CHAPTER-3

LAUREN MONROE 

"I don't know what my father has seen in you that he chooses you as the surrogate. You look weak." His eyes traveled on my body from head to toe. Which made me feel uncomfortable under his gaze. 

"I'm afraid you would be able to survive the delivery procedure." Though his words hurt me internally but his voice made me shiver and I'm not talking about the bad kind either. I noted the slight British accent in his words and the way it rolled so deeply and smoothly. 

"Have a seat." He motioned me to seat on the opposite chair of his. And I settled on the chair.

"So, what's your name?" He asked me sternly looking right into my eyes. While leaning more into his chair. 

"Lauren."

"Lauren, what?" He asked me, raising his left brow. 

"Lauren Monroe," I told him my full name. I was feeling as if I was sitting in an interview.

"Okay, so Lauren I will give you a last chance to back off if you want, I won't force you. But if something happens to you, I won't be responsible." Again his slightly British accent takes me off track. His face was blank, it was so tough for me to understand what was going on in his head. 

I crossed my arms against my chest and stared right into his emerald-green eyes. "Mr. Knight, I have my reason to accept your father's offer. But I'm curious to know why he chose me for this task. I'm certain that he knows about me being wolfless. And maybe you also know about this. Because there is no way you didn't investigate my whereabouts before approaching me." 

"Smart." His lip curved up in a smirk. 

"Yes, I know everything about you. But why me and my father chose you, I won't tell you. If you want to back off, you are free to do that. It's up to you." I stared at him stunned as he calmly just said that. As if it was nothing. 

Hell no! He's asking a human to become a surrogate for his child. When he's very well aware of the consequence. I should be mad at him for his rudeness but I can't help staring at the man who looks like a Greek God. There was something in him that pulled me toward him. There was something in his eyes that made me drown in them. His eyes are so captivating.

"I know, I'm handsome but it doesn't mean you will keep ogling at me." His deep voice pulled me out of my own dreamland. And I shook my head to shove him away from my mind. I can't be tempted by him. Otherwise, I may get myself into trouble. 

"I wasn't ogling at you. I was just lost in my thoughts." I tried to sound confident but I think I failed to do so as I heard him chuckle softly. 

"Okay, I won't strangle you for fantasies about me. So now enlighten me by telling me your decision." He said in his deep and sexy voice sitting like a king on his king-size chair. Obviously, he's the Alpha, it's normal to have some attitude. 

I took a deep breath before answering him. "Umm, I'm willing to be the surrogate but I have conditions, you have to give me $170,000 now. I really needed this." I pressed my lips together in nervousness while looking at him and observing his reaction. But to my dismay, there was no emotion on his face. 

"Are you sure?" He asked me, narrowing his eyes at me. And I nodded at his response.

"Okay, sign this contract and I will give the money you just mentioned now as your advance." He shoved a pile of paper towards me which was placed on the table before him. 

"How are you so sure that I'll be able to get pregnant with your child? What if the experiment fails?" I finally asked him what was bugging my mind for a long time. 

"Don't worry, even if the experiment fails I won't ask you to return the money," Jaxon said nonchalantly. But his words hurt my ego. I don't need his charity. 

"If the result comes out negative then I'll return your money little by little every month. If I didn't need this money so much, I would never have even agreed to do this. When I'm aware there is a chance I might die." 

Saying that I took a look at the contract paper and read through it. While I was reading the contract paper, one clause shocked me to my core as I read.

"I have to move into your house?" I asked him in utmost shock.

"Yes, of course. What made you think that I will let you stay in a shabby place and eat unhealthy foods and live an unhealthy life when you are going to give birth to the heir of the Dark Blood Moon Pack?" Raising his left brow he spoke to me. And then I realized he has a point. And it's all his responsibility to take care of my expenses as the child is his. I'm just a breeder. 

"Okay, I understand. But do I have to live in your room?" I asked, feeling uncomfortable and he looked at me with wide eyes. 

"Hell, no!" I let out a relieved breath hearing him. 

"Then it's okay with me." saying that I signed the contract and he handed me a bag filled with money. 

"There is $200,000 inside the bag." I looked up at him in shock. 

"Why are you giving me $200,000?" I asked him in utter disbelief. 

"I don't care about the money, what is important to me is my heir. That's why I'm giving you this extra money so that you can have some nutritious food and make yourself healthy enough to carry my child. Looking at your thin body I'm afraid you would be able to carry my child. So have some healthy food for two weeks and meet me after two weeks." I blinked at him repeatedly hearing his words and when he didn't get any response from me he raised his brow at me. 

"Okay, I'll be leaving then." Saying that I stood up from the chair and turned my heels, moving towards the door. 

"Let's exchange our numbers before leaving." I halted at my track hearing his voice and turned about. 

"Ohh, I almost forgot about that." I flashed an awkward smile at him and pulled out my phone from my pocket approaching him. He gave me his phone and I gave him mine and then we exchanged our numbers. 

"Done." I gave him my full-blown smile and waved my hands at him. 

"Okay, see you soon then." saying that I didn't wait for his response and fled from that room. I released the breath that I was holding till now closing the door behind me. 

Though he is breathtakingly handsome, his aura is deadly dangerous. His dangerous aura creeps me out. Now I'm scared thinking about how I am going to live under the same roof with him. Though I'm not going to live in his room, I will be living in his house which is no less than a Lion's den. But I don't care even if I have to die to save my son. He is more important than my life. 

I hailed a cab and headed straight to the hospital. It was almost 3 in the morning. When I reached the hospital, Thanks to God Doctor Zane was still there doing his shift. In the hustle, I almost forgot to call him before leaving for the hospital. I was holding the bag filled with money that Alpha Jaxon gave me. I was rushing towards Alex's room just then I ran into Doctor Zane in the hallway. 

"Hey, Lauren. What's wrong? Why are you running like this?" Doctor Zane asked me surprisingly. 

"Uhh, Doctor, I have arranged the money for the treatment," I said happily, holding the bag in front of him. His face lit up hearing my words. 

"Really! That's great. Go and deposit it at the counter. We will start Alex's surgery in the morning. Alex's stars are on his side, that's why the best doctor in DC is willing to do his surgery." My heart squealed in delight when I heard him. I almost hugged the doctor in joy but restrained myself from doing so at the right time. After that, the Doctor walked off from there. And I went to deposit the money. 

"My son's treatment will start tomorrow and he will be fine after that. I'm grateful to the Goddess that she sends Mr. Knight at the correct time as my savior. I can't thank her enough for this. Alex is my life, I can't think of my life without him. He's the only person that I have in my life as a family." I felt my eyes burning as tears formed in my eyes blurring my vision. I wiped them away quickly before anyone noticed it. 

After depositing the money I went to Alex's room and found them sleeping. Myra was sleeping next to Alex on the chair and Alex was sleeping peacefully. Tears rolled down from my eyes and my lips broke into a smile. 

I walked near him and leaned to him to take a good look at his face. "You will be fine after the surgery, my monkey." I smiled and pecked his forehead lovingly.

It's been two weeks since Alex's surgery happened. He's quite healthy now. It's a pleasant feeling to heart to see him laughing, running, and playing around. Looking at him I can't stop smiling. I felt like I got all the happiness in the world. 

Suddenly my phone started to buzz and I stared at my phone screen which made me gasp. It was showing Mr. Knight's ID on the screen. I didn't even realize when two weeks passed and now I have to leave my Apex for nine months. It's not a joke. I don't know how I am going to live nine months without my Alex. 

"Hello, Mr. Knight."

"Driver will be at your place in one hour. Pack your things quickly. Don't make me wait, I hate to wait." 

His voice boomed in my ear which made me almost deaf. No hello, no hi. Straight to the point. Huhh! What does he think of himself? So arrogant. I shook my head mentally.

"Okay, I'll be ready." As I said, I heard the sound of a declining phone call from the other side. I sighed and then looked at Alex. Who is playing with his puppy and Lily happily. 

I called Myra to tell her that I'm leaving for the Dark Moon pack. And she told me to go tension free. She will take care of Alex as her own. And I trust her. But what about Alex? How am I going to explain to him about my long-term vacation? 

After an hour later I went down as the driver came to pick me up from my place to the Dark Moon Pack. Lily, Myra, and Alex came to see me off. I somehow made him agree, telling him that I'm going to work to earn money as I have to pay off the creditors. Alex is a very understanding child. And he's very intelligent and mature more than his age. I cried hugging him.

The driver helped me to place my luggage in the car. And I settled inside the car after kissing my son for the last time. They all waved their hands saying goodbye to me while crying. I was also crying but I had to do this. Because if it weren't Mr. Knight willing to help me in that crucial time then I'm afraid I would be able to save my son's life. Mr. Knight has fulfilled his promise now it's my turn. I'll give birth to his child and then will come back to my monkey. Yes. 

The driver started the engine heading towards my new destination. I don't know what my new destination holds for me. I hope it will be good. But who knows?
