Chapter 3: Could She Be Here?

Alpha Enzo's POV

It's been three days. Three days of trying to get her off my mind. Three days and yet no trace of her.

My sources had informed me about an intended rogues' attack on the Viperine Pack. I and my warriors surrounded the pack and remained hidden, hoping to the Goddess that these rogues would come and meet their most unlucky night.

But instead of rogues’attack, something else attacked my nostrils. The sweetest scent one could find, struck my nostrils and the animal in me growled.

I could swear by the goddess, that no rogue would small that good. I had to be careful, but then I also had to see who it was. I moved from my position, following the scent. From a distance, I could see her vaguely.

I followed behind her quickly, the scent intensifying as I neared. When I noticed that she was harmless and nothing like rogues, I became concerned that she might fall into their hands.

I reached out as fast as lightning and grabbed herin split of seconds, then covered her mouth so she wouldn't shout.

As I wrapped her in my arms to carry her to a safer place, a fire instantly started in me, a fire that got me aroused and filled my mind with dirty thoughts. She struggled slightly, but I held her place.

“I’m not going to hurt you, so relax.” I released her when I was such we're hidden.

“Just let me go please. Don't hurt me.”

“Relax! You're safe now.” I assured her.

“But I need to get you to somewhere safer, this place is extremely dangerous.

“Alright….then. Her words staggered like a drunken man. “I think I should just go back.”

She started moving as soon as she said the last word. I didn't want her to go. If I where to follow my wolf's leading, I wanted her on my bed. But that won't happen considering the situation.

I kept her company, till when I knew she would be safe. We couldn't even introduce ourselves properly. I felt my head warrior mind linking me and I knew something had happened.

As much as I hated it, I had to to leave her there and join my warriors, hoping the Moon goddess would be gracious enough to make our path cross.

There was something about her. The way my wolf was instantly attracted, could that be the feeling of finding your fated mate?

I hated today, but as much as I hated it, royal duties must be performed. Today is the day the king gives an award to the beat student of the Premier Shifting And Combat Academy. It is usually done at the recipient's pack, to encourage the pack to send more of their own to the academy.

I'm supposed to be happy though, because this year's recipient is my girlfriend and a sister to the alpha of her park - Lizzy. Today is also her eighteenth birthday party. If that mysterious girl didn't cross path with me, today would have been different.

The journey from Richmond to Alexandria had been smooth, not as I expected. I and my entourage arrived at the pack house and was received by Alpha Reuben and his Gamma.

As I made my way to my seat, a familiar and yet tantalizing scent struck the olfactory lobes of my brain, disrupting my once stable state of mind.

The animal in me awakened. Tyler, my wolf growled dangerously deep, it was the same scent as that of the mysterious girl.

Could she be here? My subconscious mind asked rhetorically.

The other alphas at the table bowed to recognize my presence and I raised my hand to acknowledge them. I took my seat while allowing my nostrils to trace the direction of the scent. I could feel Tyler already getting excited.

In the next few seconds of this hysteria, I saw her.

Lizzy Jordans!

Alpha Reuben's sister! The girl who had been my girlfriend for some months now. I liked her a lot, and cared deeply for her, except that I didn't love her. I only wanted to love my fated mate, the goddess chosen mate. If the goddess chose Lizzy, then I'll love her.

For some seconds, I forgot the scent I was following and looked at Lizzy. She wore a red long silky dress that covered her feet. It was split open so that one could have a glimpse of her cute thighs, just above her knee, as she walked.

Oh goodness! She's damned beautiful! Tyler whispered in my head.

Go on. Go talk to her! Tyler urged and I obliged. It was her party anyway.

Before I made any move, she turned to my direction fortuitously.  When her gaze met mine, she lavished her face with the warmest smile I have ever seen on her face.

She quickly moved to the table and bowed excitedly.

“Whoa!!! Your Highness, you came? I can't believe it.”

I chuckled.

“Weren't you expecting me?” I asked amusingly.

“I did, but when you didn't show up all this while, I thought you wouldn't make it.” She smiled again.

“Well, I'm here now. So, happy birthday.”

“Yeah! Yeah! Thank you” She stammered.

“And you've just completed my joy.” She seemed completely happy to see me, and she didn't hide it. Looking at her, it was as if she had other expectations for this evening that I didn't know of.

“This is for you. Happy birthday once more.” I stretched my hand towards her, to hand over the gift I bought for her, but she crossed the space between us and hugged me instead.

“You even remembered to bring gifts, thanks so much.” She whispered into my ear before she withdrew herself.

She's not the one. Tyler bellowed in my head, interrupting my thoughts.

“Would you mind dancing with me?” She asked, her eyes fixed on mine.

Say no to her! She's not the one! We need to go get your mate before it's too late.

Tyler shouted in my head, becoming impatient all of a sudden.

“Mate?” I asked Tyler through my mind link.

“Of course, why not.” I gave Lizzy the answer she wanted to hear and she smiled. I needed to ignore Tyler tonight.

I thought the bond was pulling to Lizzy but no, the smell had weaned and I was becoming angry with Tyler for the disappointment I felt.

Lizzy took my hand and was about to lead the way to the dance floor when I heard my name.

“Your Highness!” I turned to see my defence minister who had come with me.

“Forgive my meddling, but you shouldn't go to the stage until the time of the award presentation.”

Maybe he was right, but I need to shake myself from the thoughts of the mysterious girl and the scent that refused to leave my mind.

“Well, is there a law forbidding me from dancing with my girlfriend?”

He shook his head defeately.

“Well then, allow me do right by this beautiful celebrant.” I replied.

That being said, Lizzy led the way to dance floor and we started dancing.

“Thank you your Highness” Lizzy whispered into my ear.

“You're welcome.” I responded mindlessly.

I wanted to say something else, but the same scent struck my nostrils again. But this time, I came as a mate bond which became stronger almost instantly.

It seemed Lizzy said something else but I was hearing her voice faintly.

I turned my head towards the direction the  bond was pulling me to, but there was no one there, only a door that's close.

This is the time. I've waited forever for this moment. Tyler growled deeply.

My eyes were so fixed on the door that it took all of my restraint not to go break it open. I didn't know that Lizzy had noticed my intense stare and was also looking at the door.

“Your Highness!” Lizzy called, pulling my hand that was still in hers.

“Are you alright?”

I was about to reply or at least say something when the door swung open and my gaze on the door intensified.

Mate! Mate!

Tyler's animalistic instincts seized the moment.

In the next second she came out - dark green-colored eyes, about 5 '6 or so, with dark brown long wavy hair that covered almost her entire face.

She was the mysterious girl I've so much wanted to meet. The world stood still at that moment, and I forgot where I was.
