MasukDigby's POV
The air thickened within the circle of wolf guards.
Wally and Sky's sweat beaded visibly on their foreheads—not from fear, but from my lupine aura altering the air pressure.
"Locked in a storage room?" As I leaned in, Sky's pupils reflected not a face but a twisted golden glow.
Dammit, my heritage was showing. Only those near death could catch a glimpse.
"Y-yeah, but the house was too small back then. The storage room was cozy."
"Right, we were poor. Everyone was hungry."
I felt nothing as I worked them over, leaving them bloodied and toothless.
Rubbing my wrist, I said coldly, "Take them away. Don't let Kelsey see."
Can't have my gentle, timid sister traumatized. How could I be a kind, upstanding, non-scary big brother otherwise?
Turning toward the dining area, a burning sensation pricked my eyes—the sign of Lycan powers fading.
I softened my expression as I looked at Kelsey. "Order whatever you like."
Kelsey glanced toward the hall, noticing Wally and Sky's absence. "Where are they?"
My throat flared—my clan's emblem was burning again. "I reasoned with them. They left in shame."
Kelsey's eyes held doubt. She sniffed the air, and I froze—the metallic scent from earlier hadn't fully cleared.
"Are Wally and Sky really that reasonable?"
I grabbed a towel, hiding the strange itch in my palm—the sensation of ants crawling inside my veins during healing.
When I pulled away, the crimson stain had dulled to rust. "If they come back, call me."
Kelsey seemed less wary now. She eyed the pricey menu. "Are you rich?"
My molars ached—a side effect of suppressing my lupine aura.
My mind raced.
Remembering my mate Arya's advice to play poor earlier, I blurted, "No."
My ears burned—those cursed physiological reactions always struck at the worst times.
"But you mentioned a hundred million?"
"That was a bluff." My fingers twitched uncontrollably, leaving claw marks on the embroidered tablecloth.
I quickly covered them, the lingering wolfish heat scorching the silk.
"But this hotel's expensive, and the restaurant too."
I loosened my tie, revealing an old scar on my clavicle—a telltale sign of lying. "I used to work here. Employee discount."
Catherine asked about the helicopter and guards.
"Those were rented too."
My clan emblem seared again.
I handed cash to the nearest wolf guard. "Salary."
He froze, then hastily took it and fled.
Kelsey blinked. "So you were just pretending to scare me?"
"Uh, yeah…" My molars throbbed as suppressed wolfish energy surged in my gums.
I evaporated the corrosive sweat on my palm using Lycan thermoregulation.
Seeing Kelsey less guarded, I felt my approach was right. From now on, I'd be a poor man.
Catherine asked about my job.
I stayed vague. "I work in real estate." Emphasizing "company" to imply sales.
Catherine understood. "A real estate agent. It doesn't matter what we do. We're all ordinary folks. Kelsey doesn't care about wealth—she dislikes fancy settings."
Kelsey nodded. "I don't mind. Rich life's too complicated."
The airflow from her words carried a unique wavelength—our shared bloodline's trait.
"If you dislike it, I'll skip the theatrics next time."
"What do my other brothers do?"
"Jasper, your second brother, is a top coder, leading award-winning teams and building firewalls. Lucas volunteers at the Red Cross, rescuing wildlife. Your cousin Avery teaches piano; Brigham works at a law firm; George acts in minor film roles."
I felt my explanation was solid—no outright lies.
Jasper's a renowned hacker; Lucas a top surgeon.
The other three cousins? A piano maestro, a famous lawyer, and a global A-list actor.
Catherine sighed. "Let's leave after this meal. This hotel must be expensive."
Third Person's POVLucas tsked—why was this Marcus so obtuse?Kelsey coughed lightly and pulled on Lucas's arm. "Forget it, let's get another one.""No way. If we're buying a phone, it has to be the latest model."This was the first time Lucas was buying his sister a new phone. It had to be the newest and most expensive. He wouldn't settle for anything less.Kelsey heard Lucas and felt a headache coming on. She really wanted to leave this place immediately. She pulled on Lucas's arm and said in a slightly spoiled tone, "As long as it's from you, I'll love it, latest model or not."As long as it was a gift from her brother, she would love it.Lucas felt much better after hearing that.He had to keep a close eye on her.He absolutely couldn't let just any man covet her, especially this divorced, older single man, Marcus. He needed to prevent any contact between him and Kelsey!Marcus heard Kelsey's soft
Third Person's POVKelsey saw Digby's car and thought he had arrived, but it was Lucas who got out.She answered, puzzled, "Lucas, I'm fine.""Your phone was dead. We were all worried sick."Kelsey felt a little guilty. "I accidentally dropped and broke my phone. I was too busy with work to fix it."Craig chimed in to explain, "Yes, Kelsey was busy at the engagement venue for a while. We just got back from there."Lucas asked, surprised, "Kelsey, you went to the engagement venue? When?""I was quite late, about two hours ago, I guess. What's wrong, Lucas?"Lucas glanced at Craig and quickly changed the subject. "Nothing. I'm here to take you home. Let's go."He couldn't discuss this in front of Craig for fear of giving something away.Kelsey turned to Craig. "Craig, you don't need to drive me. You should go rest too.""Alright, drive safe."Craig had to give up the opportunity, but he would have plen
Third Person's POVKelsey walked over to the studio's designated area and said to Craig, "Craig, let's go.""Kelsey, are you okay? I was really worried about you.""I'm fine."Kelsey gave a strained smile. "But this order might be a waste of time. I'll take responsibility for the losses.""Kelsey, our studio is a family. We face difficulties together. There's no way we'd let you handle this alone."Craig glanced toward the engagement site. "But are we leaving now? Is the engagement ceremony really not happening?""Whether it continues or not, it has nothing to do with us anymore. Craig, there's something I've been hiding from you—I have a personal conflict with Angela. She intentionally hired me to design this ceremony for a specific reason."Craig thought, "I knew it."Kelsey definitely had a connection to the Larsons. Otherwise, how could she safely walk away after having a conflict with Angela?Craig's sm
Third Person's POVKelsey was stunned. Didn't he know this was his engagement party? How could he say that in front of Angela? Wasn't he worried Angela would cry?Sure enough, the next second, Angela cried out, "Marcus!"Sidney yelled, "Then what about Angela? What happens to her?"Kelsey heard Sidney and had the exact same question.Wasn't today Marcus's engagement day?Was his mind unclear when he told Mia "She is my Luna"?Couldn't he see Angela's tearful, pure act?Angela was wearing a wedding dress today, looking as innocent as an angel. Didn't Marcus notice? While Kelsey was rambling through confused thoughts, Marcus walked toward her.She had been looking up at him so long her neck was starting to hurt.Only then did she realize: this man was really tall.Marcus stood in front of her, his narrow eyes fixed on her.Kelsey felt uneasy, uncomfortable under his intense stare.
Third Person's POVCraig stood outside, annoyed that he hadn't managed to greet Kelsey earlier. His coworker whispered, "Boss, Kelsey was so brave! Wasn't she scared?"Craig had been too startled to step in.But then he remembered Kelsey's brother was related to the wealthy Larsons. Maybe this was just an internal feud among the elite, and he shouldn't worry about it.However, it also proved that Kelsey's background was more complex than he thought.Otherwise, how would she dare to stand up to Angela and Mia like that?Inside the engagement venue, only a few people remained.Kelsey had meant to take some photos with her phone, but remembering it was broken, she gave up.Mia scrambled up from the ground, staring at Kelsey. "Angela, have the bodyguards grab her! I'm going to teach her a lesson today!"Angela put on an innocent act. "Kelsey, you were clearly the one who started it. You should apologize, or this won't
Third Person's POVAngela stepped forward. "Digby, what is so urgent?""Company business."Digby offered an excuse, not telling her the truth. After the three men left, Angela stood alone. Her eyes instantly turned cold, her heart filled with resentment. It was her engagement day, and her own family was abandoning her halfway through?Angela recalled the adoption dissolution agreement Digby had given her, and her heart with filled with anger. She had spent so many years in Silver Moon that she already considered herself the Alpha's sister. How could she willingly be cast out?No matter what it took, she would not leave the Larsons.Just then, Mia walked over. "Angela, why did all your brothers leave?"Angela immediately put on a different face. "Something urgent came up at the company, so they had to leave. They're all very busy, just like Marcus. He only had to leave because of work."Mia felt somet
