Early the next morning, my parents and I were on our way to the alpha's house. On our way, people were looking at me, some smiled, others looked with admiration and wonder, while some just stared weirdly.
We got to the alpha's house and were led to the meeting room where the alpha and other important persons of the pack were already seated, waiting for us. They smiled when they saw me and engaged in side talks. I could see that they were excited. We sat down and I met the alpha's stare
“Aries, how do you feel?" He asked out of the blue
"I ....(coughs) I'm very fine, thank you alpha" I replied looking anywhere else but at him.
" We're all aware of the legend of the white wolf and we all know that no one has been the white wolf for a very long time now due to reasons unknown. And neither can we understand why there's suddenly a white wolf…..or does anyone?” Alpha Dominic asked staring around
The others shook their head, murmuring to each other
“According to the legends of before. When a white wolf shifts and is identified. She is trained and does her duty as bestowed upon her by the moon goddess. And we all know that being the white wolf doesn't come without sacrifice" he said and then turned to me
“Aries, do you know what those sacrifices are?"
" I can't recall” I replied looking lost
" A white wolf…..never has a mate, she must remain pure in order to reach her full potential. Do you understand what this means, Aries?” He asked and I nodded, I took a quick glance at my mom. She rubbed my back and flashed a sad smile.
“I’m glad you do. Any suggestions on how we should go with her training?” The alpha asked shifting his gaze to the elders
“I think for now, she should train with the others so she can learn the basics and when she has mastered that, then we can upgrade “ elder Nelson suggested
" We all know that the strength of the white wolf is more than that of any other wolf in the pack. So I agree with elder Nelson but while she's training with others, it'll be good to monitor her closely" Elder Justin added.
Other elders contributed while I just sat and listened.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached that I would train like every other young wolf at first and later upgrade to a harder level. There was also to be a celebration to thank the moon goddess for bringing back the white wolf.
My parents and I headed home but I was eager to see my friends. So I headed to Isla’s house. The thought of never having a mate bothered me, I guess the moon goddess knew my fear and decided to help me with it. I wonder if Isla and June had found their mate yet.
“Aries!!" Isla called and jumped on me.
I didn't even know where she came from.
“I was just about to head to June's. Are you ok?" She asked as we walked to June's house.
I nodded now getting tired of that question
“I can't believe that the legend of the white wolf is real and she's my best friend. Everyone is so shocked, we're so eager to see the wolf in its full form again" she rattled on and on while my mind wandered.
“Did you see my dad at the meeting?” She asked
" Yes I did, he was there" I replied.
June ran out from the house to meet us. One of the advantages of being a wolf, you can smell when other wolves are approaching.
June stared at me long and hard
“Aries are….”
" Yes June, I'm fine. Why does everyone keep asking me that” I sighed and rolled my eyes as we headed to our meeting spot at the entrance of the woods
" I'm sorry, we're all just shaken. Do you know how big this news is?. You're the white wolf for God's sake. That's crazy” June said in exasperation
“I can't believe it either. Found your mates yet?" I asked trying to wave off the white wolf topic.
“I haven't" Isla and June chorused
“Hey, wanna take a run in the woods, maybe it'll clear your head" June suggested but I shook my head, I'm not ready to go through that painful process of shifting again.
“I think I'll head home, I feel exhausted" I said and walked away from them without waiting for their response.
My head was full, I was trying to focus and I was honestly tired. I really need some sleep.
I got home and went straight to my room, I jumped on my bed and kept thinking of how different my life would be from now on, soon I drifted into a deep sleep.
My eyelids felt heavy and they ached badly but I still struggled to open them after much difficulty. I stared around, it was dark and cold in here. I was lying on a strong mattress that almost blended with the floor. I was dressed in a worn out gown, my bare feet numb from the cold. I pushed myself up a little so as to observe my surroundings better. I was in a cell!. They put me in the pack’s cell!!!!!!???. I felt anger surge within me, my fingers curled into fist as I squeezed them in anger, nails digging into my palm. I still felt weak, my wounds were barely healing. Why am I not healing?, what was I injected with??. Why aren't they investigating this?, why am I in a cell instead of being in the local medicine house, being treated?. What is this treatment like I'm a criminal?.These questions ran through my mind and it increased my fury. I felt like punching something but that will do me more harm than good.I scanned the dark cell but June wasn't here. Oh goddess!, June. H
“I don't think this is the right way, let's go the other way” Isla mindlinks to us.This is the third time we're getting lost. We've gone deep into the woods and Isla still can't find the way to the stream. “Isla, are you sure of this stream you seem to have found?" June asked“I actually did come across a stream that day. But it's getting dark, it's better we head back" she replied and we started heading back without opposition.I can tell they were both tired but honestly I was barely feeling it. We walked back in an uncomfortable silence before Isla suggested we shift back and put on our clothes.“I'm sorry, this was such a waste of time, I really wanted to show it to you guys” she apologized“It's ok Isla, we'll see the stream some other day" I said, gently rubbing her shoulders.“How about some hide and seek as we head back, I'll seek" she suggests again, smiling mischievously. Something about that smile creeped me outThe forest was silent, even the birds seemed to have gone on
The village mall was a modest hub of activities. There were small stalls by the corner which consisted of a bakery, a coffee shop and an antique store but in the middle was the huge building, the main mall. The exterior was decorated with earthy tones and rocks to give it that earthy feel. There was a stylish sign outside with ‘TOWN MALL’ boldly written on it. The interior was a huge space filled with products and goods, from clothes to electrical appliances to kitchen utensils and the likes, all arranged in orderly rolls. After getting a few clothes, I sat down on a bench somewhere just to watch the activities of others in the mall. “Enjoying the scene?" I turn around to see June standing beside me, smiling.“Hey June, what are you doing here?" I ask as he sits beside me.“I'm here with my dad, we're getting a few things," he shrugs. We exchanged a few words before an awkward silence crept in. I turned to see June staring at me.“June, stop staring. It's creepy” I say and he chuckle
I was staring down fiercely at the alpha, baring my teeth and growling. I was pissed but I didn't know why.“Well well well, there goes something else you need to watch out for, your temper kid. You need to put it in check.” Alpha Dominic warned, collecting a handkerchief from Jacob to wipe his sweat.“Someone get her a blanket or something” he ordered and walked out.June and Isla walked up to me as I laid down, waiting for the blanket before shifting back.Isla was holding back a laugh while June petted my fur.“This is the first time we're experiencing your spontaneous anger. And I can't believe you had to fight the alpha.”June said, as he ran his hand gently through my fur.Another trainer, Layla, brought a blanket and led me somewhere private and I shifted back. “You'll have to go home and change, training's over for today” she said and walked away.I sighed, holding the blanket closely and turned around ready to walk home.“Where do you think you're going without us?” Isla's vo
I've been training for the past few weeks and with each passing day, I feel stronger and better. Although the training hasn't been easy as I am made to train harder than normal wolves but it is starting to pay off. Few days back, I took down a ruthless rogue and I've never felt more proud of myself.I woke up sweating and felt tears streaming down my eyes to my ears. It felt so real, I could almost feel the pain. I wiped away the tears and laid back down and took a deep breath in and out.All nightmares feel real except that they're not, but the fact that I've had this same nightmare but in different forms thrice bothers me. If it wasn't real, why does it keep coming? The dream kept replaying in my head till I dozed off.In the morning, I greeted everyone and sat with them to have breakfast, my spoon danced with my food as I couldn't focus, I was disturbed by the nightmares.“Aries, are you ok?" Irene asked, staring at me."Yeah I'm fine” I whispered uncertain of my answer“You don't
Today's the day of the celebration, the alpha ordered for a ceremony to celebrate the return of the white wolf. The whole town was busy preparing. For the past few days, people have been tripping in and out of our house in order to see the ‘white wolf’. Gifts and congratulatory messages were given, my parents were proud and they didn't hold back from saying it. They treated me like an egg and I hated it.I hated the attention and the soft treatment. But what I didn't hate was my wolf,I had come to fall in love with it since the past few days.Few days ago, June, Isla and I went into the woods and we all shifted. Shifting again wasn't as painful as the first time and according to the adults, with constant shifting and time, I'll barely feel it. Shifting in front of my friends made their wolf look so small. I love it that I'm unique but I didn't like the attention it brought. I am going to be shifting in front of everyone today, it made me nervous. That sounds like a big deal. I wasn'
