CHAPTER 48: STILL MAD AT ME?

KIMBERLY:

I woke up to the subtle sensation of fingertips grazing the small of my back, slow and deliberate, like they had all the time in the world. For a second, I wanted to shove them off, bury my head under the pillow, and ignore his presence.

The memories of last night hadn’t faded—the party, the misunderstanding, the sting of his words.

But my body betrayed me. I craved his touch.

I lay still, eyes half-open, as Damien’s hand wandered with that same quiet confidence he always carried. He didn't speak, not at first. He just touched me, like he knew exactly where to find the tension buried beneath my skin. When his lips brushed against the curve of my shoulder, I inhaled sharply, trying not to react.

"Still mad at me?" he whispered, his voice husky with sleep.

I didn’t answer. My silence was my only defense.

His hand moved again, this time down to my hips and then to my thighs. A shiver ran down my spine and I tried to move away from him but I couldn'

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    KIM'S NEW KITCHEN

CHAPTER 95; KIM'S NEW KITCHEN DAMIEN:The drive home was quiet. Kim sat beside me, her gaze fixed out the window, her breath fogging the glass in soft bursts. After that run-in with Roland and the bizarre flowers on my car, neither of us seemed eager to start another conversation. I kept my eyes on the road, but my mind kept circling back to those damn flowers. Who leaves a note like that in the middle of winter on a CEO’s car in his private lot? Whoever it was had guts. And a death wish.As we pulled into the driveway, the motion sensor lights flickered on, washing the yard in a pale glow. That’s when I spotted my grandmother. She stood in the front yard, wrapped in her thick knitted shawl, her white hair catching the light like spun silver. Her face broke into a warm smile when she saw us.I frowned instantly. “What on earth is she doing outside in this cold?” I muttered. Winter nights in this city weren’t something to take lightly. The moment I turned off the engine, Kim was alre

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    THE ANONYMOUS LOVE LETTER

CHAPTER 94: THE ANONYMOUS LOVE LETTER DAMIEN:I leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling for a moment before meeting her gaze. “Fine. You want the short version or the one that’ll make you sleep with the lights on?”“I’m already sleeping with the lights on since Thornhill was killed so hit me with the long one.”I exhaled slowly. “It has something to do with the will and Thornhill's death. I went to your father's office today, and asked if he knew that Thornhill was dead. He pretended he was hearing it from me for the first time. But I knew he was lying.”“Of course, he was lying. He's very good at that. The news of Thornhill's death is everywhere in the news.”I nodded. It's good Kim knew the kind of father she had. “After speaking with him, I came down the elevator and saw a SUV parked next to my car. It wasn't there when I arrived and though it didn't have a definite plate number, I recognised the car. It was the same SUV that had followed us from Thornhill's office the day

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, DAMIEN?

CHAPTER 93: WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, DAMIEN?DAMIEN:I stared at my phone for a second before it dawned on me what that message really meant. My gut didn’t need more than two seconds to process it.“Out! Everyone out of the warehouse—now!” I barked, shoving the phone into my pocket. My men didn’t question me. They’d seen that look on my face before. They dropped whatever they were doing and rushed for the exit, heavy boots pounding against the concrete floor. I stayed behind for half a second longer than I should have, scanning the shadows, listening for the faintest mechanical whine of a detonator. We were barely three steps out when it happened.A deafening BOOM split the air, the force slamming into my back like a steel wall. The SUV we’d towed from Walker Enterprises erupted into a ball of orange flame, the shockwave rattling the metal warehouse doors so hard they nearly buckled.Glass rained from the top—tiny glittering daggers showered like rain drops. My ears rang as I felt the he

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    TRYING TO SECURE THE WILL

CHAPTER 92: TRYING TO SECURE THE WILL DAMIEN:As soon as Roy, my head of security arrived with his team, I left the parking lot of Walker Enterprises. I didn’t drive straight back to the office after confronting James Walker. My gut was on fire. The image of that black SUV parked just inches from my Aston Martin kept replaying in my mind like a taunt. I’d seen enough in my life to know when I was being watched—and whoever was in that car wasn’t paparazzi.Since I still had some time before the lunch break was over, I decided to start taking action immediately. The original will Thornhill gave me was in the inner pocket of my coat, tucked flat against my chest like a heartbeat. The paper felt heavy, not in weight—but in consequence. Thornhill had died for this, and if James Walker was behind it, then I was holding evidence that could bring down more than just a family.Just then, Kim's call came into my phone.“Where are you, Damien?” she asked, her voice calm, but urgent.“I’m on my w

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    A MAN ON A MISSION

CHAPTER 91: A MAN ON A MISSIONDAMIEN:I got back to my room after having that chat with my grandmother. Kim was already dressed. I quickly stepped into the bathroom, washed up and got dressed in a dark navy suit, tailored to precision. Crisp white shirt, buttoned all the way, no tie—my usual no-nonsense look.I put on my shoes and wrist watch, and grabbed my car keys.“Let's go, honey.”Kim nodded and led the way. It was a thirty minute drive to Carter Corp. We didn't talk much in the car. I had the urge to tell her that I planned on visiting her Dad today but decided against it.We took my private elevator to the top floor and parted ways after I gave her a quick kiss.I had a lot on my table and didn't check on my wife again. When I checked my wristwatch and saw it was already 12:57 p.m sharp, I rose to my feet.Lunch break.I sighed, shut down my laptop, and pushed back the leather chair behind my desk. My reflection glared back at me from the glossy surface of the now-dark scree

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    GRANDMA'S ADVICE

CHAPTER 90: GRANDMA'S ADVICE DAMIEN:I woke up early because I wanted to get to the office before 8:am. But first, I needed to see my grandmother. I put on a robe, stepped out of our room and headed to Grandma Evelyn's chambers. She was seated by the window in her reading chair, a soft breeze brushing against her lace curtains as she sipped her morning tea. The sun was barely up, casting long streaks of light across the carpet. I usually don't knock when entering her room. It was the same room I had shared with her during my childhood. I still felt very familiar with it. But today, I knocked.“Come in,” she responded immediately. I walked in as she set her teacup on the saucer. She turned to face me. “Damien, your shoulders are tense, and your eyes are shadowed. You look like you have the world on your shoulders, and if you don't loosen up a bit, it might crush you.”“Grandma,” I said quietly, closing the door behind me. “Good morning.”“Good morning, Damien. Sit down.” She patted t
