him.
" We're all aware of the legend of the white wolf and we all know that no one has been the white wolf for a very long time now due to reasons unknown. And neither can we understand why there's suddenly a white wolf…..or does anyone?” Alpha Dominic asked staring around
The others shook their head, murmuring to each other
“According to the legends of before. When a white wolf shifts and is identified. She is trained and does her duty as bestowed upon her by the moon goddess. And we all know that being the white wolf doesn't come without sacrifice" he said and then turned to me
“Aries, do you know what those sacrifices are?"
" I can't recall” I replied looking lost
" A white wolf…..never has a mate, she must remain pure in order to reach her full potential. Do you understand what this means, Aries?” He asked and I nodded, I took a quick glance at my mom. She rubbed my back and flashed a sad smile.
“I’m glad you do. Any suggestions on how we should go with her training?” The alpha asked shifting his gaze to the elders
“I think for now, she should train with the others so she can learn the basics and when she has mastered that, then we can upgrade “ elder Nelson suggested
" We all know that the strength of the white wolf is more than that of any other wolf in the pack. So I agree with elder Nelson but while she's training with others, it'll be good to monitor her closely" Elder Justin added.
Other elders contributed while I just sat and listened.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached that I would train like every other young wolf at first and later upgrade to a harder level. There was also to be a celebration to thank the moon goddess for bringing back the white wolf.
My parents and I headed home but I was eager to see my friends. So I headed to Isla’s house. The thought of never having a mate bothered me, I guess the moon goddess knew my fear and decided to help me with it. I wonder if Isla and June had found their mate yet.
“Aries!!" Isla called and jumped on me.
I didn't even know where she came from.
“I was just about to head to June's. Are you ok?" She asked as we walked to June's house.
I nodded now getting tired of that question
“I can't believe that the legend of the white wolf is real and she's my best friend. Everyone is so shocked, we're so eager to see the wolf in its full form again" she rattled on and on while my mind wandered.
“Did you see my dad at the meeting?” She asked
" Yes I did, he was there" I replied.
June ran out from the house to meet us. One of the advantages of being a wolf, you can smell when other wolves are approaching.
June stared at me long and hard
“Aries are….”
" Yes June, I'm fine. Why does everyone keep asking me that” I sighed and rolled my eyes as we headed to our meeting spot at the entrance of the woods
" I'm sorry, we're all just shaken. Do you know how big this news is?. You're the white wolf for God's sake. That's crazy” June said in exasperation
“I can't believe it either. Found your mates yet?" I asked trying to wave off the white wolf topic.
“I haven't" Isla and June chorused
“Hey, wanna take a run in the woods, maybe it'll clear your head" June suggested but I shook my head, I'm not ready to go through that painful process of shifting again.
“I think I'll head home, I feel exhausted" I said and walked away from them without waiting for their response.
My head was full, I was trying to focus and I was honestly tired. I really need some sleep.
I got home and went straight to my room, I jumped on my bed and kept thinking of how different my life would be from now on, soon I drifted into a deep sleep.
Time passed, as it always does. The land slowly healed. Bloodied ground grew green again. Broken homes were rebuilt. The war became a memory, one spoken of carefully, as if speaking of it too loud might wake it again.Life continued. But not everything faded.Along forest paths and mountain roads, people began to tell stories. Travelers said they felt watched but never threatened. Hunters spoke of dangers that disappeared before it reached them. From the high valleys and the snowy mountain, a white wolf stood alone. The wind moved gently through her fur, carrying distant sounds from below.,Aries stood quietly, watching. From that night when the white wolf was discovered to the moment she was betrayed and then forced to live alone like a bushman. Aries persevered through them all and still came back to the people who turned their backs on her.Her return to the pack changed how they saw her from that moment when she first appeared to them in her wolf form. They feared her. Who would
I left Irene with my mom and prepared to go inside. That was when I walked into Elder Nelson.“Aries, I was just looking for you." He said, smiling.I raised a brow in confusion. “Why?" “Well, you're a special guest of honor." He said."Is that so?” I asked."Yes,” he replied. "We've kept a special seat for you in the hall, and it would be our greatest honor if you could grace it.""And you believe I'd want to?” I questioned coldly. "I'd rather stand in the dark.”I made to walk away, but he held me back and quickly let go. “Please, please take the seat. It'll be our greatest honor." I stared at him. If I kept refusing him, I'd sound rude, which was not a good thing. And I know he won't let me go until I agree to do what he asked.“Fine," I said. “But do not ask me to give any speech." “Oh no, I wasn't going to." He said. “Alright, we'll see you in there." Then he walked away.I just hope they weren't trying to buy my favor back, because I had none of that to give them.I walked i
It's been a month since the war. Today was the coronation of Nathan, late Alpha Dominic's eldest son.I got dressed in my signature piece; I didn't want any of them thinking I was soft now or that I'd forgiven them.I perceived Axton's scent before he got to me, so I stepped out. “You ready?" he asked.I nodded as we walked back to his car. “Where's Dani?" “She's in the car waiting." He replied.“How's your relationship going so far?" I asked.“It’s great; I've met her mom and her siblings,” he replied. “Dani insists we do a tiny wedding.”"Is that like a ceremony?” I ask."Exactly, it's a thing humans do to signify that they're married.” He replied."Hello Dani,” I waved as we got to his car."Hello Aries, it's so good to see you again.” She said and gave me a hug.I hopped in the back seat, and the car started and headed towards Ember Moon. It was in the cool of the evening. The expressway was quite empty except for a few trucks that passed once in a while before we diverted into
ARIES' POV:It's been two weeks since the war, and things feel quieter, peaceful, and calm. It felt good to be able to close my eyes without the fear of someone sneaking in to kidnap me or kill me. And it also felt good to be back to myself again without the fast-beating heart that dreaded the war. I lay lazily on my bed. I had nothing to do today; I didn't want to go training. I just wanted to sleep in bed all day and eat. But halfway through that, it got too boring, and I racked my head for any activity that could keep me busy. I stared around the cave, all rocks and stones. Very soon, I know I'd get frustrated with a space like this and be forced to look for an alternative. Not another cave, not to return to Ember Moon but to build a cabin or a hut. That would take a lot of work, but it would be better than living in this cramped cage.My mind drifted to Axton. He would've told Dani about everything by now. Would she accept him? Or would she reject such a life for herself and her
AXTON'S POV:I pulled Aries into a deep hug to comfort her; she effortlessly melted into my arms. A sign that she really needed that hug.I could understand how she felt right now even though she was trying her best to hide it and the tears that glossed her eyes.“Alright, let me leave you to go home to your mate," she said and disengaged. She gave me a happy smile, but beneath that was a sad one. Then she stepped out of the vehicle and bid me goodbye. I started the car and drove off.Even though I liked Aries, I couldn't ignore my mate. The feeling I had for her was nothing compared to the mate pull; it was way weaker. So now that I have found my mate, I have to kill whatever feeling I had for Aries and focus on my mate, keeping our friendship on a platonic level.I've never heard in all history of a werewolf being mated to a human. That was pure crossbreeding. How would it even work? How do I make this year work? When she finally gets pregnant, would that not affect her and the pup?
We talked all the way back to Ember Moon. Things were going to be different in that pack, and part of it was going to be caused by me. Very soon a new alpha would be coronated, who was going to be Alpha Dominic's eldest son, Nathan.I haven't really had a one-on-one chat with him. But now that he was turning Alpha, there were going to be a lot of those. Ember Moon was getting left behind by the world. There are a lot of things that needed to be introduced, and what better way to do that than with the introduction of a new Alpha? I thought I would be staying far away from Ember Moon after this whole thing, but I couldn't leave them without doing what I swore to do. I don't know when the coronation day is, but I'll definitely get the information before then.Irene stood behind me and massaged my hair. “What if I stay in your cave tonight?” she asked.I turned to her confused. “Why would you want to do that?"I don't want to go home," she replied. “And you promised me." I sighed. "Fin
