Chapter 7

Alexandra's pov

The siren of the police cars littered around my grandpa's - late grandpa's compound drowned down the sound of the ambulance siren leading my grandpa's headless body to the morgue.

I was just standing there, my clothes covered in blood from when I had dropped to my knees earlier on seeing my beheaded grandpa from the ceiling, my hair was pulled back from my face in a rough ponytail and I had a blank expression on my face as I stared at the stretcher which the medical staff pulled out with the dead guards and workers lying on every one of them, a white sheet spread atop their corpse.

The cops were presently interrogating Nurse Aisha who looked a bit intimidated as they kept demanding one question or the other. Without a doubt, I knew she would still be taken for questioning at the station.

She was the only witness to the murder of one of the largest, popular, well known tycoon and ex-owner of Liss Real Estate- so It was a big deal.

An hour ago, when I was certain this place would be flooded with cops, detectives, ambulances and the media, I had called Nurse Aisha aside just before we called 911.

"The cops are going to pull you aside for questioning. Don't hold back anything, do you understand me?" I had warned her.

"Yes Miss."

"But no one should know you bit him. Don't inform anyone of that ordeal… " When she looked like she wanted to say something, I tore out something from my cheque book and pushed a cheque to her chest after scribbling something on it. When she looked at it, her eyes grew wide as her mouth. "1 million dollars. Don't say a word about that to anybody."

She had solemnly nodded, a gleam of happiness and surprise in her eyes.

BACK TO THE PRESENT…

I suddenly felt a prescence between me and stiffened when the familiar scent of my mother's cologne wafted through my nostrils.

"Glad you finally decided to actually care for once," I turned towards her with a bitter smile on my face. The dried tear marks on her face disgusted me. "Or did you just come here to send your condolences because you knew the paparazzi would be here?"

"Sweetheart, he was my father. I loved him too. Why are you talking like this?"

I knew my father was running for Vice president of the country in a few months time, and while he was preparing his agenda, he wanted to keep an exemplary profile.

I couldn't cause a scene here so I only walked away from her and headed towards my car, Ignoring the blinding lights from the camera. However, just before I was in close range with my car, I was almost mauled by a group of reporters.

I blinked severally as I was almost blinded by the lights which grew brighter, the clicking sound of the cameras echoing in my ears along with the reporters loud voices drowning each other out as they shoved microphones and their phones up my lips, pestering me with questions.

"Miss Bennett, your grandpa was a good man, but why do you think someone would want to kill him?"

"Miss Bennett could you please explain how you knew of your grandpa's predicament even before he was killed?"

"Miss Bennett, why the sudden relationship with Mr. Sinclair?"

"We all know of the long term fuel between the Bennett's and Sinclairs. Do you think getting engaged to Adrian Sinclair changed your life for the better or worse so far?"

"Miss… "

Suddenly, Mrs Bennett quietly motioned for her guards towards her daughter, and as soon as the reporters saw the hefty looking men approaching them with an intimidating aura, they all backed away immediately, swallowing hard with disappointed expressions on their faces.

"It's okay. I can handle these situations by myself." I snapped at the men when they were escorting me to my car like I was blind or something. I was 23 for fuck's sake. I was mostly angry at my mom, so yeah, I made sure I showed her I didn't appreciate a single thing she just did even though I was supposed to. I wanted her to feel bad, but no matter how much I was planning on doing to her, I knew she would never feel the heart crushing pain I was feeling.

The guards just stood there and watched as I got into the car and banged the door before I sped off.

Alone, I finally felt my heart grow heavy again. My vision clouded with tears so many times that I blinked them several times till they rolled down my cheeks.

Grandpa was really dead.

I couldn't blame mum completely because some part of me felt that either way, the stranger would have killed grandpa one way or the other.

But it's the fact that she showed so much disinterest and wasn't In the least worried earlier, but now, she just came into the scene putting on a show and crying like she hadn't been having fancy tea and laughing like a witch with a broom stuck up her butt earlier.

And dad? At that moment I couldn't even think of calling him. He was either in a business meeting, or he could be out of the country at the moment. He always left for abroad like it was our backyard. These days, I rarely get to see him.

If he really becomes Vice president, I wonder If I'll ever get to see him again. I might as well, just be a half orphan. Ha ha

A sudden thought entered my head, and I wondered why Mr. Sinclair A.K.A Alex Sinclair, Adrian's father, wasn't running for any position in the government.

He and dad have always competed to be the top in all categories, but this time he just backed out? No interest In politics much?

Suddenly, I got a notification on my phone and without a thought, I picked it up and glanced through with furrowed brows, wondering if it was the anonymous murder jerk.

I was, however, surprised to see It was a text from Adrian.

Adrian: 'Let's talk'

I Ignored the message. I wasn't really in the mood to talk to anyone , especially not him.

Another beep sent me grinding my teeth in anger. It was another text from him. Should I just block this prude?

Adrian: 'You know, leaving someone message unread is not a pleasing behavior.'

I Ignored him still, this time a smirk on my face, wondering what length he could go to make me reply to him.

I was beginning to get a bit worked up when he didn't send any text after a few minutes and I was already on an empty path way leading down to the street of my house when I received another message.

Adrian: 'Alexandra I'm dying.'
