Dorian POV

The moment I got into the car, I slammed the door shut harder than I meant to.

On the way to the hospital, my head was pounding. My body was still sore from all the running around.

I grabbed my phone and called Logan—one of my most trusted men.

“Logan,” I said, keeping my voice low. “I need surveillance footage from the main house. The night Candice was taken away.”

There was a pause. “Sir… that system is protected by high-level encryption. Your stepmother had top hackers install firewalls. I’ll need time.”

“How much time?” I asked sharply.

“I’ll try within 48 hours. Maybe sooner if I can get past the second layer.”

“Do whatever it takes,” I muttered. “I don’t care how much it costs.”

As I hung up, my fingers were shaking slightly. I didn’t like being played like a fool—and I hated feeling like I was ten steps behind.

When I finally arrived at the hospital. I stopped the car and jumped out of it.

But nothing could have prepared me for the scene I walked into.

The ward was

  • The Accidental Surrogate's Secret   Chapter 69- Why did He Get Me These?

Dorian POVI turned around quickly and saw a nurse standing right behind me, holding a clipboard. I hadn’t even heard her approach. She gave me a polite but curious smile.“Um…” I cleared my throat, forcing a small smile onto my face. “Yeah. I was just about to,” I said quickly, pretending I wasn’t standing outside the door spying. I didn’t want her to get suspicious, so I gave a little nod, gently pushed open the door to Alora’s ward, and stepped inside like everything was fine. The moment I entered, the atmosphere changed.Alora was already lying on the bed again, covered neatly with a soft hospital blanket, her eyes closed like she had been sleeping this whole time. Her head was tilted slightly to the side. She looked calm, peaceful, like a fragile patient resting after some long, painful procedure. But I knew what I had seen.Just moments ago, she was wide awake. Holding her phone. Scrolling through something like she had no care in the world. Her face had been full of life. And

Dorian – POVAlora’s father finally sighed and looked at me. “Fine,” he said, his tone still stiff. “If that’s what Alora wants, then do it properly. Make it grand. Make it something she can brag about.”My stepmother smiled tightly and added, “Yes. She deserves it after everything. Just don’t mess it up, Dorian. This needs to be the best day of her life.”I nodded, giving a small, polite smile. “I’ll make sure it’s everything you’ve dreamed of,” I said. Then I turned to them. “If you’ll excuse me for a moment,” I said softly. “I just need to step out. I have a few calls to make.”They didn’t question it. They were too busy talking about flower colors and which designer would do Alora’s dress.I walked out of the ward, calmly at first. The moment I stepped out of that suffocating room. I took a deep breath like I hadn’t breathed in days. I needed a second. Just a damn second to think.I kept walking. Quietly. Down the hall, past the nurses. Until I reached the fire exit. The heavy

Dorian POVFor a few minutes, we sat there, just breathing the same air. I closed my eyes and tried to memorize the feel of her so I’d never forget again.I pulled back slowly and looked into her eyes.“Candice…” I whispered, my voice hoarse. “I shouldn’t have agreed to their terms. I should have fought harder. I was… Confused. But that’s no excuse. I let you down.”She didn’t answer right away.“I know,” she finally said. “But… I also know you didn’t have much choice.”I swallowed hard and lowered my eyes.“I still feel like I betrayed you,” I muttered.“You did,” she said softly, but without anger. “But you came back. That’s what matters to me.”Her voice was calm, but I could feel the pain under it. I took her hand, held it tightly.“I promise,” I said slowly, “no one will come between us again. Not my stepmother. Not Alora. No one.”She hesitated. Then, she looked up at me with this confused little frown. “Why did you block me?”I blinked. “What?”“You blocked my number,” she said

Dorian POVI could barely recognize her.Candice looked like someone who hadn’t smiled in days. Her face was pale. Her eyes were sunken. There were dark circles under them, and her lips were dry and cracked. The nanny pulled me aside and whispered, “She barely eats. She barely sleeps. Some nights, she screams in her sleep like she’s seeing something horrible.”I just stood there, frozen. My heart ached. It ached so bad, I had to grip the wall beside me.“Why… why didn’t anyone tell me it got this bad?” I muttered under my breath, but I already knew the answer. It was my fault. All of it.I walked toward her bedroom door slowly, my legs feeling heavier with every step.I stood there for a second, unsure how to even begin. My hand rested on the wooden door. My forehead pressed against it.“Candice,” I whispered. My voice trembled, breaking. “It’s me.”No answer.“Please… please open the door. Just… let me see you. Talk to me. Yell at me. Just… say something. Anything.”Silence.I close

Candice – POVI froze. My heart stopped beating for a moment. I just stared at him, my hands slowly sliding off his chest. My mouth went dry, and I couldn’t feel my legs anymore. It was like something heavy just crushed me from the inside out.He said yes.He really agreed to marry Alora.I blinked hard. Once. Twice. Then I took a shaky step back.“Candice, please—” Dorian reached for me again.“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “Don’t touch me.”“Candice—”“I said don’t touch me!” I snapped, louder this time, slapping his hand away. My body was trembling, and I didn’t even realize it until I almost stumbled backward. He looked shocked.I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to keep what was left of me from falling apart. So this was it.All those nights I cried myself to sleep, hoping he’d come… All those moments I prayed he was looking for me. That he missed me. That I wasn’t crazy for believing he still cared. And now he stood right in front of me, telling me he was going to marry
