CHAPTER 6: HE MADE MY PULSE RACE
VENUS: I swallowed hard, clutching the sheets as he walked toward the door. "Excuse me sir!" My voice was barely above a whisper, but he clearly heard me. He paused and slowly turned back, his dark eyes locking on to mine like twin blades. His eyes gazed at me with fury and I wondered what l had done to make him look at me that way. "What is it now?" He sounded impatient and irritated, as though I were a thorn in his flesh. I bit my lower lip, which trembled uncontrollably. "I..I just wanted to know... what exactly is my role here in the pack?" He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stared at me for a long, uncomfortable moment. Then his lips curled into something between a smirk and a snarl. "You’ll know when it’s time. Until then, stay quiet, stay obedient, and don't try to run away," he said with an edge that made me tremble. I lowered my eyes, but that didn’t stop my voice from quivering as I said, "But—" He cut me off, taking a sudden step toward me. I instinctively scooted backward on the bed. "Listen carefully, Pet," he said, his voice a dangerous purr. "If you want your life to be easy, then you’ll learn how to be submissive. That’s your only choice.” Pet? Did he just call me Pet? My heart raced as he took long strides toward me. He stood so close now, making me feel so intimidated. Then, suddenly, he sat beside me on the edge of the bed and moved closer. I stiffened. "You smell intoxicating," he murmured, lowering his head toward my neck. My pulse raced. Then he reached out and gathered my hair which fell all over my shoulders into one bunch. I shivered when his hand grazed against my shoulder. I felt weak, as if a single touch from him had weakened my bones. "P-please... don’t come too close," I whispered, but the words sounded like an invitation. He ignored me, his nose brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck. The heat of his breath sent shivers all over my spine. I felt strange. I felt heat build up in my body and I wondered what was wrong with me. His fingers brushed a strand of hair from my face and then, slowly, traced a line down my arm. My body was acting strange and he seemed to know as he continued messing with me. He lowered his lips to my earlobe and grazed it with his tongue. My skin tingled and I wanted to run my hand through his hair but I held them firmly by my sides. “You need to put on some flesh,” he whispered as he traced his fingers along my collarbone. I shivered when he touched me, and my chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. His eyes darkened with something that looked like satisfaction. "Interesting," he whispered, “you can feel my touch. I don't even have to wait any longer.” He wrapped my hair into a bum and stared at my face. “You are beautiful. If you obey me and serve me without hesitation, I will take care of you. Eat and sleep well. You have just three days to get yourself ready.” And then, just like that, he stood up and left without another word, the door clicking shut behind him. I was left in silence, shaking. I had felt nothing but hunger and pain since I was ten years old and this kind of sensation I felt just now was totally strange. A few minutes after the Alpha left, the door opened again. A young woman with a kind, round face entered carrying a tray of food. "Good evening," she said with a gentle smile. "I’m Mira. I brought your dinner." I nodded, but didn’t move. "The Alpha wants you to eat everything," she continued as she placed the tray on the table beside the bed. "He says you need to add some flesh." I stared at the tray. A bowl of thick soup, bread, a piece of roasted chicken, and a glass of juice. It smelled delicious, but I still felt worried about her statement.. "Why does he care?" I asked. Mira’s eyes looked into mine for a moment. Then she shook her head. “I don't know.” I frowned. "What if I don't have an appetite to eat?" She sighed. "Then we—the kitchen staff—will be punished. Severely. He doesn't tolerate disobedience." I blinked at her, horrified. "But that’s not fair. It isn't even your fault." "Life in this mansion isn’t about fairness, Venus," Mira said, her voice suddenly firm. "It’s about survival. For all of us. So eat. Please. Don’t make things harder." I picked up the spoon with a trembling hand. Why is he like this? So ruthless? Mira hesitated then said, "Alpha Maxine never found his mate. The Moon Goddess hasn’t favored him, and it’s made his Wolf a bit restless. And angry." I took a spoonful of soup and nodded. It tasted great. My life here, though not certain, was a huge difference from what it used to be in my uncle's house. "But he could have just married anyone" I stated. Mira nodded. "Yes. But that’s not the same. A mate is different. The mate bond is considered sacred. His pride’s been wounded." I put the spoon down, and looked her directly in the eyes. "So what exactly am I to him?" Mira looked away, her jaw tightening. "You’ll find out soon enough," she whispered. "Just... try not to make him angry. And eat. I’ll come back in an hour." I ate to my fill but the plates weren't empty. I didn't want to get the kitchen staff in trouble but if I tried to eat a little more I would throw up. The irony of life. In my former home, I had nothing to eat but here I was with more food than my stomach can take. And I am required to finish eating the entire meal whether I felt like it or not. I fell back on my bed and promised myself that I will finish the food after I have rested for a while. I didn't want to get the kitchen staff in trouble. But then I dozed off only to be awakened by the sound of gunshots.CHAPTER 7: REVEALING THE SECRET VENUS: The sound of the gunshot startled me out of sleep. I sat up on the bed and held my heart as it thudded against my chest. I covered my ears with my hands as if that would silence the echo still ringing in my head.Another gunshot.I stumbled to the window, my legs shaking beneath me. It was already dawn. I had slept so deeply after having a good meal.I looked through the curtains as my fingers trembled. Then I saw him—Alpha Maxine—lowering a smoking gun, his face was expressionless as a man lay crumpled before him, lifeless. My stomach churned."What the freaking heck..." I whispered, backing away from the window. My knees trembled and I collapsed to the floor, curling into myself. I hugged my knees tight to my chest, trying to make myself smaller, or even invisible. He shot someone dead without batting an eyelid. What a ruthless Alpha! If I made him angry one day, would that be me lying in the dirt, discarded like a broken toy?I couldn't stop
CHAPTER 8: WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?VENUS:The door opened suddenly and when Beta Conrad walked into my room, I took one look at him and knew we were in trouble. The way he slammed the door against the wall confirmed my fear. He must have been there for a while, eavesdropping. But why would he do that?I took a quick glance at him and turned my gaze away. He was a tall, broad-shouldered man with steely eyes. And the way those eyes glared from Mira to me made me shudder. My heart dropped. Was every man in this pack ruthless?“Good day, Beta Conrad,” I greeted him politely. He nodded stiffly but didn't speak to me.He crossed his arms as he stood there, and gazed from Mira to me fiercely. “Mira.”Mira froze beside me, and then began to tremble. It's a terrible thing to be a slave.Conrad looked between the two of us. “Venus, you’re to report to the clinic for a checkup.”I opened my mouth to ask why, but he cut in.“Mira, come with me.”Mira stood on her feet instantly. “Beta Con
CHAPTER 9: CAUGHT IN THE ACTMAXINE:“What do you think you’re doing?” I growled, stepping into the bathroom. The little mouse froze—caught halfway through the damn window like a thief in the night. No one in my pack knew I had hidden cameras in every nook and corner of the pack house. They always wondered how I get to know things they do in secret. This is the reason why no one has succeeded in betraying me. Venus gasped when she heard my voice, her frail body trembling as she tried to back away, but there was nowhere to go. Not with me standing in the doorway like a wall of fury.“Alpha…” she stammered, with wide eyes. “I— I just needed some air.”“From the window?” I raised one of my brows, and stalked toward her with slow, controlled steps. “You expect me to believe that?”Her lips trembled. “I… I wasn’t trying to escape—”“Save it,” I cut in coldly. “You think I'm stupid? I saw everything. You should’ve known better than to try something so stupid.”She froze. And I smirked dark
CHAPTER 10: MAKING MY POINT MAXINE:She recoiled instantly, clutching her blouse. “What?”“You heard me.”“Sir please, I said I'm sorry. I truly regret what I did.” she trembled as she spoke.“I believe you. And that's why I didn’t kill you,” I corrected, stepping toward her. “But you need to get used to my touch.”I saw her tremble again. She wasn’t ready. Not yet. With a sigh, I closed the distance and brought my hand to her face once more. Her skin was warm, trembling beneath my touch. Her scent hit me then—something soft and intoxicating. It pulled at a primal part of me I’d buried long ago.I leaned in slowly, letting my nose graze the crook of her neck. She stiffened, gasping.“You smell like trouble,” I whispered, voice low.She said nothing, but her breathing picked up.I brushed my lips over her collarbone, not quite a kiss, just a touch. Her pulse jumped under her skin.“You’re reacting,” I said with a dark smile. “You hate me, but your body doesn’t.”“I don’t—”“You don’t
CHAPTER 11: THE BEAST REVEALVENUS:I watched the Alpha and wondered what was making him tremble. Was it possible that someone as ruthless as Alpha Maxine was afraid of the storm? The lightning flashed viciously in the sky again.Maxine paused at the door, hand on the knob. His shoulders stiffened and he was literally shaking."That storm," I whispered, more to myself than anyone. "It came out of nowhere."He didn’t reply. Rather, he staggered back like the lightning had pierced straight through him."Alpha?" I rose to my feet slowly. "Are you okay?”His hands trembled at his sides. He turned halfway toward me, but I barely recognized his face. His eyes—those sharp, calculating eyes—rolled upward until only the whites showed.Every hair on my body stood on end."Oh my God," I gasped. "What's happening to you?”. But instead of a response, I heard a deep, guttural growl that rumbled from his chest like a drum in the pit of hell. His body convulsed. I stumbled backward, crashing into th
CHAPTER 12: I WANT YOU BACK VENUS: I was curled into the corner of the Alpha's vast library, flipping through the pages of a book about werewolves. I wanted to locate a part that has something about the thunder and it's effect on werewolves. But I haven't come across anything like that. I was beginning to feel a bit of frustration when a deep throaty cough that didn't belong interrupted me. I turned around and gasped in shock."Uncle Raymond?" I gasped. “What are you doing here?”He smiled a crooked smile. That same evil smile that once made me wish I was never born."Venus," he said, taking a cautious step toward me, his voice low and strangely soft. "I came to take you back. I need you back." I stood up, my fists clenched at my sides. "You need me back? Why? You can't find someone else to vent your frustrations on?" His smile faltered. “That's not why I want you back.”"Then why do you want me back, uncle Raymond. You sold me like cattle, I'm now a slave to a monster. Do you e
CHAPTER 13: I BELONG TO YOU, ALPHA Maxine:I walked into the library only to see a sight that made my chest twitch in anger. My eyes narrowed at the sight of Raymond yanking Venus toward the door. I felt instantly defiled.A bloody human dared invade my home? “What the hell are you doing here?” I growled, my voice thunderous. “Let her go.”Raymond turned, his hand still gripping Venus’s wrist, but before he could mutter a single word, I punched his jaw with rage. There was a sickening crack as he collapsed to the floor like a rag doll.Venus gasped and stumbled back, covering her mouth with her hands in shock. I didn’t bother to check if he was dead or alive as I grabbed him by the collar of his filthy jacket, his head lolling uselessly, and dragged him out of the library like the piece of garbage he was. As soon as I stepped into the hallway, I barked out, “Conrad!”My Beta appeared within seconds, and looked stunned when he saw Raymond lying on the floor motionless.“How did he
CHAPTER 14: SHE MEANS NOTHING TO MEVENUS:I watched Maxine leave the library, with long strides. The feeling of his lips on mine still burned on my lips, but the cold reality of who I was quickly doused any foolish warmth that tried to flicker in my chest.I wrapped my arms around myself and headed toward my room. The halls were quiet, only my gentle steps made a muffled sound. As I reached the staircase, I heard a soft sound that made me pause. It seemed to be footsteps, climbing up the stairs.I leaned over the railing and my heart slammed against my ribs.It was Maxine. And he wasn’t alone.Beside him was a beautiful woman. She was tall, elegant, with a cascade of perfect blonde curls falling down her back. She laughed at something he said, and her voice sounded so seductive. They were holding hands and looked perfect together.Something ugly twisted inside me.It must be jealousy.I gritted my teeth and yanked my gaze away. No, I reminded myself fiercely that I was nothing but a
CHAPTER 19: DON'T KEEP ME WAITING VENUS:His voice was low, deep, and commanding.“Take off your clothes.”I froze.I hadn’t expected him to say it so bluntly. And the look on his face terrified me. My hands trembled slightly, but I didn’t move. Not yet.He tilted his head, watching me with narrowed eyes. The smirk on his lips was gone and he looked like a predator about to tear into his prey. “All I need from you is obedience and you can't give it?”I swallowed hard and rose to my feet. “I’m sorry, Alpha.”He stared at me, taking in every inch of my body through the transparent lace that barely covered me. So this was the purpose of wearing this excuse of a dress? Just so the Alpha could stare through it and gaze at my body? He seemed to notice how my thighs quivered and the subtle shift in my breathing.“Then go on,” he said. “Don’t keep me waiting.”My fingers reached for the strap of the sheer lace dress Clara had forced me into. It barely covered anything, really—just a cruel
CHAPTER 18: TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES VENUS :I cried myself to sleep that night and didn’t leave my room for two whole days. Not because I couldn’t. But because I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to see anyone.I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. Each time I tried, I saw a scared little girl pretending to be strong.I cried. A lot. Not because I saw Maxine with Olivia or even because of Maxine’s cruel words. But because I let myself believe for one stupid second that maybe he cared. Who would blame me? He touched me in ways that made me feel special. Mira still brought me food. Fancy things. Healthy things. Fruits I didn’t even know existed and soups that tasted like they came from a royal kitchen.Mira always stayed to make sure I finished the food. That was the Alpha's order, she always said and he is never to be disobeyed. I had to eat. It was Maxine’s order. He wanted me to be strong. Not for love but for breeding. It has been two days and I was beginning to feel like a pr
CHAPTER 17: OLIVIA’S INSULTS VENUS:I ignored Olivia as she glared at me. She was the least of my problems. But at least her appearance has just saved my life.As soon as I was able to catch my breath, I headed up the stairs to my room.Olivia.She's the new girl that Maxine is flaunting around. Her blonde hair was immaculately brushed, cascading down her shoulders like she’d just stepped out of a fashion magazine. She wore a red dress that hugged her body in a way that screamed confidence and manipulation."I heard you questioning someone in anger" she said smoothly, stepping closer to Maxine. "So I decided to come down and check."She reached for Maxine like she owned him. “Is something wrong, Alpha?”Her arms went around his neck but before she could lock them in place, he pushed her away. She stumbled a bit and her eyes widened in embarrassment.I squeezed my forehead in confusion. Did he push her because I was there? Or because he was still angry? It didn’t even matter, Venus.
CHAPTER 16: YOU WANT TO PLAY GAMES, VENUS?VENUS: I had anticipated that Gavin might tell his boss about the drugs I bought so I hid the contraceptive pills in my bra.He probably used the mind link he told me about to communicate with him.Sigh.Maxine's voice cracked like a whip in the hallway. "Let me see what you bought,” he repeated urgently.I swallowed hard, forcing a calm expression on my face even as my insides twisted like tangled wires. With careful hands, I pulled the paper bag open and handed him the box of painkillers. “Just this,” I said, keeping my tone as neutral as possible. His eyes scanned the label, and his brow furrowed slightly. “Painkillers?”“For my headache,” I replied smoothly, praying he wouldn’t hear the rapid drum of my heartbeat. He stared at me for a long moment, as if weighing the truth in my voice. “So why didn't you tell me you had a headache?” “You were busy, Alpha and I didn't want to disturb you.”Maxine locked eyes with me for a moment. Then,
CHAPTER 15: LET ME SEE WHAT YOU BOUGHT VENUS :How can I watch a movie when I don't even know how to operate the television? Watching a movie was one luxury I wasn't allowed to have in my uncle's place.I sighed and tried again. “Beta Conrad, please just for a few minutes? I won’t go far.”“You’ll be accompanied,” he said, signaling to a young male guard standing a few feet away. “Gavin will go with you.”Gavin was tall and stone-faced, but at least he didn’t look like the type who talked much. I could work with that.“Fine,” I muttered, forcing a smile. As we stepped out into the sunlight, I breathed in the fresh air, letting the breeze caress my skin. It was rare I had moments like this.“So… how long have you worked for the Alpha?” I asked Gavin, hoping to make conversation. He didn’t answer at first. Just kept walking like I hadn’t said anything. When I thought he’d ignore me completely, he muttered, “Since I turned eighteen.”I tilted my head. “And you like it?”“He gave me a p
