The room remained silent after the video disappeared.

Celine stared at the black screen as if Marcus might suddenly reappear and explain that everything had been a mistake.

But he didn’t.

His words remained in her mind.

Your marriage to him was part of the plan.

Her marriage.

Her entire life with Adam.

Could it really have been planned by someone else?

Celine slowly shook her head.

“No.”

Adam didn’t move.

The marriage certificate still lay on the table between them.

The date was wrong.

The signature beneath his name looked like his, but something about it bothered him. He had signed hundreds of documents throughout his life. He knew his own handwriting.

“This isn’t my signature,” he said quietly.

Celine looked at him.

“What?”

Adam picked up the certificate.

“I thought it was mine at first. But look at the final letter.”

She leaned closer.

The signature was almost identical to Adam’s, but the last stroke was different.

“You’re right,” she whispered.

Adam looked at her.

“Then someone forged both our signatures.”

Celine’s heart pounded.

“But why?”

“That’s what we’re going to find out.”

He reached for the certificate.

Celine suddenly stopped him.

“Wait.”

Adam looked at her.

“What?”

She pointed to the bottom of the document.

There was a small stamp beneath the signatures.

A hospital seal.

Celine frowned.

“That shouldn’t be there.”

“Why?”

“Because this isn’t a hospital document.”

Adam’s eyes narrowed.

Celine took the certificate carefully.

“When we got married, the certificate was processed through the civil registry. There was no hospital involved.”

Adam stared at her.

“Are you sure?”

“I am.”

She had spent years studying medical documents, legal forms, and patient records. Details like this didn’t escape her.

Adam stood.

“Then this document wasn’t created when we got married.”

Celine’s eyes widened.

“Someone created it afterward.”

“Exactly.”

A cold silence settled between them.

Someone had created a fake marriage certificate and inserted it into a video designed to make Celine believe her marriage had been part of a conspiracy.

But there was one question neither of them could answer.

Why would anyone go to such lengths?

Adam’s phone suddenly rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

“Hello?”

No response.

“Who is this?”

A faint sound came through the speaker.

Breathing.

Then a whisper.

“You should have left her alone.”

Adam’s expression hardened.

“Who are you?”

The caller laughed softly.

“You still don’t understand.”

The line went dead.

Celine watched him.

“What did they say?”

Adam didn’t answer immediately.

“They said I should have left you alone.”

Her stomach tightened.

“They’re watching us.”

“I know.”

Adam walked toward the window and pulled the curtain aside.

The street below was almost empty.

Then he noticed something.

A black sedan parked across the road.

His eyes narrowed.

“Celine.”

She walked toward him.

“What?”

“Don’t stand near the window.”

She stopped.

The black car suddenly started its engine.

Adam grabbed his jacket.

“Stay here.”

“No.”

“Celine—”

“I’m coming with you.”

He stared at her.

“This isn’t a game.”

“I know.”

She picked up the marriage certificate.

“And neither is this.”

They left the apartment together.

By the time they reached the street, the black sedan was gone.

Adam looked in both directions.

Nothing.

Celine exhaled.

“Maybe they just wanted us to see them.”

“Maybe.”

She looked at him.

“You’re starting to sound like Daniel.”

Adam almost smiled.

“That’s not necessarily an insult.”

“It is today.”

For the first time that night, the tension between them eased.

But it lasted only a moment.

Celine looked down at the certificate again.

“There has to be somewhere we can verify this.”

“The registry.”

“Exactly.”

Adam nodded.

“We’ll go tomorrow.”

Celine looked at him.

“Together?”

“Unless you don’t want me there.”

She hesitated.

“I didn’t say that.”

Their eyes met.

For a few seconds, neither looked away.

There was something changing between them.

Something neither wanted to name.

Adam slowly reached for her hand.

Celine didn’t pull away.

His fingers closed around hers.

And for a moment, the conspiracy, the forged documents, the missing memories—all of it disappeared.

Then Celine’s phone vibrated.

She pulled it from her pocket.

One new message.

No number.

Just an image.

She opened it.

Her breath caught.

It was an old photograph of her and Adam.

But it wasn’t their wedding photograph.

It showed them standing outside a building neither of them recognized.

Celine zoomed in.

There was a date printed in the corner.

Six months before their wedding.

Adam stared at the picture.

“Where is that?”

“I don’t know.”

Celine’s voice trembled.

Then she noticed the woman standing behind them.

Her face was partially hidden.

But Celine recognized the coat.

She had seen it before.

At the hospital.

On the night Adam’s life changed forever.

Celine whispered one word.

“Victoria.”

Adam looked at her.

The phone vibrated again.

A second message appeared.

Ask Victoria what happened six months before your wedding.

Celine’s blood ran cold.

Because beneath the message was one final sentence.

She was there when your marriage was planned.

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 15: THE WOMAN IN THE ARCHIVE

Celine could not remember visiting the registry office six months before her wedding. She remembered the ceremony, Adam's hand around hers and the certainty she had felt when she chose him. The archive memory was completely absent. The retired clerk, Benson, described the man who accompanied her as tall, dark-haired and dressed like a doctor. He was certain it was not Marcus. Celine's fear deepened because the false memory seemed carefully designed rather than random. A photocopy showed Celine's name and a signature that was almost hers. Benson remembered her asking questions about marriage and medical authority. Adam began to wonder whether someone had been preparing a legal framework for controlling his treatment before the accident even happened. A second message arrived telling them to ask Victoria what had happened. Victoria admitted she had seen marcus after the accident and that he had been frightened. She had not known whom he was running from. Celine confronted her abou

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 14: THE CERTIFICATE

The screen went black. Celine stared at her reflection in it, unable to move. Adam stood beside her, jaw tight. The room felt too small for both of them. The message on the screen had vanished, but its meaning remained: their marriage certificate had been altered, and somebody wanted them to believe their entire relationship was part of a plan. Celine returned to the registry office with Adam the next morning. The original registration log contained their names, but the date had been amended. A private medical authorization code appeared beside the correction. Adam stared at it. Why would a hospital have anything to do with a marriage? The retired clerk remembered Celine visiting months before the wedding. She had supposedly asked whether a person could be legally married while one party was unconscious. Celine insisted she had never made such a visit. The signature on the form looked almost like hers, but one letter was wrong. A message then arrived: ASK VICTORIA WHAT HAPPE

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 13: THE NAME IN THE FILE

They didn’t know whether Daniel was alive. By the time the ambulance arrived, he was unconscious. Celine stood outside the hospital emergency room, her hands trembling. Adam stood beside her. “You should sit.” “I can’t.” “You’ve been standing for an hour.” “I don’t care.” He looked at her. “You do care.” She turned. “About what?” “Your brother.” “Of course I care.” Adam nodded. “Then sit.” She finally lowered herself into a chair. For several minutes, neither spoke. Then a doctor approached. “Are you family?” “Yes,” Celine answered. “Daniel survived the gunshot.” She exhaled. “But he’s unconscious.” “Will he wake up?” “We don’t know.” Celine closed her eyes. Adam placed a hand on her shoulder. She didn’t pull away. Hours later, Daniel finally opened his eyes. Celine rushed into the room. “Daniel.” His eyes moved toward her. “Celine.” She took his hand. “Who shot you?” He looked at Adam. “Not here.” Adam locked the door. Daniel struggled to sit up

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 12: MARCUS

Marcus Vale was alive. That was the only thought Celine could hold onto. After three years of searching, the man who had disappeared from every medical registry had finally left them a trail. Adam wanted to call the police. Celine refused. “Why?” “Because we don’t know who we can trust.” “Your mother said the same thing.” “Exactly.” They followed the coordinates written beneath Marcus’s name. The location led them to an old medical laboratory outside the city. The building had been abandoned for years. Adam broke the lock. Inside, rows of old equipment covered the rooms. Celine recognized several machines. “They used this place for neurological research.” Adam looked around. “Can you tell what they were doing?” She walked toward a computer. “Some of these systems are still active.” She switched it on. A password screen appeared. Adam looked at her. “Any idea?” Celine stared at the screen. Something came to her. A number. She entered it. The computer unlocke

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 11: THE WOMAN SHE BURIED

Celine didn’t sleep. She sat on the edge of her bed until dawn, staring at the photograph. Her mother had been dead for fifteen years. At least, that was what she’d believed. There had been a funeral. A burial. A grave. Memories that Celine had never questioned. Until now. Adam found her in the living room the next morning. “You should rest.” “I can’t.” “I know.” She looked at him. “What if she’s alive?” “Then we’ll find her.” “And if she’s not?” “Then we’ll find whoever is pretending to be her.” Celine nodded. At midnight, they went to the railway station. The place was almost deserted. A cold wind moved through the empty platform. Adam stayed close to Celine. “Do you see anyone?” “No.” Then a woman stepped out from behind a pillar. Celine froze. The woman was older. Her hair was streaked with gray. But the eyes were unmistakable. “Mom?” The woman looked at her. “Celine.” Celine couldn’t move. “Is it really you?” The woman nodded. Celine’s eyes fil

  • THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS    Chapter 10: HER MOTHER’S NAME

Celine didn’t speak during the drive home. She sat in the passenger seat, staring through the window. Her mother. Alive? A researcher? Connected to Adam’s accident? None of it made sense. Adam glanced at her. “Are you okay?” “No.” He nodded. “I know.” “My mother died.” “I know.” “I saw her coffin.” “I know.” “Then Victoria was lying.” “Maybe.” Celine turned toward him. “You don’t believe that.” “No.” “Why?” “Because Victoria knew too much.” Celine looked away. When they arrived home, Adam immediately inserted the memory card into his computer. The screen displayed dozens of video files. Most were dated three years earlier. One file was marked: ACCIDENT NIGHT — 02:00–04:00 Adam clicked it. The footage showed the neurological ward. Celine leaned closer. There was Adam’s room. At 2:17 a.m., a man entered. He wore a doctor’s coat. Celine’s breathing stopped. “That’s him.” Adam looked at her. “Marcus?” “I think so.” The man approached Adam’s bed. He
