Chapter 06.

THE ENDGAME.

Clary's POV.

As I stood upright and turned back to face the people behind me, I noticed that some of them turned their faces away from me. But I cared less if they saw what I did or not. All that mattered was that I'd given him a taste of his own medicine for squeezing my butt the previous day.

Actually, I wanted to return to clear his table because for all I cared, he was done drinking. However, as I attempted to take a step from where I stood, I heard the sound of sirens wailing from a distance.

“Of course, one of you must have called the cops.” I said, muttering the words under my breath as I swept my eyes all over the place.

I wasn't looking for the person who must have called the cops. If anything, he only did that out of fear and concern that I might eventually hurt the man beyond what I did. And trust me, I don't blame whoever it was.

Nonetheless, I spotted a man sitting close to the window. It was as if he was trying to look in my direction, but each

Chapter 57.A LISTENING EAR.Clary's POV.With tears in my eyes, I glanced at the door for a few seconds and then dropped my gaze. Leaving her office didn't seem like a good option. In fact, it was never an option to begin with. If I wanted to graduate, and if I wanted to do so with good grades, then I knew that I had to open up to her. If anything, I'd come too far to spend an extra year in school. With that thought in mind, I turned to face her.“Have you taken a decision now?” she asked, with a raised brow. “If so, tell me.” “Things have not been going well with me lately.” I said, blinking back tears. “There is no help from anywhere; it's just me who's been taking care of myself.” “What about your parents?” she asked, narrowing her gaze at the words as she leaned forward and clasped her hands on her desk. “Where are they? Are they dead or separated?” “No, that's not the case.” I said, wiping my face with the back of my hand. “They just don't have enough to support me, and I do

Chapter 56.BACK TO SCHOOL.Clary's POV. Plodding through the hallway with my face buried in my hair, I heard the sounds of footsteps approaching. As I lifted my gaze, it happened to be Gracie. Upon seeing me, she paused. Meanwhile, I exhaled sharply and walked up to her.“I, uh,” I started, searching for the right words. “I wanted to apologize to you for what happened last night. I didn't mean to raise my voice at you. I was just…” “You don't have to apologize.” she said, with a brief smile. “Although, I have no idea what happened, but you don't have to apologize. I can understand. Just take your time to get through whatever it is.” “I am sorry.” I said, with an apologetic look in my eyes. “I wasn't just in the right frame of mind.” “I can understand.” she said, in a soft voice. “So like I said, you don't have to apologize to me.” “Are you sure?” I asked.I wanted to be sure that she really understood, and she didn't just say those words to me so that I wouldn't talk about it an

Chapter 55.BREATHING SCARS.Clary's POV.Gracie fell silent for a few seconds. Trust me, I saw that coming. I'd only asked to pass the night at her place some minutes ago. And then minutes later, I asked if I could stay at her place for a few days. I would react the same if were in her shoes.Obviously, I wasn't expecting that she would give me a response right away. Regardless of what she would say, I didn't think she would give me a reply immediately. Allowing me to stay for a few days meant that she was ready to accommodate the inconveniences it would bring her. And if she rejected, then I wouldn't blame her. I mean, allowing me pass the night was more than enough. I doubt if I would do the same for her. “You really don't have to give me an answer now.” I said, sensing the discomfort it brought to her. “You can take your time to think about it. However, while thinking about it, just make sure you look in all directions.” As I said those words, she narrowed her gaze. However, I

Chapter 54.LET'S HAVE THAT TALK! Clary's POV.“Goodbye mom.” Gracie said, exchanging kisses with her mom on the face. “We will talk some other time.” “Of course, we will.” her mom said, and then exited the house.“Finally, I can breathe.” she sighed and shut the door. Then she turned around and walked back to the sitting room with a smile on her face. It was obvious that she wanted them both out of the house. And she'd finally gotten what she wanted. However, the damage done would take a few weeks, or perhaps a few months to recover from. Although, her mother left the house not quite long, but her father did about an hour ago. Something urgent came up, so he'd to report back to duty. He was a sheriff and the matter seemed urgent. He'd actually requested for the case to be handled by his subordinate. However, the issue required his attention. And for that reason, he had to leave. “They just wouldn't let me be.” she said, and settled on the couch across the room. “Now take a look

Chapter 53.A FRIEND IN NEED.Clary's POV.“Where are we?” Hayley asked, staring at the container house in front of us.She closed the door of the car, and took some steps forward to get a closer look. Getting out of the car, I closed the door and took some steps forward too. I didn't have much of a choice. Although, I should have taken her to my house, but I had to bring her to Gracie's because I didn't want to start an argument with Mrs Williams. She'd made it clear that she wouldn't release the keys to my apartment unless I paid every dime I owed her. Besides, it was late already, and I couldn't put her through such stress. She has had a long day; we both have. And the only thing I wanted to do at that point was just to crash on the bed, or sofa and get a good sleep. “Where is this place?” she asked, turning to face me with a raised brow. “Where are we?” “Uh, this is my friend's place.” I said, exhaling sharply. “We can pass the night here.” If anything, I felt bad for coming

Chapter 52.A MOMENT OF TRUTH.Clary's POV.“Is there something wrong?” I asked, taking my eyes off the road for a few seconds, as I turned to face Hayley. “If there's something bothering you, then why don't you say it already?” She'd been staring at me the whole time. I mean, I could feel her gaze boring into my face. However, I decided not to say a word about it, thinking that she would eventually speak say something. But then, she didn't.Instead, she kept looking at me with those eyes. You know, those eyes that made it obvious that she was mad at me for reasons that I didn't know of. If she was mad at me because of the way I pulled her back there, then all she had to do was say it and not look at me with those eyes that made my skin crawl. Not only that, but it also made me feel like I'd done something bad to her. “Aren't you going to say anything?” I asked, raising a brow. “Look if this is about what happened earlier, then I'm sorry. However, I had my reasons. I was in danger
