It is five thirty a.m. The call of Muslim prayers from every corner of the street inaudibly creeps into her hearing, She stretches her limbs and her whole body for a while, finally opens her eyes to adjust to the darkness of the room. She gets up from her laying position and sits down on her bed; that "there's no difference between the foam and mat."
She ambles out of her room and checks their compound to see her mother, knowingly the father would already be in the masjid. She couldn't see any sign of her mother which is unusual but decides to pray, maybe she's not up yet. With that thought she performs ablution and goes back to her room to pray.
Holistically, performed her salat (prayer), supplicated her daily azkar, after a long seat on the Tabarma (mat), she immediately stands up and heads out for her morning chores, since she would be going out a bit early for her morning lectures.
Until now She didn't see her mother on sight which is unlike her. She walks to their room and said Salam but gets no reply after waiting for some minutes she walks in. But to her ultmost surprise she sees her mother laying down."Umma. What happened"? She said, a bit panicked sitting close to her. She touches her forehead with her hand to check her temperature but impulsively takes her hand. "Umma you're burning. What happened? talk to me" she said almost at the verge of tears. She detest seeing her Umma being sick or worried.
"Don't worry diyata. It's just a fever" her umma said in a hoarse voice.
"Don't say that. You're burning and you're telling me it's just a fever, Haba Umma. Wait let me get a water and a towel" without waiting for her Umma's reply she hurriedly walks out of the room.
She returned shortly after with the water and towel. She dips the towel inside the water, squeezes it and places it on her forehead. She repeats such for some minutes before her temperature calms down a little bit and she slept off.The father enters the compound while she's sweeping "Inna kwana Baba"she said to her father feebly.
"Lafiya diyata. Har kin Fara aiki?"
"Ehn"
"Toh madala. Hurry up and finish so that you won't be late for your lectures"
"Humm, dama Baba I will not be going to school today"
"And why?, if I may ask"
"Umma is sick and I want to look after her when you're not around"
"And with whose permission are you staying at home?" He asks with a bit rash voice which she keeps mute.
"Answer mu" he asks again in same tone
"Dama"
"Dama what?. Toh let me tell you sound and clear. You see that school, you must go. And about your mother I will not be going anywhere. So better hurry up and finish your work and leave. I don't want you to be late for school" with that he entered their room where his wife is laying down sleeping peacefully.
Homely, tehezzb is done with everything that needed to be done in the house, she even prepared the breakfast and took to her parent's room. "Baba nagama"
"Yauwa. Yin hakuri diyata. I'm sorry for raising my voice at you earlier. But you know I don't mean to. I don't want you to miss this golden opportunity, it's for you to learn"
"It's okay Baba. I understand let me get going. My regards to umma when she wakes up"
"I will. Take this with you" he said, bringing out money from his pocket to give her "Baba leave it. Add it up to Umma medication money. I still have some change with me"
"Are you sure?" he asked
"Yes. I am" comes her reply
"Allah maki Albarka diyata. Start going I don't want you to be late" she left the room quietly and headed for school.
Tehzeeb couldn't get Keke on time till after some minutes before she could get one, which she knows without a doubt that she will be late. She arrived at the school and hurriedly walk to the lecture's venue, unfortunately for her the lecturer was already around. Reluctantly, She tries to go in maybe she would be allowed to enter to take the lecture. Upon taking a step to enter Madam Maryam cautions " Don't you dare me young lady. Get out of my class" with that being said she continues with her lecture
Mrs Maude have rules and regulations, among her rules no one enters her class after she had entered. Tehzeeb couldn't sit because there was a probability that Mrs Maude would be giving them a test which she doesn't want to miss but has no other option. She stands close to the window to gain some knowledge even though she'll not be allowed to sit in the class.
Mrs Maude left the class without giving a test just her normal attendance which Tezheeb was a bit relief since this her first time of missing her class "Tezheeb" someone calls from her behind which she turns and comes face to face with her friend.
"Ke lafiya?" Her friend asked in concern
"Inna fa lafiya kawa"
"What happened? You look dull and came late for the lecture when you know it's Madam Maryam lecture we're having this morning".
"Madam Maude aside for now since there is no test just attendance" She said before telling her the reason why she was late. "Umma was a bit sick this morning that's why I was late"
"Eyyah. Allah Kara mata sauki. Don't worry dear. I know how worried you get when umma is sick. But I promise she will be fine"
"Nagode"
"Let's go for our next lecture since it's just two lectures we're having today after that you can leave" with that they both walk out to their next lecture without saying a word.
Tehzeeb is physically in the class but all her attentions and thoughts are at home. She is eager to go home to see what's happening to her Umma. She is so lost in her own thought thinking of what happening at home. She was lost in her thoughts and was no following the lectures until Khadija touched her. She turns and faces her before she raises her eyebrows in question. "You're not listening babe. Atleast concentrate a little bit"
"I'm sorry. Just worried about Umma that's all"
"I know and she will be fine. Now listen and listen attentively"
"Thank you" with that she faces the lecturer to listen to what the lecturer is teaching. Immediately the lecturer left she Sprints out of the class like someone that's being chased without even waiting for Khadija to say goodbye.

Dedicated To My Beloved Editor....MaryamShe was in a haste to get home that she wasn't looking her way when she bumped into someone."I'm sorry" she said, and continued walking without waiting or looking at him a second time. She quickly hailed a cab coming towards her and entered to go home. She arrived home and was about to dash inside the how when the cab make yelled, "Mallama baki biyani ba fa (Madam you are yet to pay me)". She stopped in her tracks and hit her forehead with and hand before turning to him. "Sorry, mantuwa na yi (sorry, I forgot)", she paid and dashed inside the compound. "Umma! Umma!!", she began to shout even before reaching the room. "Ke yarinya na yashe Zaki girma? (hey my girl, when will you grow up?)" Baba asked, "daga dawowar ki da Kiran sunnan Umma ki ko (from coming back you are already calling your mum's name)". Her Baba said laughing at her behavior. She pouted, "haba Baba, you know she was sick before I left for school this morni
"Ni kika Mara" the guy said angryly"Na mara banza" Tehzeeb reply him anger evident in her voice."You don't know who you're messing with" the guy reply in the same tune Tehzeeb used to talk to him. He have never been humiliated in his life before nor have been slapped before by someone and now a lady have lay her filthy hand on his face that from a low class"And who the hell are you? I don't care who the bloody hell you're. All I care is that no one. I repeat no one dare insult or look down at my parents. That's again from a guy that doesn't have proper home training. You lack manners" Tehzeeb shouted and continue talking "it's better you go back home from where you're coming from and learn some respect" with that being said she turn to her parents "Umma let's be going. You need to rest, that's why I was insisting you stay at home to rest. But nevertheless that's your fate and we have nothing to do with Allah have destin
Immediately they arrived home, Tehzeeb had tears streaming down her face. She was in pain about what happened. She was an emotional mess especially when it comes to her parents. She loathed seeing them in pain or being looked down on just because they were not wealthy. The wealth which she knows Allah can take away from whosoever he wishes but because of that worldly things some people looked down on her parents.Whenever she remembered the look the guy gave her parents she cried even more and clutched onto her chest tightly"Haba Tehzeeb. Why are you crying? You slapped him which I suppose you should be better but here you are crying, why?" Mallam Audu her father asked"Am sorry Baba I just" she hiccuped "I just don't like it when someone disrespects you. I can't do that to anyone's parent but look at what what said to you. Someone like that who is a nobody said what he felt like without any ounce of respect just because
Tehzeeb has been busy with her studies because her tests were approaching. Which most of the lecturers would not announce the day they would be writing test, they would just come to the class and asked them to tear a sheet of paper for test. She doesn't want to be left behind or come to class unprepared so she has seriously been reading her books even when she's at home."Umma" she called her mother"Na'am Tehzeeb" her mother answer"Let me get going. I don't want to be late and it's sunny""Okay toh. All the best dear""Thank you""Wait" her Umma called out to her before she left "your father said I should give you transport fare. Here take it and quickly leave before you get late""Umma keep it. I still have some change in my hand" she said returning the money to her Umma"Take the money and leave or you tell me the reason you don't like collecting money from us anymore. Always saying you have change. Tehzeeb hope
She did as she was told before going out to join her parents to eat"My daughter. How was the lecturers" asked Baba Mallam Audu"It was fine. Alhamdulillah" replied Tehzeeb"That's good. May the Lord see you through""Ameen Baba" with that they ate there food in silence. Tehzeeb pack the dishes to the kitchen before she performs wudu and enters her room. She was not in the mood to go out to gist with her parents today, because if she does then they will know that something was bothering her which she don't want them to know."Tehzeeb dear. Aren't you coming out?" Umma asked from outside her room"No Umma. I want to go through my books first""Oh dear. You need to rest. It's not been long you came back from school and you want to read again. Let's your brain rest for a while""Hummm" she sighed before she replies "Okay Umma
Depression is a disease that has no cure. May Allah protect us from it__________________________________Tehzeeb woke up with headache because she couldn't sleep throughout the night. After praying she didn't have the strength to check on her parents so she laid down to rest for a while maybe the headache might reduceUmma finished her morning azkar and she had not seen Tehzeeb so she got worried and decided to check on her because it was unlike her. She walked to Tehzeeb's room and saw her laying down"Inallilahi Tehzeeb, what happened to you? Why are you like this?" Umma asked her in one breath"Umma don't stress yourself so much. It's just a headache that's all" She said to her mother in a low voice"Don't say that, look at the way you're laying down and you're telling me it's just a headache. Wait, what did you do through out last night?" Umma questio
In life no matter what you do people will suspect or point finger at you. So it's better to stay in a clear cost. We own our life not others_______________________________The tension in the room was too much and becoming unbearable for Tehzeeb but she dare not walk out on her parents since she was not brought up like that. She hang her head low expecting the inevitable because she knows her father will give her his piece of mind. There silence was disturbing her but she couldn't talk since she have spill the beans. She was about to say something when she heard her father cleared his throat. Which she sighed in relief because that alone lessened the tension in the room"Tehzeeb" Mallam Audu called her name. She shivered with the way he called her name. The tune in which he used to call her name was rarely used by him unless it's something
The best relationship is that which is built on trust, understanding and respect. If a relationship lack this, then there will be alot of circumstances which the two will face and that will give room tothere foes to intervene in there life's. Build relationship on trust, understanding and respect. Not on material things---------------------------------------------Tehzeeb woke up today happily and energetic. She just don't know why she feels happy and at ease after her discussion with her parents and the out come of it. She's super happy and can't wait to see Khady to tell her about the good news, but there's no lecture today so she decided that she will visit Khady since it's been long she visited her and atleast she will get to know about the work maybe there's a vacancy for her to fit in.
