"Yes."

Ignatius's shoulders slumped.

Krishna moved forward, shoving the ring into the hollow of his palm.

"But I love you too, differently. And I need you, Ignatius. I need you to be the shield at the small of my back. Not the chain at my ankles."

He folded his fingers over the ring.

Swallowed hard.

If you leave, he said, you may not return.

"I know."

"If she kills you again."

"She won't," Krishna answered, his tone solid. "Because this time, I'm not afraid to burn with her."

Ignatius shut his eyes.

Then—

"What do you want me to do?"

She smiled through the tears.

"Call the old magic. Rally what's left of the shadow guard. Initiate Brunschière's defenses. If Perfera turns back. they'll require a guardian."

The clearing shook with silence.

Mist wrapped around like phantoms among the trees, attracted by the sorcery growing in Krishna's veins. Bitterness had shrouded itself over the air—salted with despair.

You're certain?" he growled.Eshra coughed, crimson flecks smattering the salt. "I dreamed her."Amiel turned his bruised face to them, fighting to lift his head. "Not a dream. A summons."A hush descended on the pit. Thick. Holy."The moon seal." Amiel stated, dry, cracked lips, "it glowed when we blooded for her. It accepted the offering. That's never happened since Luna Krishna disappeared. Something. awakened.".Rythe clenched his teeth and sat up along the wall. "Then why hasn't she arrived yet?"Eshra glanced at the slice of blue that revealed itself through the rusty grates high above."Because she waits," she replied to him. "She waits until the tide changes. And it is changing."The ground shook. There was a distant rumble in the pit—distant, but not natural. It wasn't plague. It was older. As if the bones of the Citadel were shifting their alignment.Somewhere over her, well beyond the reach of the tower and further in among Brunschière's woods, movement caught her eye.Outs

An hour after Perfera's orderThe sky above the Citadel was shrouded in a cloud of gray ash, no sun, no moon—only the black spiral of ritual smoke that curled from the tower. On the ground, the central square had been emptied, its markets and temples silenced. The citizens had been compelled to assemble, herded like lambs before a wolf's altar. And Perfera stood on obsidian steps, dressed in midnight silk, with silver chains dangling from her wrists like talons unlatched.Behind her knelt Eshra, Amiel, and Rythe, bound, bleeding, and shorn of their ceremonial robes.A murmur ran through the crowd as her voice thundered across the square."These are your elders," she started, voice dripping with contempt. "The guardians of law. The tellers of legacy. The wise."She waited. Then:"But today, they are traitors."Gasps. Murmurs. Silence again.Amiel lifted his head, blood staining the edge of his mouth. "We only served the moon, not your shadow."Perfera spun slowly."Is that what you thi

Beneath the Citadel – The Forgotten SanctumThe flames in the hearth sputtered low, sending long shadows writhing across the stone room. Dust clung heavy in the air, undisturbed for decades until tonight. This sanctum, once the ceremonial chamber of the first Crescent Moon Alphas, had been no more than a myth spoken by apprentices and scholars. Forgotten by the majority—except by the oldest of the old.And tonight, it pulsed with restless life.Five robed elders fell to their knees in a circle, the seal of the Old Moon etched beneath them in pale silver ash. Their hands were folded together, their voices low. Not incantations—yet—but prayers. Pleas. Bargains in fear, whispered. "She's weighing the balance," breathed Elder Rythe, his voice dry and cracked with age. "Perfera has violated the sacred pact. She nourishes the plague. Nourishes it."Older Amiel, the youngest of them but already greying at the temples, set his jaw. "She sullies what it was to be Luna. She's bound Miyal like

The massive door groaned open, letting a dark shadow fall within the poorly lit room. The atmosphere in there was suffocating with the burden of the choice, suffocating with the density of what they had just rendered themselves to do. The elders remained motionless in their rocky immobility, the burden of their choices loomed over them like Damocles' sword. But beyond the chamber, in the darkness cast by the rotten walls of the Citadel, a figure waited—a silent, shapeless figure that listened with eternally vigilant ears. A figure wrapped in the same darkness that enveloped the Citadel, eyes drawn in, ears flared to catch every stolen word spoken. One of Perfera's spies, a ghost among ghosts, had overheard the clandestine conference. And. Then. It was. He was dashing down the endless halls, his feet light and fast, his heart racing with fear. He had to reach her before they did. Before it could be pillaged. Perfera would have to be informed. She had to be informed.Within the throne c

One of the elderly men, shaking with his voice, had the courage to say something. "The plague already kills us all. How much more do you intend to ruin?"Perfera's eyes had been cold. "You'll see," she told them. "You'll all see. And then, you'll regret that you doubted me."And as she left the room, her voice seemed to echo through the space, heavy with venomous assurance. "This is my domain now. My father will be released from his bondage. Soon, we will own here, and there will be no one left to stand between us and our possession."The door closed behind her, and the elders were left in a heavy, oppressive silence."We're out of time," the oldest elder whispered, his pale face lit up. "Perfera has completely lost herself to the dark magic. We underestimated her power. But we still can. If we can. if we can prevent the ceremony she's conducting from taking place, then maybe we can salvage what's left of this land.""But how?" Her voice was no more than a whisper. "How are we going t
