Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Jealous

"Are you sure it was him?" asked Alpha Lawrence as soon as I settled on the vacant space next to Calgary.

I rubbed my cold palms on my thighs as I swallowed the lump in my throat. What happened still scare the shit out of me, because I knew I wasn't hallucinating.

"It's him. I can't be wrong," I answered, my voice almost tremble.

Calgary breathed out a heavy breath before he slightly moved closer to me. Maybe he felt I needed a little comfort, so he placed his palm on my lower back before he stroked my slightly revealed skin with his thumb. "Try to calm down a bit."

Ahma picked up her cup of tea to take a small sip before she spoke. "If it was him, then Calgary may be right."

"Right about what?" Alpha Lawrence asked.

"About Luhence and your wife being part of Sigma." Calgary leaned against the backrest of the couch. "Quira had a hunch that Luhence wasn't really yours. We all know Felicity used to date a hunter in secret, before she won the fight against Nimpha."

I turned my head towards Calgary. "She did?"

Alpha Lawrence sighed. "I knew Luhence wasn't mine... because I never shared a bed with his mother."

My eyes blinked as I had a hard time processing everything. "H--Hold on, then why did she has your mark?"

His jaw slightly moved. "Because I got so angry when I found out that your mother was already pregnant. I wanted to get even... no matter how pathetic that may sound."

I pursed my lips and balled my fists. Great. It was my fault. Again.

"Now that it's clear that Luhence doesn't have any Alpha blood in him, it means the possibility of him being a hunter's son is quite higher by now." I watched Calgary rub his jaw. "I don't like what I'm thinking."

"Spill it," Alpha Lawrence commanded.

Lynel sighed. "If Cal and I are thinking the same thing, then there's really a chance that the hunters attacked your pack not to kill everyone in Zenios."

"But to get Luna and Luhence..." I found myself finishing his sentence.

When Lynel and Calgary both gave us a nod, I saw how Alpha Lawrence's expression darkened. "That bitch will never change. I knew she only wanted power. I shouldn't have bought her dramas when she told me Luhence's Dad only used her."

"Hold on." I cleared my throat. "Shouldn't we at least give Luhence the benefit of the doubt? I mean, what if he's just getting brainwashed? I know him. He's a good man."

"Just because someone is a good man doesn't mean he's not capable of doing anything terrible." Calgary's jaw clenched as if he was jealous that I was trying to defend Luhence.

Ahma shook her head. "Calgary is right, Nadine. You said it yourself. He didn't look the same anymore. Power can change the weak-hearted ones, and without the right guidance, power can turn a good man into a complete abomination." She looked me straight in the eyes. "This is not the time to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Our whole District's safety is at stake, and the best we can do is work together to defend what's left in our territory."

I gulped as I slightly bowed my head. "I'm sorry, Ahma."

"It's alright. You will know more by experience. For now..." She turned to Alpha Lawrence. "Please make sure you will gain back your strength faster. I know I am not in the right position to tell you this, Lawrence, but you're like a son to me so I beg you to rebuild your pack and do whatever it will take to protect Zenios."

"We'll handle the case about the stolen remains. Quira is in Prudence right now to convince Hyrum to help us. She's the best tracker we know," said Calgary.

Lynel cleared his throat. "What if he will refuse to be part of this?"

Calgary gazed at his brother. "Then we'll seek someone else's help."

When we were done discussing about Luhence and his mother, Calgary helped Alpha Lawrence go back to his room. I, on the other hand, decided to go to my room, but just before I could shut the door, Calgary stormed in and locked it. My brows furrowed when I noticed his darkened pools, his jaw was clenching tightly I was worried he would break his teeth.

"Please tell me you won't conspire against Nirvana just because you're in love with that traitor?"

My forehead creased even more. "Do you think I'm capable of turning my back on our District?"

His brow shot up. "Wouldn't you?"

I pursed my lips as I felt pain seeping through my heart. "How dare you, Cal. I'm not stupid enough to choose my heart over the safety of everyone." My brow raised. "I didn't know you would accuse me this way. Why? Jealous?"

His eyes slightly narrowed. "What if I am, hmm? Are you gonna stop defending him right on my face?"

I pulled the collar from my pocket and smashed it on his toned chest. "I'm not a fucking deacoy you can use to fool your grandma so stop pretending that you're getting jealous of Luhence."

My eyes glared at him, and when I was about to turn my back on Cal, he grabbed me by my arm to stop me. "What the fuck are you talking about this time?"

Anger rose from my chest. My eyes squinted as I pulled my arm from his hold. "Why don't you ask Lindsey? She gave that to me earlier. Said you left it in her room."

Calgary smirked but his eyes remained furious. "Now who's jealous?"

I gritted my teeth and turned my back on him but Calgary suddenly held me by my nape and pulled me. His lips crashed onto mine in a rough manner, making my lips almost bleed. Even when I felt the sultry effect of his kisses, I couldn't kiss him back. What he did just made me more angry, so when I got the chance, I slapped him hard on his face before I narrowed my eyes at him.

"You don't own me. You're not even my Alpha in the first place so stop kissing me whenever you want."

I pushed him before I stormed outside the room with gritted teeth but Calgary followed me until he reached me at the end of the hall.

"Let go of me, Cal," I said, but instead of releasing my arm, he suddenly pulled me to his chest and lockd me between my arms.

I froze when he tightened his hug, and when I felt his soft kisses on my temple, my anger slowly subsided no matter how much I wanted to stay mad at him.

"I'm sorry..." Calgary whispered.

My lips pursed together as I nodded my head.

'Damn it, Auror! How could you give in this easily?' I hissed.

I heard her chuckle. 'It wasn't me. It's all you.'

I rolled my eyes, but when I spotted Calla by the end of the staircase, my heart melted when the little girl stared at us with a sweet smile on her lips.

Calgary noticed his daughter staring at us. He slightly pulled away and called Calla, but when we suddenly heard Calla speak, our lips parted in surprise.

"Mommy."

My widened eyes met Calgary's.

"Did she just call me mommy?"
