“Here,” Leah said, passing me a cup of tea. I gave her a weak smile, feigning drowsiness with heavy-lidded eyes.

“So, you said Kai took a stroll, yes?” she asked.

I nodded, burying my nose in the tea. “Sure, sure. He did.”

Leah was at the stove making soup with some homemade bread. I had offered to help earlier, but she wouldn’t let me. Part of me wanted to drop to my knees, grab the hem of her clothes, and beg for forgiveness right there. I knew she’d probably snap my neck the second she found out why.

Instead, I kept my mouth shut and sipped the tea.

“Did you guys hang out again today?”

I perked up too fast. “Uh, who?”

“Kai, of course. Who else?” Leah’s eyes brightened.

The pot lid rattled from the steam. She turned to adjust it, giving me a second to breathe.

“Not really,” I said, rolling my eyes to the side. “He was out most of the day.”

“Funny how you two seem to get along now,” she said with a small laugh. “Remember the first two months? Y’all were like Tom and Jerry. I genuinely thought the hatred would never die.”

I nodded, stomach twisting.

“So when did you two decide to accept your differences?” she asked, genuinely curious. “Accommodate each other, I mean.”

“Um… I really… I mean…” I shrugged, throat dry. My fingers tightened around the cup. Did she notice something?

The air felt thick.

Or maybe it was just the heat from the pots.

The front door creaked open. Kai walked in.

His hair was parted to the left, a few lazy strands shadowing his forehead. His sharp brows and dominant presence filled the room instantly. He looked like he owned every inch of space he stepped into.

“Something fancy smells in here, baby.”

He pulled Leah close and blew into the crook of her neck. I dropped my gaze just in time to catch him glancing at me.

Leah giggled and pushed him away. “Stop. I reek of sweat and annoying councilmen.”

“I told you not to go, you know.”

Kai took the seat opposite me. While Leah answered, his leg found mine under the table. A slow, deliberate press.

“You want me to ignore them like you did?” Leah said. “You do remember you’re the Alpha of SilverFang pack. You’ve got your pheromones and your wolf, but what am I supposed to defend myself with when they question me?”

“You’re supposed to be by my side,” Kai replied smoothly. “Ruling the throne next to me. Just act like it. Take control.”

“Hmph.” Leah scoffed.

Something about the way they spoke made the difference between them painfully clear. Leah was soft, submissive. She had never taken leadership roles back in college. I used to wonder why.

My mind snapped back when Kai’s toe flicked the hem of my pants at the ankle. I shot him a death glare and coughed.

The interruption gave Leah a moment to focus on the food again.

“Uh, where did you put the honey jar, Leah?”

“I already put enough in the tea.”

“I… I just want more,” I lied.

Truth was, I just needed to get away from Kai. Sweat was forming on my forehead. Heat was flooding between my legs again. Leah pointed at the cupboard on the wall. Dinner passed in a haze of tension.

Leah eventually leaned her head on Kai’s shoulder and sighed. “My shoulders hurt so badly. The position of Luna isn’t easy, honestly.”

Kai’s dark eyes had been locked on me for a while now. Hungry. Like the food wasn’t enough and I was the next thing on his menu.

I blurted out before I could stop myself, “Kai could help with that, you know.”

“True,” Leah said. “Kai, I need a massage. Maybe with a happy ending.”

For a split second, Kai stayed completely still.

Then he stirred. “What?”

A strange, sharp feeling twisted in my chest. He had been giving me all his attention, but now that Leah had it, it hurt more than I wanted to admit.

Leah led him out of the kitchen.

I stayed behind, washing dishes slowly, trying not to think about what was probably happening in their room. When I finally finished, I dragged myself to my bedroom and collapsed on the bed.

Sleep wouldn’t come.

All I could picture was Leah underneath Kai right now — moaning, taking his knot, while I lay here still sore and leaking from earlier.

A soft knock landed on my door.

I already knew who it was before I opened it.
