The atmosphere felt chilly, I could hear the sound of our heartbeats filling the dead silence that stung into the air. I tried to warn those tears, not to fall, not to make me feel miserable but I can't hold back anymore.
Not after I heard this. Not after those hurtful words is coming out from someone I love most.
"Let's break up, Susan. This relationship can't work anymore" he repeat it. Now with a tone that brings determination with no hint of regret.
The tears roll down my cheeks as I remind myself of what exactly is happening. My fiancee want to break up when our wedding is tomorrow! Who does that on the wedding eve?
I grabbed onto him. "You can't do this, Mike. Tomorrow is our wedding day! We are getting married tomorrow, you can't just break up with me now!"
He slapped my hands away and shot me a glare. "Don't you dare in your miserable life use those hands to touch me. I was just confused for a moment! That confusion made me thought I love you! Now I'm back to my senses! You are nothing but a useless nerd" He spat to my face before leaving the room.
The next breathe came to me as an attack, it's hard. It's painful, I can't breathe.
I thought my life will become the most beautiful one tomorrow once I get married to Mike. However, my hope got shattered to my face.
I move closer to the mirror and I can't remember the amount of time that I'm hating myself again.
"He is right! I'm a useless nerd!" I muttered, adjusting the glasses in my eyes.
I drop down on the floor, letting my broken heart speak in tears.
"Susan! Are you okay? What's wrong?"
I heard Jane's voice behind me, but I couldn't turn to her because my heart only ache more. She has been busy all other, monitoring the process of the events, ensuring that there is no mistake but who could have thought all her efforts will get washed away in one night?
A night to the wedding?
"Mike broke up with me" I drop the bombshell.
"What?" She screamed, dropping on her leg and we both look lost in our current situation.
.....
The next day start with a throbbing headache. I was trying to wake myself up from the nightmare but it seems to clenched to me so hard.
Jane encouraged me to put on my wedding dress, maybe Mike was putting on the trendy prank that is happening on social media these days.
I wanted to believe. I want everything to be a prank and nothing else but prank.
When we break up, I was expecting the hall to be empty but I was surprised to see the guest arriving and Jane's words start appearing as real. So Mike was pulling a prank with me after all?
I smile and move closer to the hall with Jane adjusting my wedding gown behind. I heard the MC starting the program inside and I smile, knowing that Mike will soon come out and end all the prank.
I was still standing there when two staff bypass us. "What sort of wedding is this? Why is there two brides?" They exchanged words and they return to the hall.
My smile slowly faded when I heard two brides.
"Don't mind that Susan, it might be part of the prank.. Mike might have even pay those two staff to whisper all of that to your ears so that it will look real to you"
Her words together are making new sense to me, I can't deny that. I release a deep breathe and choose to believe what she said.
However, my hope got shattered when I saw Mike walking hand in hand with a woman dressed in a wedding gown. And the woman is no other person than my mother!
"Mom!" I can't help my laughter as I laugh out loudly. "So Jane has been right all along. So this is a prank? I mean, it's impossible for you to get married to my mother. So you are pranking me?"
I smile walking towards them. When I tried to touch Mike, mom slapped my hand away instantly.
"How dare you touch my man!" She snapped.
I chuckled hard, smiling genuinely. "C'mon Mon! You know you suck at acting, don't forced it here. Thanks for getting along with Mike's plan to prank me, you guys got me scared honestly and now let's get married" I muttered with a smile on my face but Mike's response got me off.
"If you a nerd, you shouldn't have issues with seeing things clearly even though I expected that. Incase you don't know, I'm getting to Annabel and she is two months pregnant for me!"
I look into my mom's face and she was smiling brightly as if something good was happening to her as she roam her tummy. The hall open and the MC called them in.
"Is this prank not going too far?" I asked as I found my way entering the hall. The crowd gasps seeing me but I can't cover my mouth seeing a couple sweet moments on the projector.
My mom's pictures popped up with Mike as they shared romantic moments and those days are the days Mike told me he is busy at work. The outfit he wore when we had our first date but he had to leave due to a work emergency. I guess the emergency is nothing else but to see mom.
"Arghhhhhhhh" I screamed when they joined them together in front of the altar.
"Can someone drag this nerd outside?" Mike's mother ordered immediately and I got dragged out.
I run as fast as I can, I run where no one can see me. I hate myself! I hate this world!
I walk lonely in the rain, I just wished I had a better life. The woman that is supposed to fight for me was the same person that took away my source of joy
Why???
I climbed to the top of an uncompleted building, soaked and trembling. The city lights blurred through the rain. My mind screamed for peace.
“There’s no point living anymore,” I whispered.
Just as I took a step forward, I felt a hand tap my shoulder.
I turned, ready to ask who it was…
But before I could speak, I was pushed.
I slipped down the building with my face in horror and disbelief, I landed on the floor in my blood with a faint breath that didn't last longer before I finally lost consciousness.
The boardroom of Cole Industries was a monument to quiet power. Polished black marble, floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a dizzying view of the city, and a single, immense mahogany table. It was designed to intimidate, to remind every visitor exactly whose territory they were on.I arrived exactly two minutes before nine, wanting to project calm control. I was dressed in a charcoal suit, perfectly tailored, my concentration fully engaged, yet beneath the veneer of the composed CEO, I felt a coiled tension. This wasn't a business meeting; it was the next stage of a personal conquest disguised as corporate strategy.Ryan was waiting, leaning against the glass wall, a smirk playing on his lips.“You’re really going through with this?” he asked, shaking his head slightly. “Calling an emergency meeting with the Williams Group CEO twenty-four hours after accidentally glueing yourself to her? That’s dedication, man.”“It’s a strategy, Ryan,” I corrected, adjusting my cufflink. “I se
Then, boom, we hugged, her hand wrapping tightly around my waist. The force of the push was strong enough that I instinctively wrapped my arms around her, holding her steady. It wasn't a gentle embrace; it was the sudden, jarring contact of two people colliding, yet the moment was anything but jarring to my senses. Her body was pressed against mine, and I could feel the sharp intake of her breath against my suit jacket. Her hands, which had flown out to steady herself, were now clutching my waist. The delicate scent of her perfume—something floral and expensive, yet surprisingly subtle—filled my lungs. For a long second, we remained that way, frozen in the doorway of the Rose Café. The world, which had already quieted for me when she walked in, now seemed entirely non-existent.I was aware of every point of contact: the soft silk of her blouse under my hands, the steady beat of her heart, and the way her forehead rested against my shoulder. The intensity of it was intoxicating. I
Ethan’s POVThe night felt unusually quiet. The gentle hum of the city lights below my mansion faded into the background as I stood by the glass wall, staring at my reflection. The same face everyone called intimidating, sharp jaw, cold eyes but tonight, something about it looked different. Softer.I'm happy.I had been thinking about her… Andrea Williams.Or at least, that was the name she carried. The moment I bumped into her at the dinner party, my entire body froze like I’d seen a ghost. The wine splashing onto her gown, her eyes widening. And that smile… it wasn’t the smile of the confident businesswoman the tabloids painted her to be. For years, I’d imagined meeting her, the woman whose empire stood next to mine in power and influence. Back then, when I was still an intern under my father’s company, she was already building her name, shaping the world like she owned it. I admired her from a distance, too proud to admit I was fascinated. And tonight, I finally met her. Not in a
Andrea’s POVFinally, I'm set to go! Isabel got me the exact gown I requested for and the guards has prepared those cars as well. The soft hum of the engine was the only sound inside the car. My heart beat in a rhythm that matched the city lights flashing by the tinted window.Tonight wasn’t just a gathering. It was the beginning of something far greater my return. Something that will determine my revenge. When the valet opened the door, the cool night breeze brushed my skin. I stepped out slowly, heels clicking against the floor, feeling the curious eyes of people turning toward me. For a brief second, I tasted power. I can now differentiate from being helpless and powerful, I will always go for something powerful. “Good evening, Miss Williams,” one of the ushers said, bowing slightly.I smiled faintly and entered the hall. The Empire Dinner sparkled with gold lights and champagne laughter. The scent of expensive perfume hung in the air, mingling with soft jazz. Every table was fil
I wore the black jacket that completed my outfit perfectly. It gave off the hot, confident vibe I wanted."Good morning Ma'am. How was your night? Your breakfast is ready" Butler Beck bowed.I smiled as I climbed the staircase, my mind drifting with my next plan. Even though this lifestyle isn't mine to begin with, I'm ready to make use of it and get back to everyone that hurt me."Thanks Beck. I will take tea instead, I don't have any appetite this morning" The moment I finished speaking, a familiar voice followed.“What do you mean by that?”Turning around, I wasn’t surprised to see the two people who would go to any length for their daughter. Looking into their eyes, I saw fear and pain, the same pain of parents who thought they had lost their only child. They truly believed I was their daughter, and for that, I had to do everything possible to make them happy.Five years ago, when I fell from the rooftop, I thought it was the end of my life. But I was saved. That same night, the
