CHAPTER 34: WHERE'S THE FLASH DRIVE?

VENUS:

I hid in a corner and waited until those men in black suits were out of sight before I took off and ran back to the pack house.

It was a long distance yet I ran all the way home. I was panting by the time I got back.

“Venus, where have you been?”

It was Mira and I didn't bother to answer her. I was still upset with her for telling on me. I know she denied doing it but who else could have told Maxine? Mira was the only person who knew about the contraceptive in the pack.

I just ignored her as she picked some eggs from the poultry at the back of the pack house.

I didn't bother going back to the mansion. Working for two straight days without food was pure cruelty and I was too weak to continue. I know I had been offered a bar of chocolate and some water at the cyber cafe but it wasn't nearly enough.

Besides, I needed to rest after all the walking I had done today.

I headed straight to the maids quarters and pushed open the creaky wooden door

CHAPTER 35: THAT'S WHAT YOU DESERVE MAXINE:The second I let go of Venus, watching her fall to the floor coughing and clutching her throat, something twisted in my chest. I didn't feel guilty for choking her but my wolf was restless, growling in my head. No one has ever stood up to me the way Venus has done. That girl has got fire. I was Alpha yet she snapped at me like I was a nobody. I had to do what needed to be done to maintain order. But the look in her eyes...Damn it."You have thirty minutes," I told her, my voice as sharp as it could get, and devoid of emotion. "Bring the flash drive to my office or you won't like what happens next."Her gaze narrowed, but she didn’t argue. I slammed the door behind me before I could second-guess myself.By the time I got to my office, I was pacing like a caged beast. My wolf was restless. Agitated. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her face. Her eyes. Her defiance. The way she dared to challenge me, even when she was at her weakest. Most

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    THE FLASH DRIVE

CHAPTER 33: THE FLASH DRIVE VENUS:I woke up at 4:am the following morning as Clara had instructed and headed to the alpha mansion. My night had been filled with nightmares of Maxine trying to kill me. And I woke up feeling totally exhausted. Yet I had to clean the entire two storey mansion.I worked all day, cleaning the ceilings and the rails, scrubbing the marble floors, arranging the books in the library according to their sizes and so many other chores that drained me of my strength. Yet no one offered me a morsel of bread. At the end of the day, I went to bed hungry.Today was my second day scrubbing floors and polishing stair rails without a single morsel of food.My stomach growled again, and it was louder this time. It was a painful reminder that I hadn't eaten in almost two days. “Ma, please can I have something to eat,” I had said to Clara around noon. But she just waved me off.“No one can give you food unless Alpha Maxine approves it, and since he had gone on a trip, I

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    SOUNDS LIKE YOUR WOLF LIKES HER

CHAPTER 32: SOUNDS LIKE YOUR WOLF LIKES HER MAXINE:I leaned back in the leather seat of the guest suite offered to me in Alpha Grayson’s mansion, and tapped my fingers against the armrest as I stared at nothing in particular. The fireplace crackled to my right, making the room warm and cosy, but I couldn’t focus on anything except the dull ache in my chest. My wolf had been pacing since last night—restless, growling, angry, and confused.Venus.Her name rang in my head like a war drum.I’d been replaying the moment in the hallway over and over again—how she’d looked when she stepped out of Olivia’s room. Her face was taut with fury, her body rigid, eyes flashing with a wild light I hadn’t seen in her before. And then she bumped into me—literally—and didn’t cower. That girl had fire. She should’ve crumbled by now.She should’ve begged again, tried to manipulate me. Instead, she stood up to Olivia and left without saying a word to me. The fire in her blood... damn it, it pulled at s

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    I TAKE ORDERS FROM THE ALPHA NOT YOU

CHAPTER 31: I TAKE ORDERS FROM THE ALPHA NOT YOUVENUS:Jenna and I sat on some stools in the common room, and started to talk. I was just trying to make a new friend since Mira, the only person I had considered a friend in this pack, betrayed me.Clara, the middle aged woman who had shown me to my new room earlier, came back and told me I was wanted at Olivia's room.Clara was Gamma's mate and oversaw everything that has to do with the maids."Venus," she said curtly, arms folded over her chest. "You're wanted upstairs. In Olivia's room."Of course.I knew this was coming. Olivia wouldn’t wait long. Not with the power she suddenly had and the spotlight she had stolen. I had been dethroned and exiled from the Alpha's mansion. And Olivia had stepped right into my old shoes. Now she felt it was time to crush me under her heel.Still, I forced a nod. "Okay. Thank you, ma’am."Jenna looked up from where she sat, her brow creased with concern. "You okay?"I gave her a tired smile, and nod

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    STRIPPED DOWN

CHAPTER 30: STRIPPED DOWNVENUS:I was shaking and couldn’t breathe properly by the time I left Maxine's office. My throat burned from holding in the sobs, and my vision blurred with tears. I was lost in thought and wasn't paying attention to where I was going until I bumped into a wall in the hallway. My mind went blank as I saw stars. Then the world seemed to be spinning. I felt dizzy with hurt, betrayal, and disbelief.I thought he’d at least listen to me. I thought he’d see the fear in my eyes, hear the crack in my voice, and know that I didn’t do it out of malice. But no.The Alpha has cast me aside like the slave I truly was. And worst of all, Mira betrayed me. How could she stab me in the back? I had considered her as a friend yet she ratted me out like that.I rubbed my forehead with my palms and tried to move on but there she was, Olivia, standing in my front.“How has the mighty fallen,” she sneered and clapped her hands on my face. “Shame on you, you idiot. If you had any

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    YOU OUGHT TO DIE

CHAPTER 29: YOU OUGHT TO DIE VENUS:I was going through some documents and reviewing some alliance proposals on my desk in preparation for my trip when Conrad's voice sliced through my thoughts via the mind link."Alpha, I found out something you’re not going to like.”“What?”“Venus bought contraceptive pills a few days ago. I had someone tail her and Mira when they went for a walk. The pharmacy attendant confirmed it."I stopped writing."Are you certain?" I asked coldly."I heard it from Dave, the Gamma’s son I sent to tail them. She confessed it to Mira. Thought you should know before she plays more games.""Summon her to my office," I said aloud, my voice cold and calm, the kind of calm that came before a storm.Minutes later, I heard someone knocking at the door tentatively."Come in," I said without looking up.I heard the door creak open, followed by hesitant footsteps. Her scent reached me before her voice did."You sent for me, Alpha?"I raised my gaze slowly and stared at

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    THE TRUTH IS OUT

CHAPTER 28: THE TRUTH IS OUT VENUS:As I walked back down the hallway, after obtaining permission from Maxine to go on a walk with Mira, Olivia stood in my way, with her hands on her waist. Was she looking for a fight? She stepped into my path like some self-appointed guardian of authority. Her chin was lifted high, and she wore that irritating smirk on her lips."Where do you think you're going?" she asked, voice sharp as a whip.I didn’t flinch. "Out. To get some air. With Mira."She scoffed. "Not until you acknowledge me properly. Call me Luna."I narrowed my eyes. "You’re not the Luna. You don’t deserve that title."“Yes I do. The fact that I'm not crowned yet doesn't mean I'm not the future Luna,” she responded proudly.I put my hands on my waist and looked her square in the eyes. “If you have even the slightest future here, then I wouldn't be here.”She laughed and clapped her hands in my face. “You're delusional, Venus. So you think you have a future here? Maxine bought you b

  • THE RUTHLESS ALPHA'S HUMAN SURROGATE    I'M GOING ON A TRIP

CHAPTER 27: I'M GOING ON A TRIP MAXINE: The door to my office suddenly opened just as I scribbled the last note on the document spread out before me. I didn’t bother to look up. Only one person had the audacity to barge in without knocking."Conrad, ever heard of a thing called knocking?" I muttered, still holding the pen.He chuckled, without looking remorseful. "I can't be knocking at your office door, Alpha. You do nothing in this office but go through files and make strategies. It's not like it's your private bedroom.”I glared at him. “Really? What if I'm having fun here with one of my women?”“Nah, you wouldn't do that.” He strolled in and slumped into the leather chair opposite mine. "Doors are overrated. It only slows you down.""You always have an excuse for not learning some manners," I said dryly. “I don't need to learn manners to play my role as an effective Beta.” He leaned forward. “Have you touched your breeder yet?”“How's that your business? Are you planning to hel
