Chapter 3

Author: Stars
Facing Susie's hopeful gaze, Leon looked torn. Eventually, he still said, "Madison, we haven't held the marking ceremony yet. Technically, you're not the Luna. Why don't you let Susie borrow the necklace for a few days? I'll give it back to you after our marking ceremony."

The person I was having a marking ceremony with was not Leon, anyway, so the necklace no longer mattered to me. However, the moment my fingers touched it, countless memories washed over me like a tidal wave.

He was the one who placed this necklace around my neck years ago, swearing he would never mate with anyone but me. Now, he was taking away the necklace I wore for five years for another woman.

I removed the necklace and set it on the table. "You're right. I'm not the Luna yet, so wearing this necklace wouldn't be appropriate."

Leon did not expect me to give up the necklace so easily. His expression became complicated.

Then, he picked up the necklace and said, "On the day of our marking ceremony, I'll put it back on you myself."

At his words, a flash of jealousy crossed Susie's face.

I did not answer him. Instead, I watched as Leon fastened the necklace around Susie's neck.

In that moment, I let go of the necklace that had been with me for years, just as I was finally letting go of the relationship that had bound me for so long.

I set down my utensils and asked seriously, "Leon, since I gave you the necklace, shouldn't you give me back my ring?"

Leon stared at me in disbelief. "You want me to return our bond token? What are you trying to say? Are you telling me that you don't want to have the marking ceremony with me?"

I almost snapped back, wanting to ask him who it really was that did not want the ceremony. Nonetheless, I forced myself to stay composed. I wanted to preserve what little dignity I had left and did not want to sound like some bitter, nagging mate.

I just said calmly, "I just think it's not right for you to keep it."

Leon pulled off the ring and tossed it to me. "You're right. It doesn't suit me anymore. Time to get a new one."

With that, he dropped his utensils, took Susie's hand, and left.

My fingers gently traced over the moonstone on the ring. I went through hell to find that moonstone in the Moonlight Forest. Since he did not treasure it, he would never get another chance.

Over the next few days, I busied myself preparing for my marking ceremony. I did not see Leon even once, and he did not call either.

The long hours and stress triggered my headaches again. When my medicine ran out, I had to drag myself to the hospital despite the pain.

My vision blurred as I stumbled through the hallway, holding onto the wall for support. Just then, I heard a familiar voice.

"The doctor said you're fine, so don't worry," Leon said softly.

I looked up and saw him holding Susie in his arms in the waiting area. I did not see that gentle look in his eyes for a very long time.

Susie lay against his chest, pretending to be weak. "My stomach hurts so bad. I might need a few days to rest. But your marking ceremony is in three days. How could I not go as your bridesmaid?"

Leon stroked her hair tenderly. "Don't worry about it. The ceremony can wait. Your health comes first."

Watching them nestled together, I could not help but let out a cold laugh.

When I got home, I ran into Leon as he was picking up his luggage. He noticed the medicine in my hand, and his brows furrowed slightly.

He asked, "Your head is hurting again?"

I hummed in reply.

He glanced at the luggage in his hand and hesitated before saying, "I need to go away for a few days. Let's postpone this marking ceremony too. There's just too much pack business to handle."

I said blankly, "You're going to Susie's place, aren't you?"

A few days later, I received a phone call from Leon's friend, Miguel Sawyer. He said, "Madison, Leon is in the hospital and probably doesn't have much time left. He keeps saying your name. Can you come see him?"After I left him that day, Leon was devastated. After learning that Cillian took his Alpha position, he became even more resentful. He went to the place where we first met to clear his head, but unfortunately ran into rogues. This time, fate was not that kind, and I was not there to save him. Those rogues looked like they were starving for a long time, their eyes glowing with a predatory green light. At first, Leon thought about fighting back. However, he realized that even if he survived, he had nothing left now. With that thought, he gave up all hope of living and let those starving rogues tear into him.His heart went numb, and he could not feel any pain.Leon closed his eyes as a tear slid down his cheek. He thought, 'I'm sorry, Madison. I owe you.'By the time he wa

After the marking ceremony ended, the guests gradually left. As Cillian and I walked out of the hall, we found Leon covered in blood at the entrance. He did not leave at all and was waiting there for me the entire time. The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up. He stumbled forward, falling to his knees in front of me, and begged, "Madison, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn't have changed the names. Please, forgive me this one last time. I'll treat you better, I promise."I scoffed. "Now you regret it? Where was this before? My marking ceremony is complete. I'm Cillian's mate now and have nothing to do with you."Leon shook his head frantically. "Madison, do you remember this? I promised I'd put it on you myself at your marking ceremony."He pulled out the necklace that Susie wore and held it out to me with both hands. "Look, I got your necklace back for you. Can't you still be my mate?""It's too late, Leon. Our relationship ended the moment you abandoned me for Susie over and over a

By the time Leon rushed into the hall, the marking ceremony was already halfway through.Just as Cillian and I were about to receive the Moon Goddess's final blessing, the doors burst open with a loud bang.Leon ran in, panting heavily. When he saw me in Cillian's arms, fury instantly flashed across his face. He stormed up to the altar, pointing a trembling finger at Cillian."What the hell is this, Cillian? Madison is my mate! How dare you steal her from me!"Cillian remained calm. "You're talking nonsense. Dad personally arranged for this union. When did she ever become your mate?"Below the altar, Lucian said disapprovingly, "Leon, it's Cillian's marking ceremony today, not a place for your tantrums!"Leon froze, as if struck by lightning. His voice shook. "No, this can't be right. Madison and I are fated mates! Besides, Cillian is a cripple."Suddenly, realization hit him like a blow. He grabbed Cillian by the collar and roared, "Your legs, they're fine! You've been lying to

Leon asked in disbelief, "Marking ceremony? Madison, what are you talking about? I'm your mate, aren't I?"I feigned confusion. "Are you? But the Moonlight Tree clearly has Cillian's name carved on it."Before Leon could respond, I hung up the phone. I did not want someone insignificant like him ruining my good mood.Cillian stood before me, beaming as he waited for my arrival. Without the wheelchair, I finally realized just how tall he was.It turned out that after Cillian's mother died, Lucian took a new mate who gave birth to Leon. Cillian was originally his sole heir, but his stepmother was intensely jealous and insisted her own son become Alpha, sabotaging Cillian behind the scenes countless times.Knowing that one day her schemes might cost him his life, Cillian chose to step back and surrender the Alpha position to Leon. To prove that he had no intention of threatening Leon's claim, he faked an injury and pretended to be disabled. After all, no pack would ever choose a crip

Leon froze for a moment.I said, "Susie's stomach is bothering her, so of course you should go be with her."Leon exploded in anger. "You followed me?!"I scoffed coldly. "I'm not as pathetic as you are."Leon took a deep breath. "Susie's just an Omega with no one to rely on in this city. She's so pitiful. What's wrong with my looking after her? You're about to become Luna, so why can't you learn to be more understanding?"I immediately teared up. "She has no one to rely on? And I do?"I gambled everything to come to Moonshore Pack, hoping he would finally be my happily ever after, but all I got was disappointment. She was pitiful, but what about me?Leon paused, softening his tone. "You're different. You still have me."Before he could finish, Leon got a call from Susie. After saying "okay" several times, he left without looking back.He was leaving me alone once again....The day before the marking ceremony, I was preparing my wedding gown when Leon saw it and said disa
