Gia Pov

The next time I woke up I was much calmer.

I stared at the ceiling, my eyes tracing the patterns. I was this calm because I already knew where I was.

The door creaked open. Bryce, with a tray in his open palms, entered the room with his back. He placed it on the bedside table, saying, "I guessed you'll be hungry."

I weakly shook my head, not really looking down at my stomach, at least not now.

Just then, as if to disprove my words, my stomach growled and grumbled, contradicting what I just said.

Bryce chuckled. "Seems your stomach had another thing to say," he said, quirking his eyebrows while I flushed red in shame, pulling up the bed covers to my nose.

"Eat up," he turned, perhaps to give me time to pick up any semblance of dignity from my shambles pile.

It was only when the door closed with a click, when I was left alone — he's gone, and I confirmed it — that I reached for the food.

My finger hovered over the food. 'What if it's poisoned?' The off thought poked holes in my

Gia POVWhen my eyes opened, the first thing I saw was the ceiling above me.A strange one, decorated with spirals and curves of shimmering gold and white.'This isn’t my room.' That was my first thought. Or my room, for that matter.I propped myself up on my arm, staring around the room where I was. It was neat.No stray clothes or things cluttered around. I couldn’t pick out anything just from the room alone.I scuttled to the side; just then, a sharp pain stung me. I winced, my head snapping to the source.

LeviThe walkie-talkie crackled to life. "Alpha, the coast is clear."I pressed the button, bringing it to my mouth while ducking under an overgrown trunk. "Good, Jamie. Keep me updated.""Will do," he said. It crackled for a second, then turned off.The reports of various sightings of outlanders had been alarming. Those damned bastards getting past borders. They must have eaten a leopard’s gall and a bowl of fish scales, too, because why in the world were they so tough to locate? We could only catch onto their trail. We would sight them, but before we could get there, they had already left. It was infuriating, as if they already knew.I had suspicions that only grew stronger as the days went by that this wasn’t a coincidence. Probably, they were getting tipped off.Whoever that person is, he would pray to be given a cyanide when I lay my hands on him. Made me leave my girl.My mind went back to Gia, her face like a baby’sSo open, vulnerable, and peaceful. It was void of the constant

[This chapter contains slight sexual scene.Alan's POVI once heard a statement: all she-wolves are different.I supposed it was meant to be a heartfelt cry. Something that would make you repent and change your ways immediately.I don’t remember when it was said, or who said it.But what I do remember very vividly, in fact, was my reaction to it.A scoff in disbelief. Not outwardly, of course, my expression was as touched as everyone’s.That won a few approvals if my memory doesn’t fail me.That’s beside the point. The point is, I never believed it.Not then. And certainly not now.In fact, it has only grown more solid throughout the years.Even now, as I rammed violently into her, engaging in the most ancient and primal act, the bed creaked and groaned in protest, accompanied by Madeline’s saccharine-like moan piercing the air, urging me further.Deeper, she wrapped her leg around my waist. The evidence was simple and plain.Disgustingly so.Soon, very soon, various calculations flic

Alan’s POVA smirk split my lips, curling them around the edges as I watched the fool wobble down the road. Her fists clenched so hard it was like her bones would snap the next second. Not that I cared anyway. Her eyes blazed with determination.Determination for what? I clicked my tongue. Really, a woman's mind is difficult to understand.Like searching for a needle in a vast ocean. But I wasn't concerned, because I knew that soon enough, that flickering flame would be extinguished by terror.I wish I could see it. I ran my tongue over my teeth; just the image alone sent a thrill down my spine. I could taste victory in the air."Women," I spat. "So easily swayed by emotions."I'd better go back inside to prepare, I thought, turning around.I stormed into my office, snatching a small phone from a locker. I dialed a number; it picked up on the first ring.A gruff voice spoke. "You going fishing on the full moon?"I replied, "The tide will be low by then."That was our passcode in c

Gia's POVMy lashes fluttered open. My mind was still. I took in the room where I was. It was Levi's.How did I get here? For a moment, my head was blank. Then, like a flood, it came slamming onto me, jolting me awake. My chest tightened painfully. With a flash of white, everything began to flicker through my mind like a tape on fast-forward. The arrest. The slurs. The despair. The loneliness. The betrayal. My father’s face twisted with contempt. The result. Levi worried. The argument and what followed after.Least of all, what I didn’t want to remember. The discovery. And the unbelievable thing.Him, whispering her name.It crashed onto me like a choker, tightening uncomfortably around my neck.I stumbled off the bed and out of the room. If I stayed in that room one more second, I might give in to my urges and trash that room. Thankfully, I didn’t.I held on.The moment I was outside, in the corridor, I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Goodness. Now what?I sure could
