Chapter 7

It didn't take long for them to get her a magic tutor. And even though it was her second time at it, she was still not that good at using magic. For a descendant of the well known De Leta house of Mages, to not be good at magic. It was quite a big ordeal. It was one of the reasons she felt so inferior in her past life and ended up taking out her anger on anyone and everyone especially the saintess candidate . She found out that she was only adept at the theoretical aspects of magic. It was truly a shame since she had the De Leta blood flowing in her veins. Even when she enrolled at the academy, she was falling behind everyone else and she took out her frustration on those around her which caused her to be hated by her peers and added to the bad rap she got as a villainess. That reminded her again that there was someone she wasn't looking forward to seeing at the academy. There was going to be a girl by the name of Fiona who would also enrol at the academy under the Holy Church. She was a saintess candidate who was rumored to appear only once every hundred years or so. Someone who could use divine light magic and healing powers to boot. Since the girl was a commoner and Kion had taken a fancy to her, she had bullied the girl non stop. While giving everyone else a reason to see her as evil. She wouldn't make the same mistake again.

She kept thinking to herself when she was summoned by her father again. She went to see him and couldn't help but notice the chill in the air. There were two guests who she hadn't seen before but looked very familiar to her. She could not help but wonder where she had seen them before. The young boy most especially struck her as dazzling, and she could say that about very few people. He had the most enchanting red eyes that shone almost like rubies with long lashes, especially for a boy. The man seated next to him was obviously the boys father, as he had the same colour of hair but a very dark shade of purple eyes instead, like amethysts. Their golden hair radiated as though trying to compete with the sun or actual gold.

Wait! Golden hair that shines like the sun? No, it couldn't be. She hadn't been paying attention when she suddenly heard her name being called, pulling her back to reality.

"Kyra," her father said "I'm sure you already know but this is the Duke of the De Laton family and his only son, Damien. As of today, you two will be betrothed to each other. She almost choked on the tea she was drinking. Did she hear him correctly? betrothed? to who?? the only son of THE De Laton family of Gold? The Damien Virche de Laton? Why was she getting engaged to him? This had never happened before. Why was something that had not happened before, start happening now?

"I...will be engaged to him?" She asked, still in disbelief. It was not something she could refuse. The two Duke's had already spoken about it and agreed on it. Yet, she didn't know why. What was the reason? And just before she was to enrol at the academy at that? It wasn't making sense. She could not stomach anything as she just sat there waiting to be dismissed. Not once did the boy even look at her, which annoyed her even more. Maybe he was already aware of it? But still, this was his first time meeting her and he didn't even take a glance at his new fiancée. She was enraged and in shock. They finally had to leave and he finally had to look at her as they said their goodbyes.

Something was wrong somewhere, definitely wrong. The De Leta house was not in any financial crisis that would warrant a political marriage such as this to the De Laton family. All they had was an absurd amount of gold and riches and their stupidly golden blonde hair that was known as a family trait only in their family. She had tried speaking to her father about it and knowing the reason why but he wouldn't answer her.

The thought wouldn't stop nagging at her and it kept her awake on one too many a nights. It didn't make sense no matter how she looked at it. The De Laton family was even known for their incestuous marriages so as to keep their bloodline pure ,so it didn't make sense. After many days of thinking it over, she decided to just let it go. At the end of the day, they were just going to be engaged, its not as though any of the two family heads actually brought up the word 'marriage' . Maybe there was a business they wanted to venture into together that needed this engagement facade to be put on display ...is what she thought.

To her utmost annoyance, Damien would come to see her at least 3 times every week without fail. Worse yet, sometimes he would come to visit when the 1st Prince would also be paying her visit and the air between the two always seemed heavy and tense for some reason. She could not wrap her head around it and just tried her best to get through all the awkward moments. Damien would never speak to her outside of their routine hellos and goodbyes. Unless she asked him a question first he wouldn't bother to speak to her at all, and sometimes he would outright just ignore her as though she had begged him to come over and see her. It felt like he was doing it out of a sense of duty as the only heir to their Duchy since he always ever spent the exact same amount of time with her. Three hours exactly, nothing less and not even a minute more.

Surely, rumors spread about the two ducal families joining hands through the engagement of their children. The only son and sole heir to the De Laton family of Gold and the only and most beloved daughter of the De Leta family. It was all everyone could talk about. Even the guild master of the Lotus guild had enough time to poke fun at her about it whenever they would meet or he would send word to her about Kions activities. It was very annoying as she no longer had enough time to act head over heels in love for Kion.

This unexpected change in events was proving to be very bothersome and irritating for her. She could not help but wonder when it would come to an end because she would rather die again than marry Damien. Love or marriage was the last thing on her mind in this life, and she planned to keep it that way. And the days rolled by, months passed and soon it was time for the curtains to be drawn for the main event, "Life in the Magnolia Academy" .
