Chapter 6: Last Bait

Kimberly POV

You know that feelings you get when you know obviously know how difficult the situation is yet you assured and encouraged yourself to move on - never to give up, that was exactly what I did.

Fortunately we got closer to an isolated smooth tile road and we exhaled heavily in exhaustion and relief.

We look sideways praying fervently for any vehicle to pass, that person will definitely save our life.

I looked at little Drake and the rest that has already transformed to their human skin, I shook my head sadly. At that moment, we started hearing loud honking sound approaching us in full speed.

Our lips spread in wide smile to the fact that hope came and we are saved. But unfortunately the car was in a very high speed that it didn't hear our wailing and shouting.

"I don't think this will do." Galaxy begins.

"How about we continue running further to seek for help? We can't keep standing here." he said in a worried tone with his eyes looking around us.

"What do you think?" I asked the others and they nodded in adjournment.

Any solution that will help us at this point in time, we will surely give it a go.

In minutes we started strolling on the grassy path, no one broke the silence as we were cold and detached. Our clothes were worn out and some of us had no footwear. I saw Lucille warming her arms by blowing air on her palm and caressing her skin, I smirked sadly.

Soon, Drake nudges me and I turned to him.

"What is it?" I said with a low voice.

He is too young to witness such crisis and my heart break for him that he was not oppurtunied to live a carefree life. Rather he was here with the adults, suffering for a way out.

"You are truly escaping with us?" he questioned in a polite tone, scratching his forehead. I smiled.

"Of course. You all are the only family I have left." I informed him sadly with my curled lips on my pale face.

"What about that demon Alpha? Won't he seek for you since you are his wife?" he asked looking curious with that clueless expression, guessing he had no idea of the whole situation.

"I don't think so." I shook my head in disagreement.

"My beast does not love him and I have no business with him." I added as a small smile crept out from my lips.

He nodded wearing a bright smile. For the first time, I saw him smiling so happily like one who has no problem. He grabbed my hand swinging it slowly.

"What do you think of our Uncle Galaxy?" his question came out unexpectedly and I was shocked.

"Galaxy?" I lift my gaze at Galaxy who's before us, walking with the others.

I saw him turn slightly then I noticed he must have heard our decision. I smiled deciding not to push forward this discussion.

As brave as he is, Drake also changed the subject.

"Sister Kim, do you know I have no parents or relatives?" he raised his little eyebrows looking weary.

I tightened my grip on his hand a bit and turned to him.

"What are you trying to say, honey?" I asked with a calming voice making him to feel comfortable and bold with me.

"I admire you because you are so kind and didn't reject us, as clan even when you have no idea about all these." He begins speaking courageously, his eyes didn't break away from mine.

By this time, we were proceeding closer to a junction that seem to lead into another city. The whole area was isolated, creepy and cranky.

"I will take that as a compliment from my little sweet Drake." I quickly caressed his soft curly hair and he smiled.

"Can you be my mother? I want you to be my mother, please." he pouted his lips staring at me with sadness pervading in his eyes.

How can I ever reject the request of this sweet child. I was touched.

I also felt empty and wish to have a parent but none on my grip. I could truly feel how desperate he was to be loved and cared for. Besides, he was so handsome.

"Are you sure about this, Drake?" I was gradually trying to try this motherhood out, it only needs a bold step from me.

I can keep him safe, after we cross this boundary in front. We will be safe in the city and I will take care of him as much as I can. I will treat him with good meals and purchase great outfits for him. I will love him with all my heart and take good care of his needs. I smiled brightly at my thoughts.

"Yes." he said interrupting my train of thoughts and I nodded patting his shoulder.

"Then it's settled. From now on, you can call me your mummy and you are now my son." I wiped some dirt off his face and he nodded looking so happy.

This kind of happiness, I have never seen it in him before. Before us, I heard Galaxy smirked.

"I think I see a bus approaching us!" Dave informed us with excitement filled in his voice, we all turned backward.

And truly a bus was approaching us - luckily it wasn't on high speed. Galaxy beacon on it to stop.

The bus stopped and we saw few passenger inside and base on their dressing, they look like they are also on the run.

The bus had just two seats remaining, we took a look at ourselves.

"Dave, Lucille and little Drake should go first. I and Galaxy will find our way out." I instructed.

Dave and Lucille didn't hesitate to rush into the vehicle but Drake refused. He gripped my dress frowning.

"I won't go without my mummy, I will follow you wherever you go." He grumbled and stumbled on the ground.

I remained indecisive watching at his adamant display.

"I don't have all day, please hop in." the drivers gruff voice comes up after a short honk.

"Darling, I promise to find you once I arrive in the city. Uncle Galaxy will keep me safe." I tried to convince him letting out an assuring smile yet it didn't work.

I sighed turning to Galaxy who also look speechless.

"We have no time Kim. Meet us at the Crescent hall in the city." seeing that Drake's mind was made up and we can't afford to loose this rare chance, Galaxy hopped into the bus and soon, the bus curbed into the road riding slowly.

They waved endlessly at us until they were out of sight, Drake embraced me by the waist with his face buried on my abdomen as we walk slowly on the road.

That moment when we got a glimpse of hope, everything faded at the sound of a scornful laugh adjacent to us.

Skeptically with fear written all over my face, I turned only to see Ashman standing before us with his trusted bodyguard - Beta Amos.

"This..." my lips trembled in confusion.

This wasn't how I planned it, if only we joined the bus by squeezing ourselves. And little Drake?

Before I could wake up from my trance, little Drake was in front of me with his arms spread out. He blocked me away from them.

"Don't touch my mummy, my mummy did nothing to you!" he defended me courageously with little or no fear and my heart break to see how weak of a mother I was.

Gradually, tear started gathering around my eyelids. Ashman laughed.

"Mummy?" he didn't even ask for an explanation or give it a second thought, he signaled Amos and like a flash of thunder strike. Everything happened so fast.

So fast that I saw little Drake on the ground bleeding non-stop.

"No!" I screamed out in anguish.
