CHAPTER THREE

SOLEDAE POV

Of course I didn't hate Lucinda even though she treated me horribly. I still considered her as my mother no matter how cruel she acted towards me. I sighed and cleaned the dusty floor I wanted to be on my best behavior.

So far it's been quite a stressful day. The suitor saved me from Lucinda's rough life.

"Soledae!" Lucinda yelled and I covered my ears her voice was too loud even for my own sensitive ears.

I bet it was only going to be more chores and orders I better get going before I upset her Majesty I wouldn't want to be thrown in the dark creepy dudgeon.

"Am coming just a minute" I replied softly and I grabbed my bucket and mop. I rushed upstairs and knocked on her bedroom door.

"Come in child" she muttered quietly and I opened the door.

I shut the door behind me silently and bowed my head.

"Yes you called mother" I answered softly.

"Yes I need these clothes washed before breakfast you should take Maxima's clothes as well. She has an appearance in London this evening."

"Okay" I meekly answered.

I nodded and took the dirty clothes and closed the door behind me. I took the clothes to the laundry room and collected Maxima's clothes as well.

Sadly Mila wasn't here to come to my rescue things would have been easy. She's studying abroad in Paris and she is going to become a medical doctor. I was so proud of my sister she was making a big difference in the lives of other people.

She promised to come back for me once she graduated and we would stay together forever. I was eagerly waiting for that day to come. Her arrival was going to be the most joyous day of my life. I was finally going to leave this horrible nightmare she was going to rescue me.

Once I was done with my chores I rushed to my room upstairs. Just then the small phone that Mila got me vibrated and I quickly answered the call.

"Soledae how are you?" Mila beamed happily on the other end.

"Am fine sister how are you?" I asked.

"Am good little sister I just wanted to let you know that I'll be coming soon and I haven't forgotten my promise either."

"Am so happy Mila and I'll keep waiting for your arrival" I mumble.

"Okay I better go to study " she Says quietly.

"Alright please take care of yourself bye" I replied and the call got disconnected.

Six years later.

I kept on waiting and waiting and I turned older and I stopped receiving calls from Mila. When I tried to call her back her phone was always off.

I kept staring at the window absently waiting for her return. But I knew deep down that I had to finally accept that she wasn't ever going to come back for me. Maybe she had also changed her mind about me.

I was stuck here for life as a maid was this going to be my fate for the rest of my life?"

No I wasn't going to let them walk all over me and mistreat me. Enough was enough their cruel remarks and torture wasn't going to be taken lightly.

Everything was unbearable.

I can't live in silence and rot in this hell hole for eternity. I closed my journal and safely placed it in my bag. I was leaving and I didn't know which direction I was going to end up.

Yes it was final.

I packed a few good clothes and had to wear rags to make it look like I was doing my chores. Lucinda wouldn't suspect a single thing.

Lucinda closed her magazine and gulped the last glass of champagne and got up letting out a big yawn.

"Soledae you better hurry up and feed those farm animals and don't forget to lock the door" she mumbles avidly and went upstairs.

It was clear that the queen needed her beauty sleep.

I nodded quietly and went outside to feed the farm animals for the last time the poor things would starve to death in my absence. I could have taken them with me if it was possible but the circumstances forbid me.

I sobbed silently recalling the good moments I've spent in my childhood home. It seemed more like a haunted house now in some horror movie.

I patted my white horse. I remember naming her Daisey my parents and I would always ride together. We rode on Sunday and later watched the sunset. We would end the day with mother's famous beef roast accompanied with mashed potatoes.

An hour later I was done feeding the farm animals and I made sure that they had lots of food to eat and plenty of fresh water. I wiped the beads of sweat off my forehead and went to the garden to pluck a few apples, peaches, and strawberries. I went to the kitchen and took some loaves of bread and water.

At least I had a few snacks for the road better than not starving myself since I'll be a stranger to any place that I go to.

I needed to change as well.

I went inside the house and dressed in my buggy dress and apron. I combed my hair and let it cascade down my back. It was time for a change.

I sneaked into Lucinda's bedroom carefully not to make the door creak very loudly. My heart was thumping in my chest.

I was entering a lion's den and there was no going back.

Once I made sure that she was asleep I turned on the flashlight and began opening the drawers searching for the property papers that my father had left me.

Ten minutes later I came across a blue folder. When I opened it I was stunned to discover my father's name on them. It was the papers I was looking for.

I sighed with joy and utter relief because this was the end of my suffering.

I glanced at Lucinda and she was sound asleep. I placed them in my bag and left the room.

I went to my room and wrote a letter to Lucinda explaining why I left.

DEAR LUCINDA I HOPE YOU ARE WELL I ONLY LEFT BECAUSE OF THE WAY YOU TREATED ME. IF MY FATHER KNEW WHAT KIND OF WOMAN YOU WERE HE WOULDN'T HAVE EVER BROUGHT YOU TO THIS HOUSE.

I'VE SUFFERED IN YOUR HANDS LUCINDA PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. IT'S NOT ONLY YOU MAXIMA HAS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO MY SORROW AND SADNESS. EVEN IF I DIE NOW IT WOULDN'T MATTER TO YOU MILA HAS ALSO DISAPPOINTED ME BUT I WON'T HOLD ANY GRUDGE AGAINST ANY OF YOU.

JUST GRANT MY FREEDOM AND I AM TAKING WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE THE PROPERTY PAPERS THAT MY FATHER RUSSELL YOUNG LEFT ME.

YOUR DAUGHTER.

SOLEDAE.

I placed the letter on the table in the living room and I am sure they would easily find it. I closed the front door and began running to the bus station, my golden blonde hair flowing freely in the brisk wind.

It was midnight but I didn't care. My laughter filled the empty road as I ran faster. I didn't want to turn back.

I was finally going to New York City, the home of the man my heart has chosen Sebastian Hunter my Adonis. I would start a new life and work hard to make my broken life better once again.

Where there is darkness light will always shine. My light was in the process of shining. I was no longer the slave girl. I was determined, strong willed and ambitious. I would aim high to make my dreams take flight and come true. Yes I was a big dreamer and I wouldn't let them collapse and die so young I would fight for them.
