Candice’s POV

I looked at Jace, waiting for him to say something. Anything.

I thought he’d at least ask me a question but he didn’t.

He just stared at me, his eyes locked on mine.

The air between us felt so heavy that I had to force a smile just to break the tension. But it didn’t help.

I cleared my throat softly, deciding to speak first. “Jace,” I began carefully, “I… I’ll be taking the kids back to the country. Probably next week.”

The kids, who had been busy munching on fries, suddenly stopped and looked up at me with wide, curious eyes. Their little heads tilted to the side at the same time.

“Mom,” Caleb asked in his small voice, “are we going abroad to play?”

I smiled, reaching out to pat both their soft heads. “Something like that, baby,” I said gently. “We’re going to live in the place where Mommy grew up. Would you like that?”

Chloe nodded eagerly. “Yes! I want to see where Mommy grew up!”

Caleb grinned, then turned to Jace, who sat quietly beside him. He reached out, wrappi

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 150 — Why Does He Have To Be Here?

CANDICE’S POVI had imagined a thousand different ways Dorian and I might cross paths again—on a busy European street, at a business event, maybe even by accident in a coffee shop. But never, never in the way fate decided to do it.That night was supposed to be peaceful. The kids and I were curled up on the couch in our pajamas staring at the colorful pictures in the storybook I was reading.“And then the little bunny found his way back home—” I paused as my phone started ringing loudly on the table. The sound made Chloe flinch.“Mommy, your phone,” she said, pointing at it sleepily.I sighed. “Ignore it, sweetheart. Probably no one important.”Why do I have this feeling that I don’t even need to check the caller ID to know?Who else would call me at this hour?I took a deep breath and tried to focus back on the story. “Okay, where were we? Oh right—the bunny!”But the phone rang again. And again. And again.By the fifth time, my eye twitched.“Whoever this is must be out of their min

Candice’s POVI swear, I was beginning to revolve my entire life around Lucien. From the moment I woke up, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing—emails, messages, reminders, calls—all from him or about him.Every five minutes, someone was asking me to check something, confirm something, or send something to Mr. Lucien. My phone rang again. “Yes, this is Candice… yes, I’ll have it on his desk in five minutes.”Barely two minutes later, another call came through.“Miss Candice, Mr. Lucien said to prepare a meeting with the Board for 6 p.m.”I blinked at my screen. “Wait, what? He just finished one at two!”“Yes, he said this one is urgent.”“Of course, it is…” I sighed, rubbing my temple. “Alright, tell him I’ll get it arranged.”By the time I dropped the call, my inbox had already exploded with ten new emails. I didn’t even know when I’d last taken a sip of water. My entire job was beginning to feel like running an entire city… for one man.Even his personal affairs had become my duty.My pho

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 148 - Settling In

Candice’s POVI sat in the middle seat on the plane, with my two little ones on either side of me. The flight back home felt like it dragged on forever, but the kids were surprisingly good.My son stared out the window at the clouds, his small hand gripping mine tightly. My daughter clutched her stuffed bear and dozed off against my arm.“Mommy, are we almost there?” Caleb whispered after a while, his eyes wide with curiosity.“Yeah, sweetie, just a few more hours,” I whispered back, smoothing his hair. “We’re going to a new home, remember? Where Mommy grew up.”He nodded slowly, but I could see the worry in his face. “Will it be fun? Like London?”I forced a smile. “It’ll be different, but we’ll make it fun. Promise.”Chloe stirred a bit but didn’t wake up.My heart ached a little, thinking about leaving London behind—leaving Jace who had been like family. But this was for the best, right? When we finally landed, the airport was buzzing with people. I grabbed our bags, holding each c

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 147- Goodbyes Are Hard To Say

Jace’s POVI really thought I had all the time in the world.I figured I’d just hang back and wait until Candice finally noticed me, until we could all be together—me, her, and those amazing kids. But then, out of nowhere, she drops this bomb about leaving London, about ditching the whole country. It hit me like a truck. I wasn’t ready for that at all.Every single time I got the urge to spill my guts and tell her how I really felt, I’d talk myself down. “Jace, be patient,” I’d say to myself in the mirror. “Give her space. Let her take as long as she needs. As long as she’s still here in London, you’ve got your shot. You’ll confess everything eventually.”That’s what kept me going, you know? That little hope that she’d stick around. But when she said those words—“I’m leaving the country”—my heart just froze. It was like someone had punched me right in the chest. I could barely breathe. It scared the hell out of me, like the most precious thing in my life was slipping through my finger

Candice’s POVI knew it. No matter what I said next, these people weren’t going to compromise. It didn’t matter if I explained myself again, or if I begged them to understand. They had already made up their minds, and nothing I said would change it.If only I had known this was how today would turn out… I never would have brought the kids to the park. Chloe wouldn’t be standing behind me right now with scraped knees and tears streaming down her cheeks. My little girl sobbed softly, clutching my leg. My heart broke hearing those tiny cries. I wanted to protect her, but I felt like I was drowning under all these accusing eyes. And just when I was about to lose, a deep, steady voice came through like a savior.“Why do you have to make things difficult for a woman and her child?”That voice. I knew it. I spun around quickly. It was Jace.I let out a shaky breath in relief. His tall figure moved toward me. “Is this really how you treat other women?” Jace’s voice was sharp. “Surrounding
