The meeting

"Rosaline, you have to get some rest. It's been only but few weeks ago,  since you had the surgery against all warnings. This is the time to take care of yourself".

Doctor Jones pearl was not happy hearing that Rosaline have only come for the pain killers. He wanted her to stay a few days in the hospital at least.

"I know doctor Jones, and I will take a really long rest, I promise, it's just that today is very important to me. It is my anniversary. I know a lot has been happening lately, and Steve probably forgot, I want to make it worth it. I want him to know that no matter what we go through, as long as we are together, we can conquer it all".

Rosaline Audrey spoke with finality.

Doctor Jones already knew arguing with her was pointless, but he still tried his final shot.

"Your husband specifically told me to make sure you are kept here for a day or two. He is worried about you and you don't seem to be worried about yourself?

Hearing that her husband was worried about her made her feel loved. She touched her heart and heaved a sigh.

"I cannot allow anything come between us. Not this pain, not anything. Today is special, after today, I will come to the hospital and take a bed".

Doctor jones gave up and gave her some pain killers, especially since she promised that after she celebrates her anniversary with her husband, she will take the required rest and treatment.

On her way out, she sees a man, struggling with his four year old daughter. She doesn't want to take her medicines. Rosaline, has always had a soft spot for kids, but she has never been blessed to miss her period let alone get pregnant, and if she ever had any chance to be pregnant before, with this surgery she recently just had, getting pregnant may never happen in this life time for her.

"Here, let me help with that". She says, handing her purse to the man.

Rosaline bent down, so as to be on the same level with the little girl.

"You don't like taking meds right? She says and the girl nodded happily, hoping to be told that she won't have to.

"I don't like them too". Rosaline added, making a face that tells the little girl, she really hate the pills.

"Look at mine". She showed her, the pain killers she just received from doctor Jones".

"But why did you even collect them? The curious little girl asked.

"I will take them home, and close my nose, and watch a movie of someone taking medicines, then we will take them together, then I wont feel alone". The little girl laughed so loud, that even the man had to join in the laugh.

"But now that I have seen you, can we both try taking our meds, with our nose partly closed? Rosaline asked her and she nodded happily.

"On three". Says Rosaline.

"Three, two, one! The little girl poured the tablets into her mouth while Rosaline did same with hers, and they both made a disgusting face to the taste of the substance. Her father was utterly surprised at how easily, she agreed to the stranger.

"You have to take your medicines, if you don't want to keep taking them". Rosaline says and the little girl looked confused, so she asked.

"How do you mean?

"If you don't take your medicines, you will get sick, you will never get better, and your Dad will keep trying to get you to take them, but if you take them, and get well, then you won't have to take more, because you won't be sick". It sounded reasonable and she nodded. She hugged Rosaline, but when Rosaline tries to get up, she felt a sharp pain around her side. Just taking pain killers wouldn't do the trick. She needs to take good care of herself, but she still have to make today count.

She was helped up, by the little girl's father.

"I'm Gordon, and this is my daughter Amelia". Rosaline exchanged pleasantries and gently left, still holding her side.

She needed to get to the store, to get the things she will use to bake their anniversary cake. She was so sure, Steve would be surprised that she remembers.

"Daddy, I really like her". Amelia called out to her father, who kept looking at the exit, even though Rosaline was far gone already.

"I like her too". Gordon responded, but as he made to move, he stepped on something. It was a card, a credit card. He picked it up, her name was boldly written on it. Rosaline Audrey.

"I need to get this to her". He says.

He rushed outside, but she was not there.

Amelia looked excited to see Rosaline again.

"Let's go now! She urges him.

"We will go, as soon as I finish with the doctor".

Rosaline got to the store, but was unable to purchase anything due to her missing card.

"I must have left it at home". She thought.

"Please keep everything for me, I will come back to get them as soon as I retrieve my card. Today is very important to me". She tells the sales person who just nodded.

Rosaline drove home, and surprisingly, she didn't get to use her key, because the door was unlocked. As soon as she stepped inside, she heard voices.

"Steve is not supposed to be back so soon". She tells herself, feeling a bit disappointed, that her surprise is ruined.

"Anyways, what is the point of surprise, when we have each other.  We could just start the celebration immediately". She tells herself with smiles, radiating all over her.

She tries to suppress the pain coming from her side.

"Steve must not suspect I am feeling any pain, else he would be worried for me".

But the closer she gets, the clearer, the voices she had to pause for a while, just to be sure she wasn't hearing wrong. It wasn't a voice of him speaking to someone on the phone, or discussing with someone, it was a loud  sound of groans and moans.

With uneasy steps and shaky hands Rosaline pulled the door opened, only to find her husband and her best friend, pant down, making out in their matrimonial bed.

She wanted to surprise him,

but he surprised her.
