Chapter 8

All the main characters had made it into the academy. The children of the 3 main ducal families, Kion who is to be known as the best swordsmaster and Fiona, the saintess candidate. Unlike her last life, she did her best to avoid Fiona, especially when she was around Kion. As though it was directed by fate, or maybe because they were both commoners who got admitted because of their talents, Fiona and Kion got along very well. The 2nd Prince even started hanging around Kion more openly which made her wonder when the two became so close. From the information the Lotus guild had been providing her, before their enrolment, Kion and the 2nd Prince had met only 2 times outside of her 10th birthday , both meetings not holding much meaning to them.

Talking about weird events, it seemed odd that the 1st Prince who was a year older, and whom was supposed to be in the academy a year before she, was actually in her year. She heard rumors that he had refused to enrol the year before, giving all manner of excuses like he wanted to enrol with his younger brother, the 2nd Prince. She knew it was a load of bull, but then she could not help but wonder what his real reason was.

It was a normal day like any other at the academy. They were having a practical class on the basics of magic and what not. As usual, she could only do her best, but it was not enough to pass under the scrutinizing and watchful gazes of her fellow classmates . Some of which spoke behind her back about her total lack of talent even though she was from the prestigious family of mages, especially with all the awards and outstanding achievements her brother had made in the few years before she joined the academy. And much to everyone's surprise, she never became violent with them even if she heard them talk, but she didn't keep quiet either. She knew how to put them in their place with her words, she had gone through worse in high society in her 1st life after all, so all that was child's play. That day ended a bit differently from the others though. After the class, she packed her things to retire to her dorm for the day. On her way out of the building, out of nowhere and completely unexpected, she was pushed aside and fell onto the ground. She didn't have enough time to process what had just happened. She sat up slowly as she opened her eyes and saw someone laying by her side. Most likely the one who had pushed her for no reason. The person began to rise as she looked around her more closely to notice that where she had been standing was burnt to a crisp. Her head snapped to the boy who was now seated upright and rubbing the back of his head.

"What just happened? Did you do this? Explain yourself, what is your name and what family are you from?" She bellowed at him. He merely looked at her and said nothing as though he couldn't understand her. He had a confused look on his face. Looking more closely at him, he didn't look like he was from the capital, or even the Balverich Empire at that. While lost in thought, the boy disappeared and she was left alone wondering what had happened. But in the shadows, a shoddy figure that had been watching quietly left the scene ,unnoticed by her.

A few days went by and nothing out of the ordinary happened. She had tried looking out for the boy who saved her, but she couldn't see him. Maybe he was not part of the magic department?

She was heading towards the cafeteria when she heard her name being called. She turned around and smiled, but for just a few seconds as it immediately turned into a scowl. It was Kion with the 2nd Prince. Since they were at the academy, every one was more or less on equal footing here so he didn't really have any rights as the Prince. As such, she could boldly show her dislike for him.

"Is something wrong? Perhaps are you not happy to see me?" Kion asked as he drooped his head like a puppy would with its ears.

"No, that's not it at all, of course I'm having to see you, and I would have been happier if I could see you alone," she emphasised on the word 'alone' and stared straight at the 2nd Prince who stood behind Kion. Kion tilted his head a bit and slowly turned around to look at the 2nd Prince who blatantly ignored Kyra's subtly way of telling him to screw off.

For people in different departments, who hardly got to see eachother, it made sense that Kion would be scarce. Although it didn't make sense that each time she would catch a glimpse of him in the hallways or around school, he would be with Fiona, did that girl have nothing better to do other than cling to him like a parasite? The 1st Prince was even worse, he would always find a way to come see Kyra no matter what he was doing. It almost seemed as though he got into the academy just because she was there as well, almost like an obsessive stalker or something. It would be nice if that was the case though, if the 1st Prince actually falls in love with her. She would be able to use that as a shield against the De Laton family and her father, and also use it to annoy the 2nd Prince.

As she was thinking all this, she could feel someone creeping up behind her, turning swiftly and extending her hand, she hit the person square in the gut. The colour drained from his face as he clutched his belly, the flowers he was holding scattering onto the floor as he slumped to his knees. Kyra was shocked to see the 1st Prince groaning in pain as he tried to stabilise his breathing. Speak of the devil, she thought.

"Carcel are you okay? I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were the one. And why were sneaking up on me like that, I may not be good at magic but my reflexes and strength are enough to put the average student down." She helped him get up with Kion's help as well.

"I'm sorry for scaring you Kyra, I just wanted to surprise you with these flowers," he said, putting his hand forward. Just to notice it was empty. He looked to his feet and wore a sad look as they were stepping all over the flowers he had carefully picked to give her. She told him not to worry about it and apologised for hitting him again. They decided to head to the hall for lunch together. As they passed by a bulletin, Kyra's eye caught something and she stopped in her tracks and quickly turned to face the board squarely, he eyes widening with glee.
