"Daniel Cross get out!” The nurse probably heard me from outside, so she rushed in to ask if everything was OK, but I told her to take Daniel out of my room. He was at first hesitant and I wished I had enough strength to slap the truth out of him. “She's my wife, OK, let me talk to her," he kept saying as the nurse asked him to go before she called security. Wife? He called me as if I didn't know what I was to him— Some image holder. He didn't deserve to call me that, not after what I found out, and the fact that I'd been dreaming all this while just kept breaking me in every way. “Chris, thank goodness you're here. Can you please tell the nurse I'm her husband?" he said to the doctor, who looked at him and shook his head. “What? Why? Didn't my mother come here?" he asked, probably wondering why that witch didn't stay with me until he arrived. “Ms. Brown asked her to leave and you too should if you want what's best for her," the Doctor responded before coming to check on the monitor. I heard the door closing and then turned to look at the Doctor since Daniel had left. “When can I leave this place?" I asked in a low tone. “Not so soon Ms. Brown. You need to stay strong for the medicine to work. And you haven't touched your food. Please do even if it's hard,” he said before asking the nurse to come feed me. "Please have something,” the Doctor said before walking out but I just couldn't. No matter how much I wanted to. I couldn't. The nurse made her way out of my room, and I asked her not to let anyone inside unless it was Zoe. I looked up at the ceiling not knowing whether it was night or daylight. The more time I spent alone, the more memories kept coming into my head, and the more tears kept falling down my face. I wanted to scream but my voice just wasn't loud enough at that moment. I kept thinking of everything I would do to Daniel if he ever tried to come close to me again before I finally fell asleep. ***Next day*** “Good morning," I heard Zoe greet as she walked into my room with pink roses. I looked at her, and my tears were already about to fall, but I held them back. “No, baby, don't hold them back. Let it out," she said, kissing my forehead before placing the flowers on the table. “Thank you for always being there for me, Zoe. I appreciate everything you're doing for me,” I said, looking at her. “It's OK. Right now, we need to get you out of here, Scarlett. I wish you never gave that beast a chance," Zoe replied softly, squeezing my hand. The warmth of her love covered the entire room and I couldn't even hear the beeping sound of the monitor. Zoe kept telling me so many different stories that I found myself smiling at some parts but the pain was still there. “I know it's going to be super hard to get over everything, but you are worth every diamond on this planet, Scarlett. You need to stay strong, OK," Zoe said as she wiped a tear running down my face. What could be greater than having a best friend who supports you through everything? Zoe sadly turned out to be right. I lived in denial. She noticed the red flags and warned me time and again yet I chose to make everything look green. I was so caught up in the illusion of being in a mutual relationship. “Are you OK?" Zoe noticed how pale I went after she showed me how much people wanted my designs. “I've made a very big mistake and I don't think I'll repeat loving a traitor again. I thought being there meant a lot," I replied. "It does, sweetie, so people are just so ungrateful, but that's OK. I'm glad you're finally seeing things for what they were,” Zoe said in a soft tone. I needed to use the restroom, so I stood up with the help of Zoe. The pain was nothing like anything I've ever felt but I pulled myself together. After a few minutes, I walked back and lay back on my sick bed. Zoe started massaging my head and that was one of the things I needed. “I hope I'm doing it like an expert," she commented while I just nodded. "You're getting it right,” I said, my tone low and audible. The door suddenly swung open, and Daniel walked in with his mom, Evelyn, behind him. I didn't know who called them or what they were looking for. “It's OK I'll handle this," Zoe said before going to block Daniel. “What's the meaning of this?" Daniel asked Zoe while his mother just gave her a disgusted look. “Scarlett doesn't want to talk to you. I'm sure you know why she had you kicked out last time, so please leave before I take matters into my own hands because I don't play about that woman lying on that bed," Zoe said, looking at me and then back at Daniel. “Hmmm, the audacity. Do you have any idea who you're talking to?" Evelyn scoffed. "Yes, I do, Mrs. Cross. I'm sure you know what happened the last time we met in court right?" Zoe asked Daniel's mother. Zoe's a lawyer after all. "Look, Zoe, I don't know what's going on, OK. I just want to talk to Scar—” "It's OK baby, let's go. I can't stand this woman,” Evelyn said, holding Daniel's arm. “But Mom, I need to talk to her. Zoe is not our problem right now," Daniel pulled his Mom back while she frowned. “You'd better leave before I make you leave, Daniel," Zoe blocked his way again as he tried to move towards me.CHAPTER 124Aldric I've asked Melissa and her dad to stay away from Scarlett but they wouldn't listen. I've to place some special force agents around Scarlett for extra safety. After she fell asleep on my shoulder I placed her on the bed and then went to get breakfast downstairs. I knew she was going to be hungry when awake. “You didn't have to get that," she said with a smile on her face as I walked into the room.“I had to. You don't have to worry about anything love," I took a seat next to her after placing the tray on the table next to the bed.“Uncle Aldric, did you prepare that?" Gina asked with curiosity written all over her face.“No sweetie. The maids did and I only went to get it," I smiled.“Would you like some?" Scarlett asked her.“Yes mommy," she answered before Scarlett placed her in the middle.I took the tray and placed it on Scarlett's lap and then watched as they were having breakfast. I could tell Gina was enjoying everything.“I need to finish something quickl
CHAPTER 123Nia He left just to go see Scarlett as if me being sick isn't that important too. I even had to pretend to sleepwalk just to sneak into his room. I should have just climbed the bed and slept next to Aldric. So that I could inhale his breath.Things weren't going to be this hard if only Scarlett weren't in the picture. After Aldric asked if there was something I hadn't told him when he found me on his couch. I made my way back to the guestroom and just drowned in my disappointment. The next morning, I found out that Aldric had gone to Scarlett's place after a Mafia member had almost attacked them. That wasn't bad from my side, in fact, I wish he had gotten close enough to Scarlett.“Nia what are you doing here so early?" Aldric's PA asked as she walked into the living room.“Uhmm I didn't go home yesterday," I smiled.“What? I mean is everything OK?" “Yes, I just had a headache, and Mr. Stone asked me to stay," I lied. “OK, I see that you're off today. Would you like me
CHAPTER 122Scarlett I sat upright after hearing the sound of a glass breaking downstairs. That was unusual.Could somebody have broken in?My head was just filled with different thoughts after what happened at the event when Aldric and I were about to make our way out.I dialed Zoe's number, but she wasn't picking up, which meant she was somewhere in Miguel's room. I got out of bed and then went to stand on my balcony but something looked weird. My gate was open and I couldn't see any security there. It looked as if all my men were nowhere to be found. Knowing how much danger I could be in I quickly made my way into my bedroom and called Jenny.“Ma'am is everything OK?" she asked in a sleepy tone.“I think there's a break in," I answered in a low tone.“What?!" she asked in a loud tone.“You need to go get Gina," I answered and then picked up Zoe's incoming call.“Hey, is Aldric back?" she joked before I told her what was going on.I could hear footsteps at my door and just hoped
CHAPTER 121Aldric“That was rude," she whispered since Damien was right behind us.We stayed at the event for a few more minutes and then made our way to the door. Just as we were about to reach the corridor, a group of black suited men with covered faces blocked our way, and I didn't even have to wonder who they were.I knew they were from the Ross Mafia.“Hello, beautiful," one said about holding Scarlett's chin, but I held their hand, and they hit me with their fist.“You want to play big boy now," he said while the others surrounded us.“Don't touch her," I said while Scarlett asked if I was OK.I could tell that she was very scared.“I'm fine, babe. You don't have to worry about anything," I said after I finally stood up."You still have the nerve to talk while—”"Boys!” I clapped my hands, and a group of special forces men walked out of the rooms in every direction. “What the hell?" the guy who hit me said after realizing everyone on his team had laser guns pointed at them.“
CHAPTER 120Aldric My heart pounds faster than usual every time I'm with Scarlett. Her beauty is enough to make a man fall all over again for her. I've been thinking about proposing but the fear of her still not being ready just kept holding me back.We kept talking about going on a vacation during the holidays on our way to the event at Hotel Dynasty before getting there. The entrance was crowded and all kinds of people were there. Fans, elites, and journalists. Waiting for their next headline. I got out of the car and opened the door for Scarlett while the crowd wildly screamed with excitement. If it wasn't for our security I'm sure they would have run towards us. “Mr. Stone, how do you feel coming here tonight?" a reporter asked her microphone right in my face."Great,” I smiled."Ms. Brown do you think he's any different from Daniel Cross?” another asked Scarlett.“You don't have to answer that," I whispered with a smile on my face as I could see how uncomfortable they were try
CHAPTER 119Scarlett “Hey babe," I said as he walked to my side of the table and kissed me.“Hi, beautiful. I hope you missed me?" he said.“Yeah, I did. How are you feeling?" “Better than ever. How's work going?" “Great, but Melissa was at Zoe's office," I said, and Aldric looked at me with shock.“What? I mean why?" “I honestly don't know but whatever she's trying wouldn't work around here. And she's lucky I was there. Zoe is crazy," I shook my head.“I know right. You should have left her to handle the situation." “Babe, that was work," I said, looking at Aldric.“Yeah right. So there's an event taking place at the Hotel Dynasty. Will you be coming?" he asked and I just wasn't sure." I don't know.”"Come on babe. Just say yes,” he insisted."No I'm not coming,” I responded." I wonder what I'll tell the media if they ask for you,” he said, looking at me.I could tell he was just trying to get me to change my mind. Lately, I just enjoyed being in quiet places. The event was g
