AVERY'S POV:

I couldn’t keep still. Every nerve in my body vibrated, adrenaline pulsing under my skin. My heart pounded so loudly it practically echoed in the back of the limousine. I kept telling myself to calm down, but that was impossible.

This was it.

All night, I’d gone over the documents Axel left for me. I read every word. Every clause. Every line that spelled out the downfall of my enemies especially Chase. And by morning, my decision was easy.

Now, dressed in the designer outfit Axel had picked out, with diamonds on my wrist and revenge in my heart, I knew exactly how today would end—no matter what the headlines said.

Because the headlines... God, the headlines were a joke.

"Grayson Empire Bounces Back!"

"Astrid Grayson Saves Husband from Ruin!"

"Power Couple of the Year!"

I nearly rolled my eyes.

We pulled up to Grayson Empire’s headquarters. The press swarmed the front entrance. Cameras flashed nonstop. Reporters barked out questions as if Chase was some war he

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & NINETY-TWO: THE EXIT OF A KING AND THE ENTRANCE OF A QUEEN.

AXEL’S POV:For the first time since Ryan’s birthday, every seat at the table was filled — including the one belonging to Altherio. He sat at the far end of the long, hand-carved table, hunched slightly forward, his knuckles resting on polished wood like claws itching to draw blood. His jaw was locked tight, eyes burning straight through me with a rage that hadn’t cooled. If looks could kill, he would’ve strangled me on the spot and dumped my body on this very floor.I didn’t expect him to show. I’d half-wagered that his anger wouldn’t let him step foot into any room I summoned him to. But here he was — breathing heavy like a bull in a ring, nostrils flaring with the kind of hate only betrayal could birth. Or maybe it was just fear, wearing anger’s mask. The room I chose was no ordinary place. It was the kind of place only money and power could rent — discreet, sophisticated, and built like a fortress. Walls lined with floor-to-ceiling dark oak. Heavy crystal lights above us glinting

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & NINETY-ONE: THE DEVIL YOU FORGOT.

AVERY’S POV:The safe house wasn’t just fortified. It was a damn fortress.Metal fences surrounded the entire compound, with motion sensors that were thick and twice the height of a man. Armed guards stood at every entry point, dressed in black and strapped with enough firepower to wage a war. Even the birds seemed cautious here. Automatic rifles. Earpieces. Some had dogs. It wasn’t just a lockdown—it was war-prepped.The gates slid open after a retina scan, and inside, the facility was even more intimidating—razor wire overhead, steel doors, and soundproof walls. No one got out of here without permission. Or at all.We pulled in slowly, and the moment Thaddeus stepped out, two guards flanked the vehicle, weapons lowered but ready. One guard stepped toward me as I opened the door. “You’re not authorized beyond this point, ma’am,” one of them said.I stepped forward, face-to-face with the taller one.“Lead me to Ryan if you want to keep your head where it belongs,” I snapped, stepping

AVERY’S POV: Wilder sat down on the chair opposite mine. “I have a daughter now,” I said softly, still staring at one of the old pictures on the wall. My fingers grazed the frame. “Her name is Sea. Axel’s daughter from his first marriage.” Wilder blinked. “Sea?” “She’s the most incredible little girl I’ve ever met,” I said with a quiet laugh. “So full of light. And love. It’s like she chose me first, before I could even figure myself out.” I turned to him, heart full. “And… I’m pregnant too.” Wilder’s eyes widened. He rose slowly, his mouth falling open. “You’re serious?” he asked, stepping closer like I might disappear again if he didn’t close the distance. “Yes,” I smiled, taking his hand and placing it gently on my stomach. “You’re going to be a grandfather.” He let out a breathless laugh, rubbing my stomach with both palms, the joy practically radiating from him. “A grandfather,” he whispered, then chuckled. “Avery, I—I don’t even have the words. This… this is more than I ever hop

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-NINE: MY FATHER.

AVERY’S POV:We were back in Miami. It wasn’t a choice I made lightly, but I didn’t trust Akira—not anymore. Not with Sea. Not with us.Axel didn’t argue, and that said enough. Now, with the bags unpacked and Axel gone to attend the Dons’ emergency meeting, I was left with a silence that pressed against my chest.Sea had fallen asleep not long after we arrived—curled up, a seashell tucked beneath her arm, her breath steady. I sat beside her for a long moment, just watching. She looked so peaceful. So untouched by the chaos that had swallowed our lives.I leaned down, kissed her forehead, and tucked the covers a little tighter around her. Then I left a note on the nightstand:"Sweetheart, I had to step out for a while. Be good, and I’ll be back before you know it. I love you more than chocolate chip pancakes. —Mom."The sun was barely rising. A soft, burnt-orange hue stretched across the horizon. It was the beginning of the day that could change everything.I’d been trying to ignore th

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-EIGHT: FINAL CALL.

AXEL’S POV:There was something strange about the way Avery was moving—not frantic, not exactly curious either. More like… digging. Her eyes darted across the village, her gaze calculating, lips pursed as if she were putting together pieces of a puzzle no one else could see.She wasn’t just sightseeing. She was hunting for answers. Before I could ask her what was going on, a sudden voice behind us nearly made me jump.“There you are.”Akira’s voice was smooth, calm—too calm. Her sudden appearance made my stomach tighten, but a strange relief followed. As unsettling as her presence sometimes was, she still radiated control. And right now, in this unfamiliar part of the village that seemed to shift and breathe on its own, I welcomed that.We walked up to her slowly.“What took you two so long?” she asked, one brow arched.“We got lost,” I replied with a half-smile. “Took a turn into a bunch of bushes that led us in circles.”She sighed and nodded. “I should’ve guessed. I’m sorry—I shoul

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-SEVEN: SHE HAS A TWIN.

AVERY’S POV:I blinked hard, trying to piece together what had just happened—if it had really happened."What do you mean?" I asked, voice low, confused, my heart still thudding in my chest. The man’s eyes darted nervously, his entire body taut like a rubber band about to snap. His breath was uneven, his mouth trembling as he whispered rapidly."She’s dangerous. I’m the only one not under her spell. Everyone else in Orion... they’ve been hypnotized by her. If you’re not—she’ll kill you."My lips parted, a chill crawling up my spine. “Hypnotized? What are you talking about?”"I’ve been following you for a long time—waiting for the right moment to talk to you. The burial ground, the hospital, the gates of your home... I was always there. You just didn’t see me.""You’ve been following me?" My voice cracked a little, not from fear of him, but from the fear of everything he was implying. Also, I knew that I've been getting that feeling of being followed for a long time."Yes!" he hissed.

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-SIX: YOU CAN'T TRUST HER.

AVERY’S POV:He untangled himself from me in an instant and turned me around to face him, gripping my arms gently but firmly. “Red? Are you sure?”“I mean—” I hesitated. “It was only for a moment. A flash. One blink and they were normal again. She even asked for a reflection, and they were... fine. But I know what I saw.”Axel’s nose scrunched. “I saw it too.”“What?”“At the dining hall. When we entered the room. Her eyes flickered—the same color you described. I thought I was seeing things. Brushed it off. But now...”He trailed off, running a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. “This is too much. We don’t even know if she’s aware. She acts like nothing’s wrong.”“I don’t think she’s faking it. If she is... she’s one hell of an actress.”“I hope not,” he muttered. “Maybe we all have our own issues, one way or another.”Before either of us could say more, Sea’s laughter rang out again. She stood some distance away, waving frantically at us, drenched and beaming.“She’s growing

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-FIVE: RED EYES.

AVERY’S POV:Orion shimmered. Not the old, broken-down version we left behind. This was something else entirely—new, impossibly vibrant. The sky looked bluer. The trees greener. The air cleaner, like it had never tasted bitterness or war.Children ran barefoot along the pathways, laughter trailing behind them like ribbons in the wind. Colorful stalls lined the roads, bursting with bright fruits, handmade jewelry, and baskets full of fresh herbs. The people waved as we passed, most of them directing their joy toward Akira like she was the sun itself. Some clasped their hands and bowed. Others simply smiled with teary eyes, whispering her name as if it were holy.Akira smiled at them all with patient kindness, never once letting go of her graceful posture. “Thank you,” she kept saying, over and over. “Thank you for waiting. For staying.”She turned to me and Axel. “You have no idea what you’ve done for this place. For me.” Her voice softened. “You brought the heart back.”As we walked,

  • THE WIFE YOU LEFT   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY-FOUR: AKIRA'S MYSTERIOUS.

AXEL’S POV:In less than thirty minutes, we’d all changed, dressed, and were ready to meet Akira. Sea clung to Avery’s side but walked confidently, her small hand occasionally brushing mine. We moved as one, a family unit—strangely out of place against the tropical house in front of us.Hand in hand, we made our way toward the adjacent building. Vines climbed elegantly along the wooden exterior. We knocked ceaselessly, but there was no answer, so I just gently pushed the door open and we all walked in.The house smelled like sun-drenched flowers and spice, the wind rustling through hanging ferns. Inside, the walls were soft coral, ceilings high and crisscrossed with bamboo beams. A slow fan turned overhead, stirring the scent of ripe fruit and lavender oil.“This place reminds me of an island,” Sea murmured, awed.We wandered deeper in, looking for the dining area. But just before we turned the corner, a faint murmuring caught our ears—voices.Avery paused. “Should we go back? Maybe
