Liberty: I had it all, good looks, loving family, a powerful mate and a strong son. But then my mate betrayed me in the worst possible way. He didn't just reject me, he had me thrown into prison leaving me to wither away. Eventually I welcomed death, longing for my suffering to be over only to be thrown back in time. A second chance. A chance for revenge on my mate and those who helped him betray me. This time round I won't be the sweet smiling beauty that I was before. I'll outsmart them making sure they end up empty handed and I will have everything I deserve. But not everything is the same. I for one am very different but what about my mate? Can he love me this time? Maverick: My father is blinded by my stepmotherrefusing to see the obvious. My half brother Hartley is aiming for the throne but that belongs to me! I will claim my rightful place when I have exposed my step mothers role in my mothers death. No one can stop me, not even the verocious alpha's daughter. But I have to keep her close she know's more than she should. I will not fall for her looks. I don't want my mate not until I have figured it all out and it's safe.
View MoreI stare at my disheveled, ruined, appearance. My long chocolate brown hair is matted with blood, snot and vomit. My eyelids are swollen shut, my eyes bloodshot from all the tears I’ve cried over the past hours.
What happened? How did I fall from being the mate of the crowned lycan prince to being a prisoner. At least I think I’m a prisoner. I’m not locked up in a dungeon yet but the door to the room I’ve been dumped in while unconscious is locked.
The splash of cold water I throw in my face doesn’t really clear my mind much. The pain from the breaking family bonds has gone down to a throb.
My father, mother and brother are dead.
The pain of the breaking bonds was so overwhelming that I couldn’t ask what was happening when my mate Hartley entered the room with guards. His usually handsome face was emotionless. His brown soft eyes had a hard glint in them I’d never seen before. And certainly not aimed at me.
When he entered I’d expected him to hold me, to help me h the rough my pains but nothing was further from the truth. He stepped away when I reached out to touch him. Ordered the guards to take me away. Without hesitation they lifted me up and carried me out. Hitting my head on the doorpost causing me to lose consciousness.
“Follow!” Unseen, a guard has entered my room.
“Where to?” I ask him
“The courtroom your trial starts in a couple of minutes,” he snaps back.
My legs are wobbly, I guess they’ve not only banged my head but also fed me wolfsbane. I can feel but not reach Naveah, my wolf. The upside is that I’m not in silver cuffs.
When I enter the courtroom a deadly silence falls. The atmosphere is hostile. I hear people hissing ‘traitor’ at me.
Breathlessly I listen to the accusations. My entire family is being accused of treachery to the crown. My father and brother were executed on the spot on the battlefield. My mother committed suicide before they could caputure her.
In the packhouse they found a magnitude of evidence supporting the claims. My father's Beta, Carlo, throws me a bone chilling grin when his role in uncovering the plans is mentioned.
His triumphant grin when he’s rewarded for his loyalty with the Alpha title. I freeze. This can not be right.
“As the mother of a future heir we will not sentence you to death but we will sentence you to prison for life,” the chairman of the council reads of the verdict.
“Take her away to the dungeons!” Hartley growls to the guards who open the cage and drag me out.
“Lock Liberty up!” the crowd chants as I’m taken away.
Locked up in the cold dungeons I cry my eyes out. Someone has to know this is wrong. Someone has to come to my aid. Set the record straight. Clear my family’s name.
The guards are talking amongst themselves. Laughing at me, making fun of me. Sometimes I catch a part of a sentence where they indicate what they would do to me if they could have their way with me. Sending shivers down my spine.
“Liberty!” Hartley’s cold voice echo’s in the dungeon, I haven’t heard him come downstairs.
“Hartley? Why did you let this happen to me? I gave you everything. We were happy together. I love you!”
“I came to reject you,” he snarls at me, “I can’t be bonded to, or associated with you any more!”
“I did nothing and you know it! I have never and would never betray you, our bond or our kingdom!” I scream back at him. He glares at me ignoring everything I said.
“I, Hartley Harding, Lycan Prince, reject you Liberty Redd as my mate. I strip you of your privileges and title. You are no longer part of the royal family.”
A sharp pain shoots through my chest and I fall to the floor in agony.
“I Liberty Redd accept your rejection,” I manage to grit out between my clenched teeth.
Hartley crouches down, “It was a long game to replace your father. He would never obey my orders, always insisting it was my father who needed to give them. But I need someone who is loyal to me in that position. I need to be able to use the warriors and the packs as I see fit without interference from my father….”
His words echo in my head as I watch him leave. On his way out he growls something to the guards that makes them grin in the vilest possible way. It’s happening he’s letting me rot in the dungeons.
The guards move closer, revelling in my broken appearance. Taunting me with my downfall. But not touching me for now. I wonder how long it will take before the first guard tries to put his hands on me.
I don’t know how long after Hartley left I hear quiet careful footsteps coming down the stairs and a flicker of hope rises in my heart. Help is on the way!
Liberty povWhack I try to silence my alarm by hitting in its general direction. I’m not a morning person. Never was never will be. For this very reason I have my alarm on my desk so I have to get out of bed. I don’t know what Olwyn put in that ointment but it sure worked magic. I stretch myself and put on my workout clothes. It’s Saturday, no school but sparring class led by Gamma Heath. I hope I get to spar with Madelin today. She won’t take it easy on me, nor will I take it easy on her but after yesterday I know that we won’t excessively hurt each other. When I enter the sparring Area I see Madelin practicing moves we did earlier this week. Before yesterday I would have kept to myself and do some stretches for mobility but today I feel I can give her some feedback.“Goodmorning Madelin,” she startles at the sound of my voice. “Goodmorning to you too!” she chirps back, definitely a morning person, “Your wolf worked wonders during the night,” she assesses my face.“She’s a troop
Liberty povAs I get ready for school and make sure that I pack my workout clothes for after school so I can practise some moves in the gym. I have a lot of catching up to do in technique, strength and stamina. So I’ve taken up the habit of hitting the gym after school. Naveah turns out to be a good teacher helping me with technique. I look at myself in the mirror. Cooper and dad have given me a strength and stamina work out schedule and it shows. My body, once soft and supple, is now toned, scrapes, cuts and bruises in various stages of healing litter my skin. Over the past weeks I have trained hard and made good progress. After school I walk into the sparring area only to find the twins Verity and Viera there. Their father is my fathers beta and once my father, mother and Cooper were gone he took the Alpha title. I never paid much attention to Viera as she wasn’t after my mate like her twin was. I think I even liked her in my previous life. But between Verity and me it was always
Liberty pov“Lib! Libby!!” the all to familiar voice of Cooper sounds. With a groan my eyes snap open as my heart races.“Libby! Wake up you lazy pussy!” Cooper has climbed the stairs and is now in my room. He grabs the blanket and pulls it off of me. Ignoring him I put my head under the pillow. “Coop, just give me a few more minutes please.” I plead with him. “No can do, breakfast is in 10!” he cheerfully announces. “Okay, okay I’m coming….” I grumble feeling more confused and lost than anything else. /Naveah?/ I reach out to my wolf./I’m here Liberty,/ her voice sounds tentative./Was it all a dream? or a vision? or did it really happen? it all seems so real?/ /I can’t say for sure but what I do know is that the Moon Goddess isn’t pleased with our current way of doing things. We need to step up.//Let’s go then,/ I swallow loudly. As I look in the mirror I see a faint scar on my neck. When I touch it I feel silver burning and in my head I hear Selene’s voice: ‘It was real. Liberty povThe footsteps come closer, I hold my breath in anticipation of who it is. “Oh dear, what a pitiful sight you are,” Candy’s nasal voice echoes against the stone walls. “Candy!” I whisper yell. Candy can help me. She and I go back to our teenage years. We weren’t close friends but we had a lot in common. Both alpha’s daughters from powerful packs we met in the academy. She crouches in front of the bars and I frantically crawl towards her, tears running down my face. Everything will be alright I tell myself. It has to be. This can not be happening, not to me. “Candy, you have to help me. You know I’d never commit treason. Everyone I love is dead or has been set up against me. You know me. You have to help me get out so I can find who is responsible for this.” A searing pain courses through my arm as I accidentally touch the silver bar causing me to scream. “I need you to take Blake and MacKenzie to somewhere safe. I need you to help them get away before they are killed t
