The air in the vicinity of Brunschière became denser by the second, clotting with a crushing sense of foreboding. It seemed like the earth itself was being strangled by something intangible, something ancient and evil. The mountains, previously stern and imposing in their faraway grandeur, now seemed like they were buckling under the burden of the advancing dark magic, their razor-sharp edges softened by an otherworldly haze. The sky itself seemed to fold in, folding in over the world, encasing it in an unending nightmare.

Krishna's own breath caught in her throat as the beat of black energy became harder. Her knuckles were white where she clutched the balcony railing. It's him. Vosvak.

The dark power that once swept the Citadel as a devouring tide now beckoned to her, its influence tugging at her like an unstoppable tide. A sickening certainty coiled in her belly.

"Ignatius," she breathed, the words just escaping her mouth. "He's alive. Vosvak is alive."

Before Ignatius could answer,

the malevolence of Vosvak's power. The words rang in their heads like a death knell, echoing off the walls of the Citadel and burrowing into their very souls.Kaelen could feel the freezing, crushing grip of fear wrap itself around his chest tighter. He dared not look back he couldn't. The burden of what had happened was too much to bear. Vosvak's maniacal laughter shook, a dark music filling the room. And for one frozen moment of horror, Kaelen imagined the Citadel disintegrating into nothing, consumed by the darkness that now trickled from the very seams of the world. But he couldn't he wouldn't allow that to occur. Not as long as Miyal was around. Not as long as there was hope. The Bloodstone was their last hope. The relic of unimaginable power had been used to imprison Vosvak himself, yet would it still be effective now? Would it hold fast the ancient evil that had so willingly escaped? Kaelen's heart pounded in his ears, the doubt gnawing at him as he ran toward the crypts.Meanw

Kaelen's breathing was light, his heart racing as he stepped out of the Citadel's inner corridors. He had not even reached the door before a presence, heavy with power and fear, stopped him in his footsteps. The Elders. The cluster of gray-haired, combat-hardened leaders stood before him, their faces stern and etched with the lines of decades spent wielding power. They were a unspoken, menacing presence. Their presence alone was oppressive, as though the air about them carried a millennium's secret. The oldest of the lot, Elder Varel, advanced, his face tense with unspoken restraint."Kaelen," Varel's voice broke through the charged atmosphere, hard but soft. "The Alpha awaits you in his chambers. You must go back there immediately. There is no time to waste."Kaelen's neck hairs stood on end. His heart missed a beat. He had craved a moment's respite an ounce of time to breathe. But now there was no time to waste. The chains aren't sufficient," Kaelen exclaimed, his words rushing out

The door to Miyal's chambers slowly swung open, the merest creak cutting through the thick, gagging tension. His friend, a fellow by the name of Kaelen, stepped inside the room, his features fixed in a stern expression of worry. The air was filled with raw magic, foul and gagging, and he knew immediately something was amiss."My Alpha, what is it?" Kaelen's voice was low, full of incredulity as he regarded Miyal. The firm figure now slumped against the ground, pale face, sweat-dotted forehead, and his usual strength and composure replaced with an unmistakable air of pain.Miyal's body was shaking with the effort, every muscle in his frame contorted in an attempt to resist the force that was trying to break him. His bloodshot, wide eyes hovered on the edge of rage and terror as he stared up at Kaelen. His palms were pressed over his temples, as if to struggle against the darkness shredding his mind.Don't come near me," Miyal snarled, his anger trembling his voice. "Get the artifact th

Since the time Miyal had stepped into the seat of Alpha, Vosvak had known. He had sensed the weak point, the crack in the spine of the Citadel's power. And now the crack had opened wide.Miyal's body writhed furiously, once-proud Alpha of the Citadel now nothing more than a puppet, a shell for something far older and stronger. His shaking hands, clawing to maintain their grip, finally released as his body slumped forward, as if surrendering to destiny."I am Vosvak, and you are but a shell."It was with these words that the last shreds of Miyal's will were shattered, and there was naught but nothingness behind. The elders, shocked and powerless to stop what was occurring before them, could only stand in shock. The Citadel was lost to them. It had been lost to the ancient evil, and there was no turning back. And with that, the last shreds of Miyal's will were shattered, and nothing remained but darkness behind. The elders, horrified and powerless to stop what was being lost before thei

Inside the throne room, the high council huddled in uncomfortable silence, their faces gloomy, their voices subdued. They had witnessed the demise of their mighty leader first. Miyal's rule, a beacon of hope once, had been tainted by the dark magic, and now he was nothing more than a puppet, a vessel for the same evil that had destroyed Perfera Spade.A senior adviser, his face white and sweating, stood before the council, trembling as he brought them the latest word. His voice trembled.“The Citadel is falling, Lord Minister,” he said, his eyes darting nervously around the room. “We’ve lost contact with the outer walls. The soldiers sent to secure the perimeter report that the land surrounding the Citadel is rotting. The very earth itself is decaying. We’ve seen shadows unnatural shadows creeping along the walls.”One of the councillors, his hands shaking, rose. "And what about Miyal? Has anyone seen him? Is he actually changed? The advisor hesitated, his voice barely above a whisper
