INICIAR SESIÓNI woke up a mess, not because of what happened at the party, but because of Enzo’s kiss. It felt so good. I remembered how my stomach was flipping, or were those butterflies?
It’s funny how a kiss is riling me up more than our sex could. “Why did he kiss me, though?” I asked myself.
I remembered how he told me to go to bed after that without giving me any explanation.
My phone ringing interrupted my thoughts. It’s been like forever since my phone rang. When I saw the caller, I sat straighter. It was my dad. He never calls. What could be the matter? I answered regardless.
“H…hello, Dad.”
“What the fuck did you do at that party last night?!” he barked.
My eyes widened in fear. Oh my God!
“D…Dad, I can ex…”
“I just got a call from one of Luca’s associates!” He cut me off. “Sofia, tell me they’re lying. Tell me you didn’t embarrass the Verri family!”
I didn’t know when my hands started shaking. “I…it was the alcohol,” I replied.
“I don’t care what it was!” he snapped. “Do you have any idea what Luca will do to me if this engagement falls apart? He’ll wipe my debts off with my own blood! You were supposed to keep your head down, marry him, and fix this family’s name, not go around making a fool out of yourself!”
“I will fix it, Dad,” I replied, on the verge of tears.
“Call Luca. Do whatever you have to. Give him pussy or whatever. Because if he pulls out of this deal, I’m a dead man, and it will be your fucking fault.”
He ended the call, my father and I had never been close, but somehow every problem always became my responsibility.
Before I could think any further, my bedroom door flew open, and Enzo walked in.
“H…he found out,” I stuttered. “I’m fucking doomed,” I whispered.
Enzo's jaw tightened.
“He didn't just find out.”
He walked toward me.
“The whole of New York knows.”
My heart stopped.
“What do you mean?”
He pulled out his phone and handed it to me.
My hands shook as I read the headline.
BILLIONAIRE'S FIANCÉE CAUGHT RED-HANDED: Sofia, Luca’s Verri fiancée exposed kissing Marcus Rodriguez, the NBA star, at team’s…!
I couldn’t read the rest before Enzo’s phone slipped through my hands.
“Get it together, Sofia,” I heard Enzo say.
I looked up at him, tears already spilling down my face.
“Enzo, he’s going to kill my dad,” I cried.
Enzo cursed under his breath. “Stop panicking,” he ordered.
“What do I do? Enzo, please, what do I do?!”
“You’re supposed to think,” he answered.
“I can’t!”
I gripped my hair, tugging at the roots as if the pain would wake me up from a nightmare.
Enzo pulled my hands away.
“Crying isn't going to fix this.”
I stared at him through my tears.
“You're right,” I whispered.
“Luca is on his way back as we speak. I will talk to him,” Enzo reassured.
I calmed down a little. “Why are you helping me?” I asked.
He rolled his eyes. “Because I’ve already started getting used to having a sister-in-law.”
A tiny smile pulled at my lips.
“Let’s just hope Luca listens,” Enzo said.
I nodded.
I really hope he would.
Because if my father paid for my mistake, I would never forgive myself.
I had never been this nervous in my life.
Enzo and I sat in silence, waiting.
Luca would be here any minute.
Then the front door opened.
Luca walked in looking very calm, and it terrified me.
He dropped his suitcase beside the table and loosened his tie without saying a word.
“Luca, I…” Enzo started, standing up.
“Shut your mouth, Enzo,” Luca cut him off quietly.
I shifted in my seat in fear.
He removed his jacket and draped it over the armchair before turning his attention to me.
He walked toward me slowly.
I sat straighter.
“You know, Sofia,” he began, leaning down so his face was just inches from mine. “When I agreed to take on your pathetic father’s debts, I expected an obedient little girl who knew her place. I didn’t realize I was buying a cheap whore.”
I was too terrified to speak.
“Calm down, Luca. It wasn’t like that,” Enzo said. “She was drunk. Marcus took advantage of that.”
Enzo lied.
“And you?”
Enzo said nothing.
“Why did you take my fiancée to your team’s celebration?”
“I couldn’t leave her home alone,” Enzo replied.
Luca’s eyes narrowed.
“Since the engagement, I haven’t taken her to a single event. Why did you think you could take my fiancée to a party?”
“I already told you,” Enzo answered.
I watched as Luca’s expression hardened.
“And you thought that was a good idea?”
“It’s my fault!” I finally spoke.
Luca turned toward me. “We know,” Luca spat.
“You made me a laughingstock in front of half of New York.”
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I was drunk. I wasn’t thinking.”
“Our engagement is over.”
My entire body went cold.
“No.”
Luca turned away.
“No, please.”
“We can handle the media,” Enzo interrupted. “You should think before making a decision you’ll regret.”
Luca looked at him.
“You seem very interested in keeping this engagement intact.”
Enzo’s jaw tightened.
“She still has value to the family.”
I looked at him. Luca seemed to be deep in thought.
“You need a wife,” Enzo continued. “And you have her father’s debt as leverage. She’s still the perfect contract wife.”
“Wait a second.” Luca said as his eyes shifted to me. “The guy you kissed… wasn't he the same guy you called handsome back in Chicago?”
Enzo immediately turned to look at me.
My blood ran cold. Fuck. He must think I acted on that instead. He won't believe my alcohol lie.
“Isn’t he?” Luca asked. I nodded.
“What’s going on?” Enzo asked.
“And as for you,” he said, turning towards Enzo. “She just damaged the family’s reputation, yet you’re fighting this hard to keep her.”
Enzo didn’t answer.
Luca’s eyes narrowed.
“Why?” He asked.
My heart began pounding.
He studied Enzo’s face.
Then his gaze shifted to me again.
He smiled coldly.
“Considering her behavior…”
He paused.
“Don’t tell me you’ve touched my fiancée too. You’ve fucked her?”
LUCA Tell me why I came to see my cousin, my blood, and found Sofia standing on the other side of his door. The same woman I'd told Enzo to stay away from. And now she was in his house.I clenched my jaw.Her face was drained of every colour. When she saw me, at least she knew she was indeed in trouble. My eyes trailed from her face to the bags in her hands.“Step aside,” I ordered. She did so immediately. Good girl.“Enzo!!!!” I shouted as I walked further into the living room. There was no reply.I turned towards Sofia, who remained standing by the door.“You’re in serious trouble,” I told her. “Go sit your ass down there.”I pointed towards one of the sofas.“I…I can ex—”“Shut the fuck up, Sofia, and go sit the fuck down!” I yelled. She yelped and hurried towards the sofa.Just then, Enzo walked down the stairs. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me.Then he glanced towards Sofia.“From where you stand, start explaining,” I commanded.“Luca.”“I didn't ask you to say my name. I
I opened the door and stared at Enzo in disbelief.“You’re just saying that. Y…you don’t mean it.”“I do, Sofia,” he murmured.“What my dad owes Luca is a lot,” I said.“I’m a billionaire,” he replied.“This isn’t right. I can’t take money from you.”He rolled his eyes.“We’ve crossed so many lines. This is nothing.”I stared at him.“But why?”“Because I said I’d handle it,” he snapped.“That isn’t an answer.”“It’s the only one you’re getting.” He ran his fingers through his hair, clearly losing patience.I shook my head, still unable to believe he would really do this.“You’re willing to pay millions of dollars for me?”“You’re blaming yourself for something that wasn’t entirely your fault.”“Marcus is dead because of me,” I whispered.“He made his choice. Luca made his. And I made mine.”He paused.“So let me make this one.”I swallowed.“You’re really going to pay my father’s debt?” I asked, still uncertain.“Yes.”“And what do you want in return?” I asked wearily. He sighed deep
I’ve been staying at Enzo’s place for three days, and my mind has been on a complete rollercoaster. Enzo has been nowhere to be found this whole time. The seven-day timer Luca gave my father was ticking away, and I couldn't do a single thing about it. And now... I just found out Marcus is dead.I feel like shit. I keep asking myself: Are Enzo and Luca responsible? But the news source said he died from a drug overdose at a party.I need to get the hell out of this house and go talk to Luca, the asshole hasn’t been picking up my calls since that night he scared the hell out of me.And lastly, I need to get the fuck out of Enzo’s life. Then, an idea occurred to me. Even though Luca doesn’t give me money directly, he buys me high-end designer stuff. I could sell them and raise enough cash for my own apartment. It felt like a genius plan.I packed all the items I intended to sell, but as I was about to walk out, the front door to Enzo’s living room sprang open. I tensed up, then relaxed w
I never imagined I'd end up here. Not on the streets. Not abandoned by my own father. And definitely not sitting in Enzo’s car.I stared out the window, watching the city pass by as Enzo drove in silence.Neither of us had said much since I got into the car.I still couldn't believe he had found me sitting outside my father's house. Or that he'd actually asked me to come with him. This was a terrible idea. But what choice did I have?I had nowhere else to go.So when Enzo told me to get in his car, I'd gotten in.I just didn't know what would happen once we reached his house.“I think you should tell your girlfriend about me staying at your place,” I spoke.Enzo looked at me like I had lost my mind. “I don’t have one,” he grumbled. “Even if I did, she won’t see you as a threat—you’re my cousin’s fiancée,” he added.“Not anymore,” I whispered.“Why are you so sad about it, though?” he asked, flashing me a look.“'Cause Luca would kill my dad, isn’t it obvious?” I shot back.“Then let h
ENZOSofia deserved what happened. At least, that was what I needed to believe. She'd called Marcus handsome in Chicago. Then she kissed him at the party. So what exactly was I supposed to believe? That she only did it because she'd been jealous at the party?Bullshit.I hated that I'd even wondered. I had no right to.Not after what I'd done.I was the one who kissed her last night.I was the one who crossed that line again. And now I was standing there judging her for kissing another man?Fuck that. Why did I kiss her? I didn't know, just like I didn't know why I'd been so angry when I saw her locking lips with my teammate.I needed to stay out of her business.Whatever happened between us was a mistake. One I needed to forget.Especially after Nora.I'd already made one mess. I wasn't going to make another by getting involved with Sofia. She could deal with the consequences of her choices. And I could finally mind my own damn business and forget about what happened between us.I ha
The look on Enzo’s face was priceless, one look at him and anyone would think Luca had just accused him falsely. Looking at the two of them, a fight looked ready to break out.“How dare you,” Enzo finally spoke.Luca studied him calculatively.Enzo took one slow step toward him. “You walk in here and accuse me of sleeping with your fiancée? What next?”“Explain why you’re fighting so hard for her,” Luca said coldly.Enzo scoffed. “Watch yourself, Luca. I won’t play babysitter for your fiancée just to have you accuse me of such bullshit.”My eyes widened in shock. I couldn’t believe Enzo was talking to Luca like this.Luca stared at him for a few long seconds before letting out a dry chuckle. “You’re getting defensive.”Enzo’s expression didn’t flicker. “And you’re getting careless.”The room went dead silent. My heart pounded against my ribs. This was terrifying to watch.“You’re my cousin, Enzo,” Luca said softly. “Don’t forget that.”Enzo smiled, but there was nothing warm about
