“You really are naive, aren’t you?” Those words make Anna flinch, and another bad memory resurfaces. “Love you? You are so naive,” Anna shakes her head, trying to chase away the memory. “It was never about hating you. It was about wanting you so fucking much it drove me crazy,” Zack continued. Anna tried to focus on his words and not the bad memory looming over her but hearing his words and understanding them were two different things... Zack’s fingers traced the edge of her black bra under her grey jersey, teasing the sensitive skin just above it. “Every time i saw you with another guy, every time someone looked at you like they wanted you... It made me insane with jealousy.” Anna looked at him in disbelief, because she never noticed. Zack pulled her grey jersey up and over her head, tossing it aside. Anna shivered when the cold air made contact with her damp skin. Zack’s green eyes darkened as he looked at her breasts encased in a wet black bra. “So yes, it is about sex,” he admitted, his voice thick with desire. “But it is also about claiming what is mine. Making sure everyone knows that you belong to me and only me.”

“So, you never hated me? Then why did you say all those mean things,” Anna says, trying to hold back her tears. Whether they were tears of sadness or tears of relief that he did not hate her, she could not tell. She covered her chest with her arms, suddenly feeling very vulnerable. Things seemed simpler outside when she was lost in the heat of the moment. But now that she could sit and think about what she had been feeling, how much his actions and words in the past hurt her... How much she wished that this was real and how scared she was that it was another trick. All these thoughts and feelings started floating to the surface. Zack’s expression softened slightly at the sight of Anna’s tears, but he quickly masked it with his usual bravado. He gently pulled her arms away from her chest, his hands resting on her shoulders. “Mean things?” he scoffed. “Those were just words, brat. I did not know how else to get your attention.” He leaned down, his lips brushing against hers. “You think I wanted to be the bad guy? The asshole who bullied you? But it was better than being ignored completely.”

His hands moved from her shoulder to her breast, cupping it through the wet fabric of her black bra. “Every insult, every push... It was just me trying to keep you close. To make sure no other guy thought he had a chance with you,” he squeezed gently, his thumb tracing circles over her nipple. “And now that I finally have you alone, I am going to show you just how much I do not hate you.” Anna calmly listened to his words. For a moment she tried to understand his perspective and his behavior, but could not because all she could think was, ‘What if? What if he had been nice to her? She would not have ignored him. And he did not keep the other guys off her. Maybe... If he had been nice, maybe what happened during summer break would not have happened. Maybe she would have been with Zack instead...’ The possibilities made her feel a regretful anger that brought tears to her brown eyes.

“You could have been nice to me,” she muttered angrily. “How am I supposed to believe that this right here is not just you, taking what you want. Say sweet nothings to... To have sex with me,” Zack’s green eyes flashed with a mix of frustration and desire. He captured her lips in a rough kiss, silencing any further protests. His hands moved to her back, finding the clasp of her black bra and unhooking it with practiced ease. “Nice?” Zack growled against her mouth. “Being nice would have meant letting you go, letting someone else have you. And that was never an option.” Anna looked at him with a frown, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ He pulled the black bra away, tossing it aside to join her grey jersey on the floor. His hands immediately covered her bare breasts, squeezing them roughly. “This is me being honest,” he said, his voice thick with lust. “I am not nice. I am possessive and selfish.” He pushed her back onto the bed and loomed over her. His hands moved to the waistband of her red skirt, tugging them down along with her wet underwear in one swift motion.

Anna gasped, partly due to the cold air now brushing against her bare legs and intimate folds, and partly because she was now naked in front of Zack — something she never thought would happen in a million years. She looked up at him above her and swallowed hard. “If you were nice to me...” Anna says hesitantly, considering the implications of finishing that sentence. Zack paused, his hands on her hips as he looked down at her naked body. A muscle twitched in his jaw, and for a moment, a flicker of something almost like regret crossed his face. “If I was nice to you,” he said, his voice softer than before, “You would have seen right through me. You would have known that I was just pretending.” ‘Pretending,’ the words echoed in her mind. What does that mean? Is he saying she would have known he was lying to get something from her or that she would know he was not the type of guy to give false niceties? Anna felt so confused, by his sudden behavior and proximity... by his confusing words... By her own feelings...

Zack leaned down, pressing a surprisingly gentle kiss to his lips. “Nice guys finish last, Anna, and I could not risk losing you to some other guy who knew how to say all the right things.” Anna held her breath, how could she tell him that something similar to that had already happened, that anime loving Mark, was the least of his problems...

“Hey, Anna,” Zack says softly, waiting for her to look up before continuing. “Thanks. For earlier. And for breakfast.” It is a rare moment of vulnerability for him, stripped of all the usual posturing and bravado. He does not linger on it, though– he opens the motel room door and steps out into the hallway, his voice returning to its casual confident tone. The sunlight hits him hard, making him squint for a second. “Earlier?” she asks as she rushes to join him. “What part?” Zack stops in the hallway, turning to face her with a half-smile that is more amused than anything else. He can see genuine confusion in her brown eyes, and it makes him want to laugh. “Everything,” he says simply, his voice dropping low. “The way you looked at me. The way you said my name. All of it.”Zack reaches out, his hand finding the small of Anna’s back and pulling her just a little closer as they head toward the stairs. “Don’t act like you do not know exactly what I am talking about, Anna,” he teases, his g

“If you are so worried about making a mess, maybe you should sit on the floor like a kid,” Anna joked before taking a bite of pancake herself. Zack nearly chokes on the pancake in his mouth, a startled laugh breaking through his throat. He points his fork at her, his dark green eyes sparkling with mick indignation. “Sit on the floor? Like a kid?” he repeats, shaking his head. “You are lucky you are cute, Anna, because that is low even for you.” He takes another bite, chewing slowly as he watches her eat. The morning light is getting stronger now, filling the room with a warm, golden glow that makes everything feel softer, more real. The tension from his dream has completely dissipated, replaced by this easy, domestic rhythm.“And for the record,” Zack adds, his voice dropping into that lazy, confident drawl again. “I do not act like a kid. I am a grown man. I deserve a seat.” He nudges Anna’s shoulder with his own, a gentle, affectionate gesture that says more than his words ever could

“What did you get us?” Zack asked hoping to distract her. “Pancakes. They did not have blueberry pancakes,” Anna said as she moved to place the white paper bag on the bedside table and then turning to him, cupping his cheek. He leans into her touch instinctively, his eyes closing as his palm rests against his cheek. The warmth of her hand is grounding, pulling him further away from the coldness of his dream and back into the reality of this room, this morning. “Blueberry or not, I am not complaining,” he murmurs, his voice low and sleepy. He reaches up, covering her hand with his own, pressing her palm more firmly against his face. He does not care about the pancakes right now. He just wants to stay in this moment, where the only thing that matters is the weight of her hand and the way she looks at him like he is something worth keeping.“You are too good to me, Anna,” Zack said, opening his green eyes to look at her. There is no sarcasm in it, no bravado. Just a quiet, honest admissio

  • Tenderness is a Dangerous Thing   Chapter 158: Hollow Dream

A dream settles over Zack, quiet and suffocating, like frost creeping across the glass. He is small again and the world is too big, the house too hollow. Even the air feels wrong, as if something essential is missing. The warmth that once lived in the walls is gone, replaced by a thin, biting cold that seeps into his skin and stays there. He wakes in the darkness. For a moment, there is nothing– just the faint hum of the house, the distant creak of settling wood. Then he hears it. A noise downstairs. Soft. Irregular. Real. Hope ignites in him so fast it almost hurts. He is out of his car shaped bed before the thought can catch up to him, bare feet hitting the hardwood with small, quick slaps. He does not feel the cold floor. He does not feel anything except that fragile, desperate certainty blooming in his chest. It is her. It has to be. Mom? The word rises, but it never makes it out. it sticks somewhere deep, like even now he knows better than to say it out loud– because saying it mig

  • Tenderness is a Dangerous Thing   Chapter 157: Let it Snow

In the background the movie comes to an end and the song ‘Let it show! Let it snow! Let it snow!’ starts playing:Oh, the weather outside is frightful. But the fire, it’s so delightful. And since we’ve no place to go. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!“God,” Zack breathes out, the word barely a whisper. His voice is completely drained, stripped of all its usual edge. He does not pull away. Instead, he shifts slightly, rolling onto his side and pulling Anna with him so she is tucked against his chest. “That was…” she began and took a sharp breath. His chest is still rising and falling in heavy, uneven beats. He does not move, just lies there with his arm draped heavily over her waist, his fingers tracing idle, lazy patterns against her skin. The intensity of those last few minutes has left him physically drained, but his mind is still buzzing, still reeling from the sheer closeness of it. He turns his head slightly, his chin brushing against the top of her hair.Man, it doesn’t sho

Anna moaned as Zack rubbed against her from behind. The sound of her moan– soft, breathless, and entirely unguarded– hits him like a physical weight. His jaw tightens, his teeth grinding together as he fights the urge to lose that promised control. “You sound so good,” he rasps, his voice barely a whisper against her skin. “Do that again.” He does not rush. He keeps his movements slow and deliberate, just like he promised, but the rhythm is heavy, intentional. His hands stay anchored on her hips, guiding her, keeping her steady as he maintains that agonizingly slow friction. His other hand reaches around, fingers splaying across her stomach, pulling her back against him so there is no space left between them. He can feel every vibration of her moan through his own chest.“I have got you, just breathe. I am right here.” Zack murmurs, his lips grazing her shoulder blade. “Ah, God. Zack,” Anna moaned sweetly. “I want you inside me.” The way she says his name– not like a challenge, not lik
