Chapter 6

Alexandra's pov

The sound of him hanging up echoed in the car for a few seconds before I finally let the phone slowly slide down my ear, staring into space.

Penelope. That name sounded so familiar yet so foreign in my ears. It's like I've heard about it before. But had it really been my name?

The same sick feeling rose up in my stomach and before I could stop myself, I pushed my car door wide open and threw my head out, puking so hard my stomach hurt and tears grew in my eyes.

As I was wiping my lips, I turned on my ignition and began speeding to my grandpa's place.

Mum was yet to call, so I called back and the fake, high pitched laughter of those fake bitches she called her friends caused me to roll my eyes.

"Oh sweetheart. Is something wrong?"

"We literally spoke a few minutes ago." I reminded her, growing angry by the second. She wasn't even taking this seriously. I badly wanted to lash out at her, but she could hang up on me and I didn't want that because I really needed her right now.

"Ohh… that? Sweetheart, I forgot, but Nurse Aisha is always at Grandpas at this time, she's certainly there." She did even sound bothered.

"But mum…"

"And I called your grandpa and she picked up. She said he was well and was responding to treatment. You were just delulu."

All the blood left on my face drained away and I felt my hand trembling.

"When did you call her?"

"After you called. Sweetheart, are you sure you're okay??"

I quickly hanged up and stepped on the pedals, cursing as I knew I'd be at his place sooner If I didn't come out for this stupid lunch date.

Remembering Adrian and the look in his face when he looked at something on his phone I couldn't help but wonder what he had seen.

Brushing the thoughts off my mind, I parked my car right In front of my grandpa's mansion and burst right out, running in.

The scene I met was horrifying. My grandpa's guards at the gate were lying face first on the floor; soaked in a pool of their own blood, and the gate was left wide open.

My breathing was short and rapsy as each time I passed and flung doors open leading to his chamber, I met dead guards, maids and his cooks lying all around in a pool of their own blood, but they had all been killed the same way, a fine round hole on their forehead where the bullet had probably gone through.

My heels echoed in the halls as I ran up the steps.

"Grandpa?!" I screamed again, my grip on the railing tightening as I ran up faster, feeling my heart drop to my stomach when I followed a trace of blood to grandpa's room.

As I got there, the next second, I swayed weakly and found my knees to the ground. I sat there on my knees, helpless, my heart in the pit on my stomach as I watched my grandpa dead, hanged on the wall by a rope dangling from the ceiling.

His body was swaying slowly, a pool of his blood on the ground below his corpse, and that wasn't even the horrifying part.

His head.

It was missing.

Without thinking, I screamed as loud as I can, letting all my anger and frustration out, feeling my tears running down my cheeks.

A ping on my phone got me grinding my teeth as I knew who It was from.

'Do you like the surprise? You've always loved surprises.'

Without thinking, I called the number and almost immediately, the bastard picked up.

"You bastard! You conceited devil. I promise you, I will find you and when I do, I will make you go through a punishment so bad you'll be begging to be killed. You'll regret this."

He chuckled again and I got so angry, I felt my insides boiling. I could strangle him to death.

"Then you have your chance. Find me. Infact, I'll leave a hint of where you can start. I'll be one of the guests attending your wedding to Mr. Sinclair."

I gritted my teeth angrily, noting the mockery In his voice.

"You're dead." I said with a lethal voice and With that I hung up. Once I did, I suddenly heard a bang in the wardrobe coming from the end of the room.

With narrowed eyes, I slowly got up and approached the wardrobe. It was like someone was trapped in there and was trying to get out. I couldn't be sure, so I grabbed one of the legs of a chair which had broken- probably in the midst of a struggle and I approached the moving wardrobe, breathing hard.

Without thinking, I threw the door open and raised the stick to hit down whoever it was but I froze on hearing a muffled cry.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked down to see Nurse Aisha sitting curled up like a ball with her feet and hands tied behind her and a cloth inside her mouth.

Her wide brown eyes met mine before she began saying something again which sounded muffled.

I reached down and pulled the cloth out before leaning back to hear what she had to say.

"Miss Bennett! Thank Goodness you're here. There was a man here earlier. He was… "

"Did you see him?" My voice was cold and emotionless and I asked her. There was no point hearing what I had done.

"No. He was in a mask." She shook her head.

"Nothing? Not even the color of his hair? Body build? Height? You have nothing at all?" I couldn't hide the disappointment in my voice.

"I couldn't see anything at all, but… " at the word 'but', a gleam of hope shone in my eyes as I turned to her. "When he had placed me in here, I bit him hard on his left hand, so there was a deep bite mark there before he had stuffed the clothing in my mouth."

It wasn't much but It was as least useful. Even If It would take all day looking at all the men's left hand at my wedding, I would do so without a doubt.

My grandpa's death must be avenged and I must get to the bottom of all these. Something wasn't right and I felt like grandpa dying was only just the beginning.
