CHAPTER 6: HE MADE MY PULSE RACE
VENUS: I swallowed hard, clutching the sheets as he walked toward the door. "Excuse me sir!" My voice was barely above a whisper, but he clearly heard me. He paused and slowly turned back, his dark eyes locking on to mine like twin blades. His eyes gazed at me with fury and I wondered what l had done to make him look at me that way. "What is it now?" He sounded impatient and irritated, as though I were a thorn in his flesh. I bit my lower lip, which trembled uncontrollably. "I..I just wanted to know... what exactly is my role here in the pack?" He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stared at me for a long, uncomfortable moment. Then his lips curled into something between a smirk and a snarl. "You’ll know when it’s time. Until then, stay quiet, stay obedient, and don't try to run away," he said with an edge that made me tremble. I lowered my eyes, but that didn’t stop my voice from quivering as I said, "But—" He cut me off, taking a sudden step toward me. I instinctively scooted backward on the bed. "Listen carefully, Pet," he said, his voice a dangerous purr. "If you want your life to be easy, then you’ll learn how to be submissive. That’s your only choice.” Pet? Did he just call me Pet? My heart raced as he took long strides toward me. He stood so close now, making me feel so intimidated. Then, suddenly, he sat beside me on the edge of the bed and moved closer. I stiffened. "You smell intoxicating," he murmured, lowering his head toward my neck. My pulse raced. Then he reached out and gathered my hair which fell all over my shoulders into one bunch. I shivered when his hand grazed against my shoulder. I felt weak, as if a single touch from him had weakened my bones. "P-please... don’t come too close," I whispered, but the words sounded like an invitation. He ignored me, his nose brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck. The heat of his breath sent shivers all over my spine. I felt strange. I felt heat build up in my body and I wondered what was wrong with me. His fingers brushed a strand of hair from my face and then, slowly, traced a line down my arm. My body was acting strange and he seemed to know as he continued messing with me. He lowered his lips to my earlobe and grazed it with his tongue. My skin tingled and I wanted to run my hand through his hair but I held them firmly by my sides. “You need to put on some flesh,” he whispered as he traced his fingers along my collarbone. I shivered when he touched me, and my chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. His eyes darkened with something that looked like satisfaction. "Interesting," he whispered, “you can feel my touch. I don't even have to wait any longer.” He wrapped my hair into a bum and stared at my face. “You are beautiful. If you obey me and serve me without hesitation, I will take care of you. Eat and sleep well. You have just three days to get yourself ready.” And then, just like that, he stood up and left without another word, the door clicking shut behind him. I was left in silence, shaking. I had felt nothing but hunger and pain since I was ten years old and this kind of sensation I felt just now was totally strange. A few minutes after the Alpha left, the door opened again. A young woman with a kind, round face entered carrying a tray of food. "Good evening," she said with a gentle smile. "I’m Mira. I brought your dinner." I nodded, but didn’t move. "The Alpha wants you to eat everything," she continued as she placed the tray on the table beside the bed. "He says you need to add some flesh." I stared at the tray. A bowl of thick soup, bread, a piece of roasted chicken, and a glass of juice. It smelled delicious, but I still felt worried about her statement.. "Why does he care?" I asked. Mira’s eyes looked into mine for a moment. Then she shook her head. “I don't know.” I frowned. "What if I don't have an appetite to eat?" She sighed. "Then we—the kitchen staff—will be punished. Severely. He doesn't tolerate disobedience." I blinked at her, horrified. "But that’s not fair. It isn't even your fault." "Life in this mansion isn’t about fairness, Venus," Mira said, her voice suddenly firm. "It’s about survival. For all of us. So eat. Please. Don’t make things harder." I picked up the spoon with a trembling hand. Why is he like this? So ruthless? Mira hesitated then said, "Alpha Maxine never found his mate. The Moon Goddess hasn’t favored him, and it’s made his Wolf a bit restless. And angry." I took a spoonful of soup and nodded. It tasted great. My life here, though not certain, was a huge difference from what it used to be in my uncle's house. "But he could have just married anyone" I stated. Mira nodded. "Yes. But that’s not the same. A mate is different. The mate bond is considered sacred. His pride’s been wounded." I put the spoon down, and looked her directly in the eyes. "So what exactly am I to him?" Mira looked away, her jaw tightening. "You’ll find out soon enough," she whispered. "Just... try not to make him angry. And eat. I’ll come back in an hour." I ate to my fill but the plates weren't empty. I didn't want to get the kitchen staff in trouble but if I tried to eat a little more I would throw up. The irony of life. In my former home, I had nothing to eat but here I was with more food than my stomach can take. And I am required to finish eating the entire meal whether I felt like it or not. I fell back on my bed and promised myself that I will finish the food after I have rested for a while. I didn't want to get the kitchen staff in trouble. But then I dozed off only to be awakened by the sound of gunshots.CHAPTER 79: THE BIRTHDAY PLANNING VENUS:I think my heart actually stopped for a full second after I heard Maxine declare that he'll mark me on my birthday and make me his Luna. It's so funny how life can change within a short period. Two months ago, I had arrived here as a slave, half dead, as a surrogate for the ruthless Alpha. And now I was about to be crowned the Luna of one of the largest packs in North America.I stood on my toes and kissed Maxine on his lips. This was the first time I initiated a kiss. “You're getting bolder,” He smirked and kissed me passionately, pulling me closer to himself. I didn't resist. I just leaned forward and rested my head on his shoulder, inhaling his manly scent which instantly turned me on.He ran his hand up and down my back while the other hand squeezed my ass gently. I was getting wet down there and a soft moan escaped my lips before I could stop it. He cupped my face with his hands and kissed me again."I will make Crystal help out with
CHAPTER 78: I WANT TO HAVE YOUR PUPVENUS:Hearing Maxine’s words, my body flushed. Sometimes I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. This was the same Maxine who had called me a slave every chance he got, tried to choke me to death several times, humiliated me by making me serve his girlfriend and sending me out of his mansion. Now he acts like his life revolves around me.This is proof that no condition is permanent.“I’m not going to force you to have sex with me. We’ll only make love when you're willing,” he added quickly, misreading the silence in my eyes. “I’ll court you if I have to. I’ll sleep on the floor for a hundred nights if that’s what you need. But I want this to be clear. The child we create will inherit the throne of two bloodlines—mine and yours. This isn’t just love, Venus. It’s legacy.”A shiver went down my spine. The room suddenly felt too warm. My palms tingled. I just didn't know what to say to him yet He took a cautious step forward. “I won’t force y
CHAPTER 77: I WANT TO SEEK REVENGE FOR MY PARENTS VENUS:Maxine didn't take his eyes off me while my mind was in a complete turmoil. I asked Elspeth a few more questions but she had no more information for me.“Thanks for your help, ma'am,” I said as I rose to my feet. I was already exhausted, going from one city to another. And the discovery of my past was exhausting enough. Maxine rose to his feet too and held my hand in his gently. He has been doing that a lot these days. I believe it was his own way of letting me know he will always be by my side.“You're okay?” he asked as he glanced at me.“Not really. But I can handle it,” I responded quietly.Elspeth took a long look at me. “I wish you a good future, child. Don't worry, you have a special destiny and no one can stop it.” I forced a smile. “Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.”She turned to Maxine. “Are you her mate?”He nodded. “Yes I am.”“Do your best to make her happy. I heard about the death of her adoptiv
CHAPTER 76: THE LAST OF THE BLOODLINEVENUS:I took the photo from Elspeth and took a long look at it. It was a picture of a chubby child with cute brown eyes. There was no smile on the baby's face as she stared at the camera and it looked as though she knew she was about to face the cruel world without her beloved parents.Maxine took the picture from me and also looked at it. “This was certainly you, Venus,” Maxine remarked without hesitation. “You held on to the officer's shirt stubbornly and didn't even bother to smile at the camera.”I chuckled. I knew Maxine was trying to ease the tension on my shoulders.Elspeth shuffled around in her slippers, gathering a few things that had something to do with me. “You said… I had a mark,” I reminded her softly, trying to prompt her memory. She nodded slowly, then sat across from me and leaned forward. “Yes. A crescent-shaped mark, like a half-moon… right here.” She motioned to my shoulder. “That mark is not just any birthmark, my dear. It’
CHAPTER 75: THE FIELD OF ASHESVENUS:I could barely keep my hands from trembling as Maxine helped me out of the black SUV. We were finally in New York—standing in front of the building that had once been my home, the one place that might hold the key to everything I never knew about myself.“”Welcome to St. Hilary's Home for Infants and Children,” Maxine read aloud from the faded brass plate nailed above the doorway. The building looked smaller than I imagined, with peeling white paint and a wooden porch that creaked under our feet. It felt more like an echo of the past than a beacon of answers. I took a deep breath, trying to steady the weight in my chest.Maxine pushed the door open and stepped in first. “Hello?” he called, his deep voice commanding and smooth. An older woman appeared from a side hallway. Her eyes were guarded, like she’d seen too many stories, too many lost children.“Good morning,” Maxine greeted her politely. “We’re looking for information on a girl who was adop
CHAPTER 74: PLEASE HELP ME VENUS:Margaret's lips parted, and for a moment, I thought she might bang the door on our faces. But instead, she stepped aside and murmured, “Come in.”Maxine followed close behind me as we entered the house. The living room was dark and cold, despite the sun outside. The curtains were drawn, and there was a thick layer of dust on some of the furniture. The coffee table still had the old photo frames—except now they were turned face-down.Maxine sat down calmly but didn’t let go of my hand.I glanced around. “Is Uncle Raymond home?”She hesitated. “He’s… not home.”That was a lie. A bold, poorly delivered lie.I tilted my head slightly. “Yes, he is.”Her eyes narrowed. “What do you mean? Where did you learn to challenge me?”“This is not about challenges, Aunt Margaret. I just heard his voice,” I said, my voice calm but firm. “He called your name from the back room.”Maxine’s body tensed beside me.My aunt’s face went white.I turned to Maxine. “I swear.
