LOGINNOELANI POV
“How dare you go against my command?” He said, his voice laced with spite. “You are a rogue and should be done with the moment you crossed my pac–”
“Then kill me already” I said flatly, my eyes locked on him. I hate the feeling of being indebted to anyone.
He was taken aback by my reply but it didn't last. He went right back to his cruel self “I wish I could”, he muttered, and within seconds he lifted me and dropped me on the bed “Keep quiet and stay still” He snapped and stormed out of the room with long strides, locking the door shut behind him.
I sat there stunned, replaying his words in my head. He wished he could kill me. He wished to. Was he serious? Honestly, he has every reason to, but what was I thinking? Why did I say that?
I groaned as I fell flat on the bed. I wondered how long I would stay here and why he needed my wolf’s presence in order for him to converse with me.

Weeks passed and I was gradually healing, my ankles no longer hurt like it used to and the stitched gash on my back had healed. I was still locked up in this room, only the maids attended to me and when the doctor was needed, the doctor visited. The alpha never visited since the last time we encountered each other.
During the past weeks, I befriended the maids. I watched ever so closely every step they had made any time they removed their gloves and they never failed to keep the gloves in their respective pockets.
“Good morning Noelani,” Ivana said with a smile as she walked into the room with a tray of food. She was the shorter maid with blonde hair.
“Good morning Ivana” I replied to her and looked behind her in search of Stephanie “Where's Stephanie?” I asked
“Oh…she would not be coming. She has a lot on her schedule” She replied as she placed the food on the nightstand. “Here's your breakfast. I'd be on my way now” she turned to leave.
“Wait!” I yelled almost immediately. She turned back and looked at me with confusion and concern. “Um…the bathroom, I couldn't…I mean there's something wrong with the tap, I couldn't use it to have my bath” I said, as I climbed out of the bed.
“Oh… when did it happen? Last night or this morning?” She asked, stepping ahead of me into the toilet. I followed slowly behind.
“Last night” I replied, stopping at the bathroom door.
“Let me have a look first, then later I'll have someone fix it before daybreak” She crouched to inspect the tap.
“I'm sorry Ivana” I said before I shut the bathroom door lock.
“Noelani, open this door! How could you lock me in here? Noelani!” She yelled, pushing against the door. She's lucky it wasn't laced with silver.
“I'm sorry again! I just can't stand being locked up in here, thanks for nursing my injuries!” I said.
I rushed to the door, it was not fully closed. I shoved my hand into the gap between the door and the frame pulled it open and slipped into the hallway.
My heart pounded as I sprinted down the corridor. The room I was kept in was the last room on the floor. Within seconds, I came across a staircase and ran downstairs when I heard footsteps and a female’s soft voice floated through the air.
I peeped around the corner. A petite lady with long golden curls and a pretty sundress was talking to the alpha. I gasped when I saw him. He was smiling at her. I took a step back but curiosity rooted me.
Who is she? The alpha was smiling at her.
As they conversed, I caught her name: Hannah. She was so beautiful, bubbly and full of joy. Within a short time I noticed her.
I gasped when her eyes landed on me. She squinted her eyes to get a better look and then the alpha turned to look at me. He hadn't sensed me till now and for a moment I myself had forgotten my own purpose.
I stepped back behind the wall, heart hammering. My eyes caught an oak door on the other end of the corridor and I made a run for it when I heard the alpha footsteps coming behind me.
“Rogue?” He said once he gripped my arm, his gaze sharp “Who let you out?” He growled almost like he didn't want Hannah to hear.
“Ragnar, is everything okay? Do you need my help?” She called sweetly from the far end of the corridor.
“No Hannah” He answered quickly "Stay where you are, just heading to my office to get something” He replied.
He dragged me towards the oak door I had aimed for, opened it and shoved me inside. He glared at me, signaling me to stay put. He yanked the key from the lock and locked the door on his way out. I walked towards the door to bang on it, when it swung open. He stood in front of me.
“Don't even dare” He snapped “Or I'll kill you. And trust me this time it's not a wish. I would kill you if you plan on doing what you're thinking” He said with so much cruelty it frightened me to stillness.
I stood there frightened and scared, I glanced around the room. It was an office. His office. Every inch of his office was suffused with his scent. A massive dark oak desk dominated the center of the room, neatly arranged files were placed beside a black apple monitor. Behind it sat a high-backed leather chair. On the left was a neat twin shelf that had two flower vases at the base; The far end on the right side of the desk was a window wall that viewed a garden. The reflected sunlight kissed the black sofa, highlighting its sharp luxurious edge. The walls were painted in a cold monotone, void of warmth.
I reached for the door knob but it didn't budge, he was holding the knob from the outside.
Why does he keep locking me up?
Then I heard her voice again.
“Ragnar what's going on? Why are you holding the door like that” I heard Hannah at the other side of the door. I pressed my ears against the door to hear them properly. My senses weren't so sharp despite my healing.
“Hannah I said to not come here” He groaned, exhausted.
“Sorry, I wasn't trying to meddle” She said quietly “I thought maybe you needed help”
“It's okay Hannah, I'm fine. Let's just go downstairs”
“Okay okay, well as I was saying” Her tone brightened again “I can't wait for you to find your mate”
“And I've said again and again that I don't need nor want one” His answer came quickly and clipped as their footsteps faded down the hallway.
‘Mate’
NEOLANI POV“How did you know?” I asked, watching him as he leaned back on the sofa.“I saw you attack him,” Kendrick said, with a grin slowly forming. “And he didn't kill you.” He shrugged, as if the answer was obvious. “That only means you're his mate.”“I'm not.” The words came out clipped and defensive. “I attacked him for a reason,” I stated, folding my arms across my chest. “I'm fed up with him.”“You don’t need to lie, it's obvious.”He was quiet for some time. ”I know who you are. I know who your father is,” He rose from the sofa slowly. “You're from the Crescent Pack.”I didn't utter a word, he did the same, staring blankly at me waiting for a reply.A lump formed in my throat as memories I had buried resurfaced about my family and the last time I ever saw them.“Crescent Pack is no more,” I whispered. I tilted my head back fighting the stings in my eyes, blinking them rapidly. “My family was killed, I got lucky and survived as a rogue until I met Ragnar.”Despite how simple
RAGNAR POVI was grateful Hannah hadn't seen Noelani. If she had… what would have happened? How had Noelani even escaped her room? My thoughts roamed as my chest throbbed with that cursed, burning ache. A constant reminder of the mate bond I refused to accept, intensified. Rejecting one's mate always has repercussions, but to hell with it. The moment Noelani said my name, it stirred something in me that I couldn't comprehend, something I didn't want to. Ajax kept on chanting in my head to accept and mark her to make her ours. I refused, I wasn't the one interested in her and never would be. At least I was being honest and not toying with her feelings.Weeks had passed since I last laid eyes on Neolani. The throbbing pain in my chest became something I got used to, no longer flinching as much as before. Ajax kept on pestering to see her and never stopped whining about her, saying she couldn't handle the pain the way I could. Our wolves were bound, but our human halves were not. It was
RAGNAR POVI had gone out to inspect the guards scheduled for evening patrol, when a scent hit me so strong it stopped me in my tracks. It was a mixture of sweet vanilla and cocoa. My wolf howled in excitement, urging me to follow the scent. I shifted into my wolf form, running through the woods, the scent pulled me deeper. And then I saw her, a rogue who ran into the borders of my pack. My wolf, Ajax, stirred and howled louder in my head, demanding I let him through, but I subdued him with a snarl. There was no way the Moon Goddess had possibly matched me with a rogue. I let out a rumbling growl that echoed through the woods as I closed in on her.She looked disheveled, and lost. I planned to do away with her when I finally got her pinned down beneath me, but Ajax pleaded. Her green eyes stared back at me, causing my heart to skip a beat. Despite her fragile appearance, she was a fierce one, even in her human form, as she fought to flee my grip by throwing grit into my eyes. I howled
NOELANI POVHe didn't flinch, as if the pain was nothing and pushed my jaw away from his neck. He clamped my neck with his jaw, lifted me from the ground and threw me across the room. I slammed into a mirror, shattering glass fell on me as I dropped to the floor. Some broken parts of the mirror pierced my back. I whimpered, staggering on my paws as the wound healed immediately. My ears perked up, and I shook the glass that fell on my fur. This time Lana screamed in my head to stop and I ignored her. I had, had it with my mate. He stood across the living room, his wolf towered over mine, which made the living room seem small, but it wasn't.This time he tried mind-linking me, but I blocked him. Snapping menacingly at him.We went round in circles gnarling and snapping at each other. He tried mind-linking again, and I still blocked him because his voice would weaken me to submit, and I didn't want that. I lunged at him, but he blocked it, causing me to hit the wall. I groaned, shaking m
NOELANI POVIvana was the last person I saw before I went unconscious. I stirred on the bed when I felt a presence beside me. My eyes fluttered open and Hannah was seated on a chair beside my bed crying. As I sat upright on the bed, she looked up at me.“You're alive,” she bawled. "When I saw you struggling to breathe, I thought you were going to die. Alpha said you've not recovered."Hannah was worried about me and not what I had done to her the day before. Engulfed with shame, I looked away from her.“I'm sorry about yesterday,” I whispered.“It's alright,” she sniffled. “I'm doing fine, it's you who's still sick.”“I'm not sick.”“But the Alph–”“Please Hannah, I want to be alone,” I cut her off. She stared at me in disbelief. “I'm not going to run off…I can't even,” I whispered, turning my back to her.As I heard her leave, I curled up on the bed and cried. The scenery from yesterday replayed in my head as the agonizing pain in my heart built up, causing me to gasp for air just li
NOELANI POV‘Mate’I froze upon hearing Lana speak in my head for the first time in years.‘Lana…I've missed you, it's been long, been years’ I whispered in my head.‘Mate’, she said again, ignoring what I said.‘What do you mean by mate, who's my mate?’ ‘Alpha is mate’ Her last word sent a cold shiver down my spine. That's when I smelt it. His smell. It smelled like wood, sweet coffee and a hint of warm cinnamon, mellow and impossibly comforting, something I couldn't name. It surrounded his office.‘All this time the alpha was my mate? He knew all along? Why didn't he tell me? Was that why he demanded that I stay quiet till you come back? But he just told Hannah he didn't have a mate and didn't need one.’Lana whimpered in my head after my last statement.‘Don't worry yourself Lana, there's no way he'd hate us, he can't hate us. Mate can't hate each other and if they do, they will both be hurting themselves. And legend says rejected mates would be inflicted with pains worse than an
