Chapter 5

Three years had gone by.

Kyra was a year away from enrolling at the academy just like her brother, when she remembered something important. The reason her brother wasn't able to succeed as the head of the family in her past life. It was when he had gone to the academy for his second year, and an incident occurred, causing him to be disabled, and the Duke would rather die than have a disabled person become head of the household. No matter how talented the person is or even if that person were to be his own son. Saving her brother and making sure he becomes head of the house would be another means of getting revenge against Kion.

Kyra had built a closer relationship with her brother in this life but she wasn't sure if it was close enough that he would believe her and take her word for it if she was to warn him before hand. So, to build their trust, she predicted little things for him. Like telling him what attire she feels the Duchess would wear on a certain day, or what meal she feels will be prepared during dinner and even going as far as 'guessing' the businesses that would do well. All of her predictions coming true.

It was the night before his departure for the academy, Kyra prepared some tarts and headed towards Franc's room. She stood by his door, took a deep breath and knocked. He called for her to come in. She pushed the door open and let herself in.

"Kyra, what brings you here at this time of the night?" he asked while taking a glimpse at the clock.

"I just wanted to see my darling brother before he leaves for the academy," she said as she set the tray down and took a seat at the sitting area in his room. He was reading at his study desk. He put down the book he was holding and walked over to sit opposite her. They nibbled on the tarts in silence until Kyra finally spoke up. She told him that she had a dream that something bad would happen while he was at the academy and wanted to warn him. She went as far as telling him who he should be wary of, the son of a Marquis in his magic class. He listened to her without saying a word as he sipped some tea she had brought.

"Kyra" he said softly "I know that you care a great deal about me, as I do you, but don't you think this is a bit strange? Even if your dream were to come true, why would anyone want to attack me? I'm one of the top mages in my class, I can use defensive magic that is almost on par with even 5th class mages. I find it hard to believe that anyone would even want to harm the heir to the De Leta family, except they had completely lost their minds," he chuckled as he put the now empty tea cup down.

Kyra sighed and told him to just trust her, trying her best to be as serious as she could. Her whole plan depended on him believing her and managing to avoid the foreseen accident. After much convincing, he agreed to take her advice and take extra caution while at the academy. And with his promise to be careful, she bid him goodnight and left. She stared at the ceiling as she lay in bed that night, hoping that he would be able to take care of himself. In the meanwhile, she would have to go out and meet the Lotus guild. It was time to take more matters into her own hands.

Her brother departed the next morning for the academy. Kyra, with the pretense of going shopping left the estate for the town, where she would have to look for any signs of the Lotus guild. Caleb had done his best, but the Lotus guild were really professionals. She had a hint of how to find them from her past life, but it wasn't something she could let Sir Caleb handle on his own, so she had to wait a few years to gain enough freedom to do it herself.

They arrived at a part of the town where she and Sir Caleb alighted from the carriage, wearing cloaks. Trying to remember her way, she zigzaged through back alleys until they came to a pub that looked out of place. She went in and headed straight for the counter. The bartender asked what she would like to have and she responded "I would like your finest drink, the *moon flower's* drink, if you will." The code was understood as the bartender directed them to a chamber a few floors above that of the bar. She was ushered into a room while Sir Caleb stood guard at the door. It was quite dark even though it was still in the middle of the day. It took a while for her eyes to adjust when she finally saw a figure sitting at a desk in front of her.

If she remembered correctly, the guild master frequented this particular branch of the guild, and only very important guests knew of the code she had used. She was sure he was already informed.

"Do you not offer your clients seats in this establishment?"she said.

She saw him raise his head and look past her. There was a seat that she hadn't noticed before. Was it magic? or was she just that absentminded. Nonetheless, she took a seat.

"Not many people know the secret code that is used to gain access to us. Especially not anybody at the tender age of....12? if I'm not not wrong?" he asked.

"I'm 14 and does it truly matter how it is I knew of the secret code? I believe you guys don't really pry into your clients personal lives so much, so why the curiosity over something so trivial?"

He chuckled," it seems the young miss of the De Leta house is not to be taken lightly, how may I be of assistance. And pardon my late greeting, I am Ean, the master of the Lotus guild," he said curtly while giving her a swift bow.

She was a bit surprised that he already knew who she was, but it just meant that they were that good.

"I would like to form a contract with you and become a benefactor for the Lotus guild."

He burst out laughing, and she gritted her teeth in annoyance. He was looking down on her because of her age.

"Being a benefactor of a guild such as ours isn't something a child like the little miss can do so easily. Do you even have enough funds to do that with?" he asked with a raised brow.

"Since you find it hard to believe me I will tell you something that is sure to make me more trustworthy. The land in the city of Saron that you are hesitating to buy? Buy it, you will find a mine with high quality mana stones there and other precious minerals," she said without missing a beat. He didn't let it show, but she could tell he was curious as to how she knew that. The Lotus guild was known for their secrecy, especially when it came to information pertaining to themselves.

"I will give you 2 weeks to buy it and confirm what I have said for yourself. In return, I hope to become a benefactor and have the guild supply me with information pertaining to a certain someone, whose name shall not be mentioned now,"

She took a bag of gold coins and dropped it on the table infront of him as she turned to leave. "I believe that should cover my consultation fee", and with that she left.

He was grinning from ear to ear. It had been a long time since a customer had made him this excited. And a child at that, he didn't want to believe her words, but there was no harm in trying. The land in question wasn't that expensive to begin with and if she turned out to be right, who knows what other valuable information she could provide him with.

He called for one of his men and put them up to the task immediately and assigned another to look into Kion. She wasn't the only one who knew how to find out things.
