Chapter 40

Fenris didn't utter a word. He just looked up like he was seeking an answer from above. I also stared at the high ceiling and it just made me dizzy. I blinked multiple times before I turned my gaze back at him.

"Fenris." I gulped as I massaged his shoulder. "Everything okay?" I asked again.

He met my eyes and worries glittered on his eyeballs. "No. Everything is not okay." He gasped as he put his palms on his face. "Fuck! I have no idea what's going on."

My lips thinned. I held his arms and slowly removed his palms from his face. I met his glittering eyes and all I could see was sadness. I massaged his cheek, wiping it like there were tears on it. I knew he wanted to cry but he was stopping himself. I could feel his heart aching through his eyes.

"Fenris, I don't know what Gonzalo told you, but I want you to know that I'm here, okay? I'm willing to listen for whatever your problems are." I stared deeply into his eyes like I was digging through his soul and calming it.

He held my cheek
