Venus Carter has never known love, only cruelty. Orphaned and left in the hands of her merciless uncle, she endures years of torment, treated worse than a slave. But when her uncle sells her to the ruthless Alpha Maxine Blackwood, she realizes she has lost even the little freedom she once had. Her purpose? To bear him an heir. But Venus refuses to be just a vessel. She secretly takes contraceptives, defying the powerful Alpha’s will. When her deception is discovered, Maxine’s fury knows no bounds, and her punishment is worse than anything she has ever endured. Just when she believes she can’t take any more, fate twists in an unexpected way—Maxine is poisoned with wolfsbane, a slow and excruciating death for a werewolf. Only Venus holds the cure. With the Alpha’s life in her hands, she finds herself with the rarest thing of all—power over the monster who ruined her life. But with that power comes a choice: save him and risk losing her chance at freedom or let him perish and be rid of him forever. And if she saves him, will she uncover the man beneath the beast?

VENUS: “Venus! Venus! Where’s that little piece of trash?” I heard Cynthia yelling my name upstairs and my heart skipped multiple beats. Whenever she calls me in that manner, there's trouble for me. “I'm here,” I answered weakly, scrubbing harder on the marble floor. My knees hurt from kneeling all day and my stomach wouldn't stop growling. This has been my life since I was ten years old. Cynthia matched furiously down the stairs with a couple of her friends. I tightened my grip on the brush, knowing what they're capable of. “Why haven't you cleaned my room yet?” She glared at me furiously and I kept my gaze down. I didn't want to offend her in any way because doing that would earn me several strokes of cane from my uncle. "You lazy rat, how long does it take to mop the floors of this mansion? You're worthless and I'm tired of seeing your ugly face," Cynthia was my uncle's daughter and she liked to call herself the princess of the family who would one day marry a noble Prince. I didn't utter a word but kept scrubbing. She grabbed my hand and twisted it so hard I almost screamed. “I'm talking to you, little rat. How dare you ignore me?” “I. I've cleaned your room already, Cynthia.” “Liar!” she screamed. “Go upstairs now and have my room properly cleaned.” I bit on my lower lip and headed to Cynthia’s room with my cleaning tools. This was the third time today. As I walked past her, she dragged my hair so hard I lost balance and spilled some water on the floor. “Pathetic!” she hissed and they all laughed at me. I cleaned up the water and continued moving. She always made me clean her room several times a day so that my uncle could whip me severely for not finishing my work on time. I started scrubbing the floors of her room again and just when I was almost done, she barged in with her friends. I kept my head down and continued scrubbing. Maybe if I ignored them, they would leave me alone. No such luck. One of her friends dipped her polished shoe directly into the soapy water and smeared dirt over my work. My heart sank. "Oh dear," Cynthia sighed dramatically, nudging my bucket with the tip of her shoe until the water sloshed onto my lap. "You missed a spot." Her friends laughed. I clenched my jaw and willed myself to stay silent. But after years of this torment, something inside me snapped. "You did that on purpose." They all stopped laughing. Cynthia’s eyes darkened as she crouched beside me. "What did you just say?" I swallowed hard. "I said…" She slapped me hard on my cheeks before I could finish my sentence. My head flew to the wall nearby and I felt a sharp pain spread across my skull. But I wasn't prepared for what happened next. Cynthia gasped loudly and staggered back, clutching her cheek as if she were the one who had been hit. "How dare you!" she wailed. "You hit me!" "What?" I was rendered speechless. "I didn’t even.." I could hear heavy footsteps down the hall. My stomach dropped. Uncle Raymond was ruthless when it came to whipping me and he believes whatever Cynthia tells him. "Venus!" I turned just in time to see my uncle storming toward me, his face twisted in rage. His wife, Margaret was right beside him. Cynthia sniffled, and tears gathered in her blue eyes as she played the victim flawlessly. "She slapped me, Dad," Cynthia whimpered, hiding her smirk behind her trembling hands. "No, I didn't!" I cried, as I moved backward, bracing myself for what would come next. "She.." I felt another pain across my face as Aunt Margaret’s palm struck me. I staggered back, my vision blurring from the force of it. "How dare you raise your filthy hand against my daughter!" she seethed, her grip tightening on my arm until It felt as if my bone was about to crush. . "I swear, I didn’t touch her!" My voice cracked as I looked at her for mercy but my nightmare was just about to begin. "She’s lying!" “Step aside, Margaret, let me handle this.” When I heard my uncle's voice, my knees buckled. "Did you just say my daughter lied?” His voice was full of venom. I shook my head as I moved backward. “Cynthia would never lie.” Margaret maintained. “You, on the other hand, are nothing but a burden!" Cynthia and her friends snickered behind her. My uncle always had a whip ready. When he raised his hand and the whip connected with my skin, I gasped and trembled in pain. The whip kept coming and I scurried to one corner of the room, whimpering and trembling. This has gone on for years but the pains never felt any better. Uncle Raymond continued to lash at me until my entire body was covered in fresh wounds. Blood sipped through my fragile skin and I could do nothing but sob. "Since you have the strength to fight, you must not be working hard enough," uncle Raymond continued coldly. "No dinner for you tonight. And if I hear one more complaint, I’ll make sure you regret it." My heart was grieved. I haven't eaten in three days. "Please," I whispered, hating how weak my voice sounded. "I haven't eaten—" "Then maybe you'll learn to be grateful for what little you get," he snapped. "Finish your work. Now." With that, my uncle and aunt turned on their heels and strode away. Cynthia and her friends followed with a victorious smirk. I remained frozen, my cheek throbbing, my body aching and my stomach twisting painfully. I cleaned my tears quickly because I had learned long ago that tears only made things worse. As I picked up the brush, knelt back down, and started to scrub, I felt a violent twist in my stomach and before I could make sense of what was happening, the floor before me was filled with a substance that looked like acid.CHAPTER 97: STAGING AN EXECUTION MAXIM:All through the day, I thought of a way to have Draven wrapped around my fingers without hurting his son. He knew I wouldn't do it unless I was ready to face the wrath of the Alpha King and probably the Moon Goddess herself. But without hurting his son, Draven wasn't going to bulge even when he has said that the boy wasn't important to him.The sun has begun to dive down the horizon and the square was dead silent when I arrived, my boots thudding against the ancient stones like the pulse of vengeance itself. I could feel the fear and anxiety in the air. And all my pack members were here to witness the execution first hand.Perfect.Draven’s son, Elior, dangled from the blackened iron post in the center of the square. His pale arms were chained above his head, silver shackles biting into his skin. The cursed collar I placed around his neck shimmered faintly with violet veins of magic, the kind that seeped into the marrow and hollowed out the sou
CHAPTER 96: THE CONFLICT DEEPENSMAXIM:The ancient blood moon and wolfsbane smoke was being prepared in a particular room set aside in the maid's quarters. I watched from the window, unable to take my eyes away. “What the hell are they doing?” Venus asked, looking appalled.“Preparing the blood moon and wolfsbane smoke, as you have requested.”She nodded and moved closer. “May the Moon Goddess protect the Bloodclaw Pack.”“So be it,” I said as I took her hand and led her inside. We stayed together, discussing, planning and wishing for the best until night fell.It was still early, and Venus curled up in my arms, breathing evenly. Suddenly, my phone vibrated violently on the table beside me. I didn’t bother checking the caller ID—only a few people had this number. I grabbed it, "Speak," I barked into the phone."Alpha Maxim, we have a situation. The cargo… it’s gone."The words felt like acid."Gone? What the hell do you mean gone?""The containers never made it to the port. Our men
CHAPTER 95: PREPARING FOR WARVENUS:When I got to know what Maxine had done, I hurried to his study. “Maxine…”He stood by the liquor tray, pouring himself a drink with the calm of a man who had just sealed a deal, not committed a declaration of war. His sleeves were rolled up, muscles flexing as he stirred the amber liquid.“You kidnapped a child,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, trembling with something I couldn’t name—was it rage, fear, disbelief?“I did what I had to do.” He took a slow sip. “In our world, playing fair will have you buried before your mate's scent fades from your clothes.”I folded my arms tightly. “So the answer is to stoop to their level?”“No,” he said, walking toward me, eyes gleaming like steel under pressure. “The answer is to win. To survive. To make damn sure Draven knows I’m not here to play house while he plots to rip apart everything I’ve built. If I didn’t act first, you’d be mourning me instead. Or vice versa.”“But the boy—”“Is safe,” he c
CHAPTER 94: YOU KIDNAPPED MEMAXINE:I led Venus upstairs to our room and returned to my study. I can't lie down and slumber away while my pack and my legacy is at stake.I stared at the map sprawled across the oak table in my war room. Every inch of parchment had pins, strings, and red marks. These are all Draven’s territory, his guard routes, and his weak spots. The bastard had gotten too comfortable thinking he could attack me anytime he wanted. He probably knew I was away on a honeymoon. But what he didn’t know is that I could smell his desperation from Paris. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, desperate alphas make reckless moves.I stood in front of the window overlooking the courtyard, the night dense with fog. My breath fogged the glass. Behind me, Conrad, my most trusted Beta and enforcer, stepped into the room with a tablet in hand.“He's just left the west border,” Conrad said, tapping the screen. “Draven’s been frequenting that healer's cottage outside his pack's peri
CHAPTER 92: ENDING THE HONEYMOON IN A HURRY VENUS:I glanced around. Maxine was sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the turmoil raging in my heart. I went back to sleep after a moment and had another dream. It played before my eyes like the behind the scenes of a movie. Draven has gathered his warriors and was barking orders. And then I saw them matching towards Bloodclaws pack with weapons and furry. Then houses began to go up in flames. As I jolted up in bed, the room was cloaked in darkness, but the vividness of the vision still danced before my eyes. I clutched the sheets against my chest, my heartbeat thundering in my ears.Maxine stirred beside me. “Venus?” he murmured, voice husky with sleep. “What’s wrong?”I turned to him, struggling to steady my breathing. “I saw something, Maxine. A vision.”“Tell me about it, “ he said, sitting up. “I saw Draven… he’s planning something. He’s going to attack your pack while you’re gone.”He sat up immediately, fully alert now. “Are you su
CHAPTER 92: SIGHTSEEING AND THE SHADOWS VENUS:I slept In Maxine's arms and when the morning came and the sunlight poured into the hotel suite like honey, I stirred lazily in bed, my limbs tangled in the silky sheets. My body was sore in the best ways possible. Maxine was already up, shirtless and humming softly as he buttoned his designer pants."Why are you getting dressed so early?" I murmured, yawning as I propped myself up on the pillows. He turned, grinning. "I made you a promise last night, remember. Get dressed, beautiful. We’re going sightseeing."I groaned. “Isn't it too early? We haven't even had breakfast.”“Don't worry, I'll take care of that.”I knew that when he said he would do something, be rest assured that he would do it. I quickly washed up and got dressed. It was late morning when we left our hotel room. Paris unfolded before us in shimmering opulence. Our first stop was at a fancy restaurant with waiters that dressed like bankers.“Eating here must cost a fortu
