"...Rita was your friend before anything else that came after and I think that it would be nice if you guys could get back to that but move at your own pace. There's no rush"

I thought back to the things that Hayley had said to me the night before when we walked together. I had not really expected her to push for a reconciliation after what I had told her.

I couldn't think of many girls that would have done that but I guess that Hayley was just a different kind of woman. Even as I walked to the front door of Rita's dorm, I thought of Hayley and the kiss.

She had kissed me.

I had always wanted to share a kiss with Hayley but was always held back because I was scared that I was unconsciously looking for someone to distract me from the way that I was feeling about Rita and I suppose that at first, I was.

Things were different now. Along the line and between the times that I spent with her, I had begun to see Hayley as less of a distraction and more of a welcome change of perspective.

  • Teach me to sin   Fifty Nine: Nico's POV [Chaos and Perfection]

    Chapter 58: Nico's POVThe vibe Alex’s room was thick with a quiet kind of tension, a stark contrast to the usual chaos of our space. What used to be a place where we could all joke, laugh and banter had turned into something with less joy.I, Rita, and Hayley – were perched awkwardly on Alex’s bed, trying our best to lift his spirits. He was curled up on his desk chair, knees tucked to his chest, staring out the window like it held all the answers to why he had been so unlucky with love and relationships.I couldn't even begin to imagine whata he must be going through. First, he had to deal with Julius and how he had just casually tossed him to the side and dated some chick and just when he thought he had found love this happened.I wasn't there when the breakup took place but I didn't have to be a magician to know that it hadn't gone too good and what breakup ever does?I expected Alex to be utterly devastated, bawling his eyes out, maybe even throwing things. He had done all thos

  • Teach me to sin   Fifty Eight: Rita's POV [Sometimes, I can't stand you]

    The soft hum of expensive hair dryers filled the air of the large bedroom also followed by the scent of high-end perfume and the hushed chatter of stylists. Toby had hired a personal team of glam squad employees, all meticulously dressed and remarkably efficient to prepare me for the big event tonight.They all moved around me like a well-oiled machine. This was a routine for me. If Toby had an event that he wanted me in attendance he always made sure that I was well prepped by professionals.Tonight was no different – a major fundraiser was being held tonight and Toby and I had received an invite. Well, mostly Toby, I was just the pretty lady on his arm.I had no idea what institution was holding the event but I did know that it was for some obscure foundation and this event mostly served as a networking opportunity for the city's elite.I was draped in a green, silk robe, sipping on sparkling water, trying to relax into the pampering. The makeup artist was meticulously blending a s

  • Teach me to sin   Fifty Seven: Alex's Pov [I'm Done]

    CHAP.57 Alex's POVThe morning light filtering through my dorm window it felt so odd that the day had started off so beautifully almost as if the events of last night had been nothing but a horrid dream. But it wasn't a horrid dream. My eyes were swollen, my throat raw from silent sobs, and a dull ache settled deep in my chest. That was enough to remind me that last night had really happened and the promise to end things with my boyfriend had really been made.Breaking up with Collin, a decision made with such chilling clarity in the car, now felt like a heavy, crushing weight. Despite everything, the need to get out what could be a potentially dangerous situation and all that; The thought of ending it hurt. A lot.But I knew I had to. There was no going back from last night. No excusing the punch, the accusations, the public humiliation. There was no excusing the broken promises and the worrisome pattern of violence that was starting to emerge.Collin had left me multiple unreturn

  • Teach me to sin   Fifty Six: Alex's POV [WHY?]

    The ride back to Heldon was quiet, the only sounds the soft hum of Nico’s engine and the distant thud in my head. I had been holding back tears for the past thirty minutes and my chest was starting to hurt. Nico was behind the wheel, his knuckles white where they gripped the steering wheel, his jaw clenched tight. We had been able to stop a fight between him and Collin but I knew that he wanted to still punch his face.Hayley had her hand resting gently on his arm, occasionally rubbing soothing circles. She didn’t say anything, but the gesture was enough. I wonder what she thought. She had met Collin for the first time tonight and this was his first impression.In the backseat, I was shaking slightly while Rita had me wrapped in a protective hold, her arm slung around my shoulders, pulling me close. She had always been my anchor during the storms of my life. No one spoke. No one needed to. The shock of what had just happened still hung heavy in the air, thick and suffocating. I don

    The air was aglow with a different kind of energy than any other party that I had been to. A mix of booming music, chlorine, and barbecue filled my nostrils as we pulled up to Collin’s place.Nico had driven me, Hayley and Rita to the place and it was, to my pleasant surprise, not an awkaward ride at all. If anything, Rita seemed like she was actively trying her best to be nice and welcoming. The house wasn't a sprawling mansion like some of the ones I’d seen in movies or like the one that Collins' family lived in but it was definitely upscale— it was a modern, sleek house with a shimmering pool in the backyard. The sounds of laughter, screams that were fun filled and splashing drifted over the manicured hedges. Everybody sounded like they were having the time of their lives."Alright, party people!" Nico exclaimed, practically bouncing out of the car as soon as we arrived, "Let's get going!"He brought the car to a stop and helped Hayley out of the car like the gentleman that he wa

  • Teach me to sin   Fifty Four: Hayley's POV {It's a date}

    ''Let's go out on a date, just you and me this weekend. What do you think?" Nico had asked me earlier this week when we were having ice cream in his dorm.Alex had been out working on his paper with one of his professors and Nico and I had the whole place to ourselves. The dorms of Heldon were designed like every typical two bedroom house.No wonder it was a school for the rich. Nico however acted regular and down to earth that I tend to forget that he was wealthy and that was one of the reasons that I liked him so much."A date?" I asked and he nodded."You pick a place and we'll go"I playfully leaned forward and wiggled my eyebrows at him."Ooouuu, look who's falling for me. I can't say that I blame you though. It is my burden to bear"He slapped my arm and laughed."Girl, hush""You can't even deny it""Yeah, yeah, whatever," He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head, "I like hanging out with you, Hayley and I want to keep hanging out with you""You mean that?"He nodded. ''Yea
