Maverick's POV
I picked enough accessories, and Kylie picked more for me. According to him, I have to fit the standards of his Alpha. The drive to the pack house was a very long one, and a nerve racking one for me. I could not stop having flashbacks of the kiss with Blue. It was better than everything I had expected it to be. I was quiet throughout the drive, and soon, the driver stopped and I got down. I was beyond awed to see the pack house. It was a literal castle, beautiful and majestic. This is the kind of house you get lost in, trying to find the kitchen. “Wow…” The words eventually escaped my mind, as some people came to carry my luggage from the vehicle. I could guess that they were the omegas of the pack. “Let's go in.” Kylie led the way, and I followed. I've seen luxury, but this was another level of luxury. We went in, and my eyes fell on Blue and a lady beside her. Just as soon as my eyes met hers, she was standing beside me. “You're too calm.” She said, smiling as she looked into my eyes. I'd have shit my pants if I could, and the method I was using to keep my heart rate normal was barely holding up. “Hello.” I said, keeping my hands to myself because she definitely sees me as a peasant. Blue does too. “Hi, my name is Ashley.” She giggled, stretching her hand out. “Oh.” I shook her hands and she sped back to Blue. “He does have style, and he's hot.” She was happier than Blue. “Luca is so going to suffer.” From there, I could easily guess who Luca is. “Take him to my room, I'll meet him there.” She said, and I followed Kylie. Everyone in the pack showed me a great level of respect that almost had me squirming because I've never been treated this good by a group of people. Blue's room was massive. Her bed was too. They placed my bags in there, and I took a silent walk around the room, seeing the paintings and artworks hung on the wall. I had my eyes on the painting of a flower when she walked in. “Hi Maverick.” She said with no expression on her face. “Since we're over all the shenanigans, I think I should set some ground rules.” “oh okay?” I muttered, seeing that she was very serious about whatever she was going to say. “You don't sleep on the bed. I love my privacy.” She said. “You don't talk when I'm talking. You especially don't use my bathroom.” I was already getting horrified by the words she was speaking. “In fact, you don't breathe around me.” She said, and I was taken aback till she laughed. “I'm just messing with you.” “Oh, okay.” I heaved a sigh of relief. “But for real, enjoy the couch. I'll take the bed.” She said. I looked over at the couch, and it was way better than the bed I sleep in. *** It had been two days since I got married to Blue Ashton, the Alpha of the Shadow pack. I had read everything about the pack, and it was indeed a fiery one. The road to her becoming what she is was a pretty difficult one. Life had been pretty normal since then. I had barely seen her in those two days. I had only spent one day in the pack house before coming back for classes since she was never ever around. “So, why's a car driving you around?” Liam, my second best friend asked. “One of my aunts discovered me, and she's being pretty nice to me.” I responded, thinking about what next to do. “I thought all your aunts had left you?” Chloe, the only reason why I had accepted this death wish of a job asked me. “Well, I never knew this one.” I responded sharply. I picked up one of my textbooks, and I was studying for a soon to come up test. The book wasn't getting into my head because I was more bothered about why humans can't feel the mate bond the way wolves feel it. Kylie had described it to me as something special. After all, I never even asked to be Blue's mate. There was a knock on the door, and Liam hurriedly opened it. From the smell of the cologne, I could already tell that it was Blue. The door opened and our eyes met. Liam was drooling over her, and I could not see Chloe’s reaction because she was not in my eye sight. “Erm, Maverick? Grab your bag and let's go?” She shrugged. “Erm… coming.” I said, putting my back into my bag. It was then I saw that Chloe’s mouth was still open from staring at Blue. “I'll see you guys later.” I said, walking out of the room. I closed the door behind, and I walked side by side with Blue. “Hope you haven't been running your mouth to your friends?” Blue asked. “Well, you saw awe on their faces rather than fear, so I think that sums it up.” I said, moving on. “I'll not have you talk to me like that.” She said authoritatively. “I'm just responding to your questions.” I shrugged, hoping she'd just leave it be. “So, there's a gala tonight, and you have to appear as my husband. Be calm, because this is the place you'll be tested first.” She said, and I gave an understanding nod. She led me to the car, and we drove to the pack house. She was barely in the room after that. It felt like she could not stand my presence or be close to me, so I took the loss. I styled myself, and I got ready for the gala. When I saw her, we both paused at the sight of each other. It was probably because she was taking her steps gently, but I was sure that I was just drooling. Her curves hit in the right places, her brown gown perfectly matched everything she wore. She was looking ethereal. *** Throughout the gala, she was exchanging glances with the so called Luca. I could see why she liked him. He was hot and confident. She introduced me to a lot of people who were definitely gossiping about me. We had barely gotten home when Blue was already planning to leave for another meeting. I wasn't even complaining because it means I do not have to see her, or deal with constantly knowing the right words to say. She had changed into new clothes, and was already downstairs , ready to leave when Luca stormed into the pack house. I was there to see the smirk on her face when he walked in angrily. “So, you chose a fucking human over me?!” He snapped. “You chose a fucking low life over me?” “You watch the way you talk about my mate!” She snapped right back at him. I stood beside Blue to at least show my support. Everyone in the pack house were now looking in our direction. I could tell from their looks that drama was very scarce around here. “I'll get you back.” Luca said possessively, before looking at me. “Even if it means I have to kill this lowlife.” “Watch the way you talk to me.” I growled. “You wouldn't dare!” Blue snapped at him. “You are mine, and you know it!” Luca growled. “Sorry, but whatever window you had is gone.” I said, holding Blue's hand. “She is mine now!” I said calmly. It seemed to infuriate Luca the more, and just when he'd have dived in to punch me, the door opened, and a group of unusual men walked in. They were all holding guns that looked laced with another sort of material. “Luca? What did you do?” Blue asked, obviously surprised about the situation. “Who is Mr Maverick here?” They asked, and I raised my hand. Two of them came over to me, pinned me to the ground, and handcuffed me whilst reading me my rights. “You are hereby arrested for the murder of Billy Campbell…” “What the fuck?” I snapped. “I didn't do it.” “You'll be taken now to the wolf court.” They said, dragging me out. Blue followed behind, alongside the pack. “What's a wolf court?” I asked. “How did I kill anyone?” “I didn't do that!” Is this the beginning of my nightmares? My eyes went straight to to the clock, and it was 11:13Maverick's POV I stood in front of my mirror in the room. Liam and Chloe stood by the door with their arms folded. I could already see the tears welling up in Chloe's eyes, but there was really nothing I could do about it. I turned to look at them, and I smiled.“You don't really have to go, you know?” Chloe begged.“I have to.” I responded gently, pulling her in for a hug. She cried in my arms, holding me very tightly. “Who knows? I might come back home safely.” I shrugged, caressing her hair. It didn't make her feel any better, rather she just cried the more in my arms. I couldn't bear to see her cry, so I pulled back from the hug. “Regardless of whatever happens, we have a plan, and we'll stick to it.” I said, holding her hand. “It might just work out fine.” “Where did this sudden optimism emanate from?” Liam asked, and I chuckled, looking at him with a shrug. “You can still run away, you know?” Chloe suggested.“Nah, that'll just make me look guilty.” I pushed the idea out
Maverick's POV It was the eve of my last day in court. The day that would determine my life from here on, and I was spending it with Chloe and Liam. Blue was nice enough not to ask for it since we had spent the past week together. Despite the fake news that rolled out everyday from several blogs and stations, we moved from gala to gala, from party to party, from my dorm to her house, and we had fun in every place possible. We sat under the night sky, somewhere in the woods, just enjoying the night air. I wasn't convinced about getting free of this. In fact, I was hoping that it'd just blow over, and they'd forget about me. Having my life under scrutiny and in danger by people who believe that I killed someone I don't even know was something I wasn't interested in facing. “Maverick.” Chloe called, and I turned my face to look at her.“Huh?” I asked, trying to enjoy what could be my last night in the world. “No matter what happens tomorrow, we'll always be here for you.” She assure
Blue's POV When I woke up, Maverick was no longer by my side. I could not see any of his belongings, so I knew he had left. I sighed, thinking deeply about how well he had gotten to me. I wasn't thinking straight anymore. I just have to save him in any way possible. I caused this whole mess, and it has somehow spiralled out of control. But how else did I expect it to play out? That he'll just be set free. I was plagued by several guilty thoughts when the door opened and Maverick walked in with a tray. I was shocked.“I thought you had left.” I groaned, sitting up as he walked towards me.“Can't leave you when I've not fed you physical food.” Maverick muttered, gently placing the tray on my lap. There was bread, tea, croissants, and butter. “There was no one downstairs, and I had the whole kitchen to myself, so I made you something to eat.” Maverick muttered. “Thank you baby.” I muttered, leaning in. He met me halfway, and we kissed. He took one croissant, and went to pack his ba
Maverick's POV The ride home was very quiet on my part. I just sat in the car, staring outside the window. It happened suddenly, but I couldn't say I was shocked. There was no way I expected them not to try anything to get me down in jail by all means. One of the other wolves was in my car and was bringing it back to the pack house. We left in numbers so no one would be able to attack us. Allison kept checking in on me through the rearview mirror, and I'd always smile every time. This was the longest drive we've had back to the pack house.Blue on the other hand was receiving calls, and kept on debunking everything they had to say about me.“C'mon, don't tell me that you're too stupid to see that that's AI, it'd break my heart.” She said to one.“Do better, you really don't think that one stab to the chest would have done that to Billy. Not even a silver knife can do that to an Alpha of his rank, and why the fuck was he just standing and watching?” When we arrived at the pack hous
Blue's POV Luca was the one blowing up my phone with calls. I could only hope that Maverick didn't see who was constantly calling me. I could already guess why Luca was calling me. Afterall, I had just told his investor friend to go to hell.“Allison, reduce the volume of the music.” I said, calling Luca. He picked up the call before it could even ring. “Blue, I've been trying to reach you.” He muttered over the phone. “Yeah. I saw that.” I said nonchalantly. “Why's that?” “I wanted to apologize about how things went the last time.” Luca said, and I frowned, definitely not expecting him to even talk about that. “Okay?”“Look, I'm really sorry.” Luca said, sighing. “I know that I've gone wrong in several ways, and I can't begin to atone for each of them one by one…” There was a short pause before he continued speaking. “But, I'll apologize for them every day of my life till my last if I have to.” He said, and I chuckled. “It's okay, Luca.” I whispered. “I didn't know that tha
Maverick's POV It was easier to see Blue's baby bump now. Her stomach grew bigger by the minute. I thought she'd use a surrogate since her duties as Alpha might be so important to her, but she shocked me. She was still in my embrace, and I kept patting her head. I had just finished with Tiffany, and the plan might just be solid, although it was all dependent on luck and chance. “Why do you think my life's in danger?” I asked calmly, disengaging from the hug. “Richard… my brother…. He's trying to get revenge.” Blue shrugged. “I thought he was headed here.” Her phone was blowing up, but she kept ending the calls. At some point, I was worried that she'd slam the phone in my face. “I'm just happy to see that you're not in danger.” She whispered, holding my arms. I scoffed at her words.“I'm always in danger. You just don't know it.” I said, holding her waist. She hugged me again, and I hugged her back. I might just be the definition of everything I never thought I'd be. I could not
