THE VIRGINITY TEST

The house was so tense that evening.

What if mom had caught me masturbating earlier that day? Probably she would have had serious high blood pressure.

Rain was in a bad mood and had nothing to say to me all through the evening.

“Don’t tell me you’re crying.” I raised her face, and she was crying. I had to hug her again.

We both sat on the bed.

“Rain, this is not the time to be crying. You’re an adult, and adults do stuff.”

“Mommy is hurt because of me.”

“You shouldn’t say that. She will be fine; she just didn’t expect that.”

“That’s the point, she wasn’t supposed to hear it.”

“So are you going to erase what happened?”

She paused and didn’t say anything.

“No words?” I asked.

She looked at me.

“Look, I think it’s fine she found out. With time, she will be fine with it.”

“Come on, Zoe, not like this. I know you don’t care what anyone thinks about you, this is me.”

“And… how did we get here?”

“I’m sorry, that didn’t come out well.”

“Yeah, it’s fine.”

My mom and Rain know me to be that mean girl, and I love it that way. I can’t be soft-hearted and take anything that is being thrown at me.

“I should be in my room. Goodnight.”

“Yeah,”

She left. Trust me, I wasn’t angry, nor did I ask her to leave my room.

I went back to pressing my phone and stalking my crush on I***a.

Ping!

A notification pops up, and that’s my girl, Daisy.

“Baby, I miss you, there’s a party, are you in?”

“Sure, girl, I miss you too. When is the party?”

“Tomorrow, 10:00 pm till dawn,” she replied.

“My sister and I are grounded.”

She sent a laughing emoji. “At your age?”

“Babe, it’s not funny.”

“Fuck that, you can sneak out, your sis should cover for you.”

And there she goes, the bad egg, always bringing up tricky ideas, and I love it.

“Okay, cool, I will talk to her.”

“Look hot, will stop by to pick you up. Danny is coming too.”

That’s her boyfriend.

“Sure, girl, see you.”

I dropped my phone and went to sleep.

The next morning, mommy woke us up by screaming our names; that’s usually unlike her.

“Zoe!!”

“Rain!!”

“You girls should come here now!!” She screamed at the top of her voice.

I quickly rushed out of my room, and Rain was already out.

“Get ready, we’re going to the hospital.”

“Hospital???” Rain and I asked immediately.

“You heard me, you have 15 mins,” she said and left for her room.

My sister and I looked at each other in confusion, making a face of, “What exactly is going on?”

“You should go get ready,” I told Rain.

“Yeah, you too.”

After bathing, I wore jean shorts and a white shirt, crossed my bag. Rain was putting on one of her backless gowns.

“This is not a fashion show, I don’t know why you girls are dressed like this.”

I didn’t say a word, same as my sister.

“To the car, I'm coming.”

I haven't seen my mom this mean since she gave birth to me; it’s just awkward.

We drove off, and mom mentioned that we were going to get a virginity test; she needs to be sure we are still intact.

While she was making enquiries and getting the hospital card, I quickly told Rain about my plans of leaving the house for a party.

She objected, but I didn’t take it seriously. I gave her until evening to play along.

Mom was standing, staring at us strangely; I just tried to avoid eye contact with her.

“Rain??”

A doctor came out calling her name; she waved her hand.

“Follow me,” he said.

She followed him to run the test. She was the first person.

She didn’t waste time; she came out.

The doctor called, and I followed him immediately.

“Don’t be scared, you’re going to pull off your clothes, just your jeans and your pants.”

“Why is that?” I asked curiously.

“Don’t be scared, that’s how I can examine you.”

“Okay.”

I pulled off my jeans and lay on a bed.

He brought out a long thing that looks like a pen, connected to a machine that reads results.

Immediately it touched my vagina, I felt a thing and made a sound.

I didn’t say anything.

“Should I?” he asked.

I didn’t get the question, but I nodded.
