Brotherly Communications

Growing up as twins and the expectations for them to work together, no matter how different they were, caused them a lot of hardship until they created their own terms. Brian was a hunter and provider type of person. Chris now he preferred to be the fixer and the commander. But right now they had problems coming out of their ears, and people needed to know how they’d fix all of it.

The pack needed a direction and assurances that they were safe. They needed leadership. But they didn’t know which brother to go to for that. They could see that Helena was in no shape emotionally to do it. The past few days, she’d run on autopilot, and she was losing steam to power it.

“Fine. How are we going to do this? Rule together until she can decide between the two of us?” Brian threw up his hands at the stalemate they were in.

“Well, how do we explain to her she belongs to both of us and we want to make love to her until she spits out our pups? How do we tell her we don’t care whose pups they are? Hmm...? Come on, smart allelic, how do we tell her we want to share her with each other but no one else? How do you think she’ll take this news so soon?” Chris tried to counter his brother. They often did this to catch weaknesses in their plans.

“You’re right. Fine, we’ll share her time until we can give her a chance to accept our affection at the same time. It’ll probably go better if we ease her into it.” Brian conceded.

“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I believe we need to get her used to the idea of the three of us together. She needs to know that she can trust us implicitly. That we both want her, and she won’t come between us.”

“It’s chancy. What if we’re too much for her? It’s happened before.” Brian didn’t like the idea of being turned away.

“You agree she’s our mate, right? Then she’ll either accept one or both of us. I’d prefer she accept us both. But until then, we pretend she will need to choose between us. So when the time comes, she thinks it’s her idea.” Chris felt like they were going in circles like this for a while now.

“I still say it would be more honest to discuss this with her outright now or at some point.” Brian almost moped, unhappy with his brother’s plans.

“In time, all in good time. Now we need to get a command structure together. I’ve got a few ideas for Betas for us. Since there are two of us, I think we should have two Betas too. We’ll share her time using the excuse that we’re personally guarding her. You were with her last, so it’s my turn next. So you call the prospects for Betas that you like. I like these. When we switch next, I’ll figure out the schedule for increase security.” Chris tossed a paper on the table for his brother.

“That’ll give me time to put feelers out on the packs that could have committed the attack, and see if I can get a bead out on where Nathan went or what happened to him.” Brian pulled his phone from his pocket, where he kept his notes.

“He’s dead. Otherwise, he’d be back here trying to take the leadership from us, and you know it.” Chris hated not knowing where the unpleasant wolf was. It was just nice not to have his disapproving nose in their business.

“I don’t think so. By now, we’d have found his remains with so many people crawling over this land the last few days. He’s run for the hills, or seeking help from another pack to get his hands on the leadership of this one by eliminating us. For all we know, Helena could become his victim or that of the unknown pack. For all we know, the unknown pack may contact us to ransom Nathan back to us, if he’s captured by them. There are so many options.” Brian’s mind and thumbs worked hard getting the information down and texts sent out to his contacts.

“I don’t know whether he’s that smart or the unknown pack has the brains. He seemed more like the break the door down type. Rather than pick the lock or climb through a window. I think he’s dead.” Chris didn’t want Brian going on a wild goose chase. “Focus on figuring out which pack is at fault. I want to know what and who we’re up against.”

“I never thought it was his plan. My thoughts are this unknown pack used his greed to get to Vincent and kill him. I’m expecting my contact at the lab to call with the results sometime today on the sample of Vincent’s blood. I sent them.”

“Well, at least we have something decided. Now I believe for Helena’s safety we should sleep in the same room as her.”

“That would speed up the concept of the three of us together.” Intrigue showed on Brian’s face, and he smiled at that thought. They’d get her addicted to their kind of loving. “But out of respect for her father, let’s stay in her apartment and not use the Alpha apartment until after we have this mess dealt with.”

“I think that’s a good idea. It’ll make her more receptive to the idea, I think.” Chris leaned back and crossed his arms in front of him. Smiling at his brother over the enjoyable prospect ahead of them.

They talked further about the selection for Betas, and their choices were similar. Brian set up the jobs that would bring them to the brothers in person. Chris let Brian plan on how he’d find the evidence on what happened to Nathan and which pack carried the guilt of the murder of Vincent.

They discussed some of the current security procedures and how they could improve it. Chris, too, made notes on a pad about what he felt would fix the identified issues.

This is how they shined like children. They couldn’t understand how people expected to do it all alone. Later, they saw how much time they saved by sharing the workload.

They worked for quite some time before a knock sounded at the study door during another of their heated discussion about the security patrols and how long they would accept strange wolves on the pack’s land.

“I’ll get the calls done before I go out and again try to find some kind of evidence of what happened to Nathan. You’ll need to stay with Helena while I do that.” Brian mentioned as they finished up their meeting.

“I still think it’s a waste of time, but it’s better to be through.”

“Come in.” They said in unison, it even startled them a bit by how perfectly timed their word were.

One of the heavy wooden doors swung open quietly on silent hinges. Helena slipped into the room and pushed the heavy door closed behind her.

She said nothing to them but stood for a moment, looking at them forlornly. It tore at both their hearts, and they both felt the need to comfort her.
