Venus Carter has never known love, only cruelty. Orphaned and left in the hands of her merciless uncle, she endures years of torment, treated worse than a slave. But when her uncle sells her to the ruthless Alpha Maxine Blackwood, she realizes she has lost even the little freedom she once had. Her purpose? To bear him an heir. But Venus refuses to be just a vessel. She secretly takes contraceptives, defying the powerful Alpha’s will. When her deception is discovered, Maxine’s fury knows no bounds, and her punishment is worse than anything she has ever endured. Just when she believes she can’t take any more, fate twists in an unexpected way—Maxine is poisoned with wolfsbane, a slow and excruciating death for a werewolf. Only Venus holds the cure. VENUS: “Venus! Venus! Where’s that little piece of trash?” I heard Cynthia yelling my name upstairs and my heart skipped multiple beats. Whenever she calls me in that manner, there's trouble for me. “I'm here,” I answered weakly, scrubbing harder on the marble floor. My knees hurt from kneeling all day and my stomach wouldn't stop growling. This has been my life since I was ten years old. Cynthia matched furiously down the stairs with a couple of her friends. I tightened my grip on the brush, knowing what they're capable of. “Why haven't you cleaned my room yet?” She glared at me furiously and I kept my gaze down. I didn't want to offend her in any way because doing that would earn me several strokes of cane from my uncle. "You lazy rat, how long does it take to mop the floors of this mansion? You're worthless and I'm tired of seeing your ugly face," Cynthia was my uncle's daughter and she liked to call herself the princess of the family who would one day marry a noble Prince. I didn't utter a word but kept scrubbing. She grabbed my hand and twisted it so hard I almost screamed. “I'm talking to you, little rat. How dare you ignore me?” “I. I've cleaned your room already, Cynthia.” “Liar!” she screamed. “Go upstairs now and have my room properly cleaned.” I bit on my lower lip and headed to Cynthia’s room with my cleaning tools. This was the third time today. As I walked past her, she dragged my hair so hard I lost balance and spilled some water on the floor. “Pathetic!” she hissed and they all laughed at me. I cleaned up the water and continued moving. She always made me clean her room several times a day so that my uncle could whip me severely for not finishing my work on time. I started scrubbing the floors of her room again and just when I was almost done, she barged in with her friends. I kept my head down and continued scrubbing. Maybe if I ignored them, they would leave me alone. No such luck. One of her friends dipped her polished shoe directly into the soapy water and smeared dirt over my work. My heart sank. "Oh dear," Cynthia sighed dramatically, nudging my bucket with the tip of her shoe until the water sloshed onto my lap. "You missed a spot." Her friends laughed. I clenched my jaw and willed myself to stay silent. But after years of this torment, something inside me snapped. "You did that on purpose." They all stopped laughing. Cynthia’s eyes darkened as she crouched beside me. "What did you just say?" I swallowed hard. "I said…" She slapped me hard on my cheeks before I could finish my sentence. My head flew to the wall nearby and I felt a sharp pain spread across my skull. But I wasn't prepared for what happened next. Cynthia gasped loudly and staggered back, clutching her cheek as if she were the one who had been hit. "How dare you!" she wailed. "You hit me!" "What?" I was rendered speechless. "I didn’t even.." I could hear heavy footsteps down the hall. My stomach dropped. Uncle Raymond was ruthless when it came to whipping me and he believes whatever Cynthia tells him. "Venus!" I turned just in time to see my uncle storming toward me, his face twisted in rage. His wife, Margaret was right beside him. Cynthia sniffled, and tears gathered in her blue eyes as she played the victim flawlessly. "She slapped me, Dad," Cynthia whimpered, hiding her smirk behind her trembling hands. "No, I didn't!" I cried, as I moved backward, bracing myself for what would come next. "She.." I felt another pain across my face as Aunt Margaret’s palm struck me. I staggered back, my vision blurring from the force of it. "How dare you raise your filthy hand against my daughter!" she seethed, her grip tightening on my arm until It felt as if my bone was about to crush. . "I swear, I didn’t touch her!" My voice cracked as I looked at her for mercy but my nightmare was just about to begin. "She’s lying!" “Step aside, Margaret, let me handle this.” When I heard my uncle's voice, my knees buckled. "Did you just say my daughter lied?” His voice was full of venom. I shook my head as I moved backward. “Cynthia would never lie.” Margaret maintained. “You, on the other hand, are nothing but a burden!" Cynthia and her friends snickered behind her. My uncle always had a whip ready. When he raised his hand and the whip connected with my skin, I gasped and trembled in pain. The whip kept coming and I scurried to one corner of the room, whimpering and trembling. This has gone on for years but the pains never felt any better. Uncle Raymond continued to lash at me until my entire body was covered in fresh wounds. Blood sipped through my fragile skin and I could do nothing but sob. "Since you have the strength to fight, you must not be working hard enough," uncle Raymond continued coldly. "No dinner for you tonight. And if I hear one more complaint, I’ll make sure you regret it." My heart was grieved. I haven't eaten in three days. "Please," I whispered, hating how weak my voice sounded. "I haven't eaten—" "Then maybe you'll learn to be grateful for what little you get," he snapped. "Finish your work. Now." With that, my uncle and aunt turned on their heels and strode away. Cynthia and her friends followed with a victorious smirk. I remained frozen, my cheek throbbing, my body aching and my stomach twisting painfully. I cleaned my tears quickly because I had learned long ago that tears only made things worse. As I picked up the brush, knelt back down, and started to scrub, I felt a violent twist in my stomach and before I could make sense of what was happening, the floor before me was filled with a substance that looked like acid.CHAPTER 134: THIS IS MY LIFE NOW VENUS:I clutched the little piece of paper the manager gave me like it was some sort of lifeline. My palms were sweaty, my legs shaky, but I forced myself to keep moving until I found the office with a sign that read STAFF MANAGER.I knocked lightly on the door, and a deep voice answered, “Come in.”With trembling hands, I turned the door knob and opened the door slowly. My steps were tentative as I walked into the office. Behind a desk sat a middle-aged man with broad shoulders and tired eyes. He glanced up at me, then at the paper in my hand.I stepped forward and held it out. “Good day, sir. Uh… the manager told me to give you this.”He took it, scanned it briefly, then gave me the kind of nod people give when they don’t really care. “Kendra!” he barked. From a corner, a young woman looked up from a phone she was scrolling on. She had braided hair tied back into a bun and wore the club’s uniform. She wore a short black skirt, white shirt, and blac
CHAPTER 133: CRYSTAL'S ADVICE MAXIM:As soon as I left the clinic, I headed back to the pack house. I pushed the door to Crystal’s room open without even knocking. My chest felt heavy, like somebody had dropped a rock on it. I couldn’t keep this inside anymore.Crystal was sitting by the window, brushing her long hair. When she saw my face, she dropped the brush right away.“Maxim,” she said, standing. “What happened? You look like somebody just died.”I leaned against the wall, running my hands down my face. “It feels like I did.”Her eyes widened. “Tell me. What is it?”I swallowed hard, my throat dry. “Olivia… she’s pregnant.”Crystal froze. For a second she seemed like she wasn't breathing. Then she tilted her head, almost like she was trying to figure out if I was serious. “You… you should be happy then, right? Isn’t that what you always wanted from her? For years you prayed she would give you a child.”I shook my head fast, anger sparking in my chest. “No. Not anymore. You don’
CHAPTER 132: THE DOMEVENUS:I don’t know how long I was out, but the next thing I felt was a rough tap on my shoulder.“Hey, miss… wake up.”My eyes snapped open. Two men in black uniforms with the mall’s logo stood over me, flashlights aimed at my face. My heart jumped into my throat. For a second, I thought Maxim had sent them.I pushed myself up from the bench, rubbing my eyes. “What… what is it?”One of them crossed his arms. “We should be the ones asking that. What are you doing here, sleeping in the open like this?”“I…” My throat tightened. Lying wouldn’t help. “I don’t have a place to stay.”They exchanged a quick look.“Are you homeless?” the taller one asked.I nodded slowly, hugging the paper bag with the money tight against my chest. “Yeah. Just for now. I just… I need somewhere to sleep. Please, I’m not causing trouble.”The shorter one squatted a little, his flashlight dimming. “Where are you from?”“Far from here.” My voice cracked. “I don’t wanna talk about it.”He si
CHAPTER 131: OLIVIA IS PREGNANT MAXIM:“Take her to the pack clinic,” I had said to Conrad last night after he had informed me that Olivia was unconscious. I had better things to worry about than worrying about someone who has caused so much pain.I paced my office, my room, even the damn hallways. Every time I shut my eyes, I saw Venus’s face. I saw her eyes when she begged me to believe her. And then her back as she ran.I went out more than once, shifting into my wolf, sniffing the borders, praying I’d catch even the faintest trace of her scent. But nothing. Just cold air and my own damn guilt choking me.By morning, I looked like hell, but I didn’t care. I had one more thing to take care of before anything else—Olivia. Conrad had said she was out cold last night. I hadn’t bothered to check, too wound up in my own mess. But today, I needed answers. The walk to the clinic was quiet except for the sound of my angry feet hitting the gravel. A few pack members I passed bowed their hea
CHAPTER130: THE STRANGER’S KINDNESSVENUS:I hugged my knees tighter to my chest, my entire body trembling as the rain poured down in sheets. My hair was plastered to my face, my clothes heavy and damp, sticking to my skin. The smell of gasoline from the abandoned station mixed with the earthy scent of wet asphalt, and every little sound out there felt like danger lurking. The moment I saw headlights earlier, my heart had stopped. I hid behind the wall and peeped but when the car stopped in front of the gas station and the driver stepped out, I knew I had to change my hiding position. So I pressed myself flat against the ground, crawling behind a half-fallen metal sign and broken crates. My fingers dug into the mud as I held my breath. The man had stepped out of the car, his boots crunching against the gravel as he circled around.“There’s no way Venus will be out here…” he muttered under his breath. “But I still have to check.”I didn’t move. I held myself from even breathing loudly.
CHAPTER 129: DESPERATE FOR VENUS MAXIM:The first drop of rain hit my window like a taunt from the heavens. By the time I looked outside, the sky had already opened up, releasing heavy drops of water that poured down on the roofs and pounded the earth below. My chest tightened instantly.Venus… where are you?I sat up from my chair, still feeling very regretful about everything that has happened. Crystal’s words haunted me. The pictures…were all AI-generated. And the stranger who claimed that Venus was his lover was paid to do so I had accused Venus of something she never did. I had looked into her eyes, the eyes of the woman who had given me nothing but loyalty, and I had chosen to believe a deception instead. Now she was out there, alone, hurt, betrayed, and in the middle of a storm.“No,” I muttered, shaking my head violently. “I can’t just sit here.”I stormed out of my study and into the hallway. Several of my guards straightened the moment they saw me.“Alpha?” one of them a
