Selene's POV
I shivered as goosebumps flooded my skin due to the cold. I pulled up closer to the walls, trying to find some warmth disregarding the fact that the dungeon I was currently in had a foul odour. My hand brushed across the blood on the wall and I hurriedly retrieved them. I was cold and in pain.
My eyes hurt from crying so hard. I moved away from the bloody walls but ended up stumbling against the bones I had been desperately trying to avoid. There were skulls and different body parts of the deceased, I shuddered just thinking about what the owner of those body parts must have gone through to end up like that.
I suddenly heard footsteps approaching which was strange. This was my second day in the dungeon but no one has ever come this way. Was it Orion? Did he realize I was innocent of his accusations? A flicker of hope bloomed in my heart as I rushed towards the old rusty bars. I held the bars to support myself repeatedly trying to glance at the person approaching.
My smile disappeared when the person I had been anticipating stopped in front of me.
"Why did you stop smiling? Aren't you glad to see me?" She faked a smile. It was none other than Vivan, Orion's ex-girlfriend.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, glancing above her shoulders to see if she was alone.
She took a step back scrunching up her nose. "This place reeks of garbage and I'm sure you must have gotten used to it. Just like the garbage that you are."
"That doesn't reply to my question." I shot back, ignoring her insults.
"Ohhh, I get it. You're waiting for Orion to come save you?" She continued, "nobody is coming to your aid baby girl."
I shook my head confidently, "He will come. He will soon get to his senses and realize that I wasn't wrong at all..."
She cut me short, poking my head with her long nails, "He won't. He will continue to believe that you're a liar and a cheater that doesn't deserve a place in his life. Your mere existence will irritate him."
"Stop spewing nonsense. You know nothing about me." I retorted angrily.
"I won't stop anything Selene, because I just started. I fabricated every evidence needed to convince Orion that you're a cheap whore." She smirked wickedly, "now you're exactly just where you belong. Rot in hell for all I care."
I stuttered in disbelief, trying to process what I just heard, "what do you mean you fabricated... Does that mean you're..." I gasped in disbelief unable to find my words.
She didn't act remorseful or scared that she has just plotted against the future Luna of her pack, "Can you just drop the act Selene? You knew from the onset that Orion was never yours. He's mine and will always be mine. So get your dirty paws off." She growled.
I stood there speechless and confused, I couldn't remember ever snatching Orion from anyone, the bitch was the one who betrayed him and I only cared and gave him a shoulder to lean on. So why was she venting her hatred on me.
"You- you just committed treason and Orion will execute you for it, just you wait and see."
She let out a strangled laugh, "Are you this dumb? You can't read the handwriting and see that Orion is now my puppet and under my control? Just wait and see how you'll join your baby soon."
I grabbed the iron bars forcefully, "what... what did you just say? Where is my baby? Answer me now! Where is he? This isn't love, this is pure deception and you don't deserve Orion."
She didn't flinch, "Bark all you want. You can't do anything bitch."
My heart bled at the thought of anything happening to my baby, "Vivan please, don't do this to my child. You can take out your anger on me but not my baby... please." I pleaded as hot tears streamed down my cheeks.
I was hurt and devastated, I didn't think Vivan would do such a thing and I was sure Orion wasn't aware of her devious plans and acts. My eyes darted around to see Orion strolling towards us.
"Orion.... don't trust her, She's the one behind it. Trust me, I didn't do anything." I pleaded tearfully.
If looks could kill, his cold glare would have sent me to an early grave, "Shut up! Don't dare say my name. It's Alpha, you have no right to take my name in your filthy mouth." He responded coldly.
He had his cold gaze again making him look unapproachable but that might only be a font to protect himself from being hurt.
"You wouldn't come here if you didn't care for me. The fact that you came here means that underneath all this you still care deeply..."
"I don't care about you. I told you I want nothing more to do with you." He retorted, cutting me off.
"You're hurt thinking you were betrayed by the one you love but I promise you I'm innocent. I didn't do anything wrong." I pleaded, reaching for him.
"Don't be delusional. I didn't come here to listen to your lies, I'm here for something else." He declared.
How can a person's heart change so much? It still felt like yesterday when he proposed his undying love to me.
"Why are you being so cold towards me? We've been together for years, I'm not the liar here. Vivan..."
"Do you want to implicate her with your lies as well?" He asked harshly.
I shook my head. I was cold and weak but I was trying my best to explain things to him.
I moved, trying to hold his feet amidst the iron bars, "Please, our child needs me. Don't punish him, I'm the one at fault here."
"And that's why I would never forgive you Selene. You, you killed an innocent child in the process of your shameful acts. You're a murderer and a cheat!"
Reality dawned on me, "What.... what are you talking about? I- I didn't do anything." I shook the bars with all the agony in my heart, "how can you say I killed my own child?"
He glared at me coldly as he grabbed my chin through the bar opening, "the child didn't survive, Selene. You killed it during child birth. I should kill you right now because you don't deserve to live!"
He pushed me hard to the wall, the incident made me slump on the floor coughing badly, "you're bad luck Selene. You do nothing but bring harm to people around you."
Pain writhed through me as Orion's words echoed in my head, my baby died during labour? Why, why does this have to happen to me, how could I lose everything in one day? My lover and my symbol of love, what was there to live for again.
"Alpha!" I heard someone call out in a loud tone.
"What is it?" He asked coldly, his eyes not leaving mine. It was his beta, he appeared scared like he had seen a ghost trying to catch his breath.
"Are you deaf? Speak out!" Orion's voice thundered.
Just then, an unknown figure walked in and judging by the way Orion's countenance changed, he seemed afraid.
"Alpha Orion, the Alpha King requests your presence now!" He declared with a firm voice.
Orion gave me one last deadly glare as they strolled out.
Brent’s POVThe hallway was empty save for the faint sound of footsteps echoing in the distance. My hands clenched into fists as I walked quickly away after the encounter with Candice. That woman had a way of getting under my skin, her words like needles pricking at my pride and patience. The audacity to question my competence after everything that had happened — after what my men had faced — was infuriating.I pushed the door to my quarters open with more force than necessary, the sound of it hitting the wall startling one of the soldiers stationed nearby. He glanced at me, then quickly looked away, recognizing my mood. Smart man.Dropping into the chair at my desk, I ran a hand through my hair, trying to settle the boiling frustration that Candice had expertly ignited. She always had to have the last word, always had to prove she was the smartest person in the room. And the worst part? She wasn’t entirely wrong about Zeus.I hated admitting it, even to myself, but her insight into h
Candice’s POVI was utterly annoyed when the news of the failed operation got to me. I had expected Brent to have been more aware and prepared. It was certain he had underestimated Zeus. This was the same reason I had wanted to be involved with the operation and not just give ideas on what should be done.I needed to go and talk to Rodrigo and give him a piece of my mind. He and his men had fumbled up a perfectly laid-out plan, and I wasn’t going to sit idly and watch them continue like this. If I was going to have my revenge on Zeus, then I was going to do more than just give advice and sit in this gigantic castle. I needed to be directly involved with every operation; from planning to execution. If there was one person who knew Zeus as much as he knew himself, it was me.I stepped out of the room, completely ignoring Lucia who kept on calling out and running after me. I wasn’t going to allow anyone to stop me from giving Rodrigo a piece of my mind. I was about to round a corner to t
Selene’s POVThe day went by slowly. I had barely left the room since my encounter with the goddess. Eleanor was the best guardian anyone could ask for. She dotted on me like I was her child. Constantly checking to make sure nothing went wrong. With her, I knew I was completely safe from immediate harm. Her son had recovered from the injuries he had gotten from the fight with Zeus and Evan. The perks of being a wolf were the accelerated healing, amongst other things. He was up and about, getting involved in the activities around the safe house. He had been in to check on me a few times too. Eleanor and her son had become the family I had always prayed for.I spent my time indoors knitting, using it as a form of distraction. I know the goddess had asked me not to worry or disturb myself again but I couldn’t help the thoughts running about in my head.It was almost noon when I heard movements coming from the compound. I got up from the bed and stepped out of the room. From the look of t
Brent’s POVRodrigo was furious. I could hear the commotion from outside his office door. I didn’t need to go in to know that he would have tumbled his office by the time I’d gotten there. We all stood outside, everyone afraid to approach the office.I stood in patience waiting for the moment Rodrigo would be calm enough for me to approach him and talk to him. I’d known from experience that approaching him when he was raging wasn’t the best move for anyone to make.Minutes passed as the muffled sounds of Rodrigo’s rage subsided. The soldiers who had been standing around glanced at me nervously. I kept my face neutral, masking my own unease. Dealing with Rodrigo when he was angry was like walking on hot coals and expecting your foot to not get burned. Finally, silence could be heard from inside the office. I stood for a few minutes, listening for sounds so I wouldn’t walk into another fit that was waiting to explode. When I was sure he had calmed down a little bit, I took a deep breath
Zeus’ POVThe room was filled with a heavy silence as I sat at the head of the table, my fingers tapping an irregular rhythm on the table surface. The shadows cast by the firelight seemed to dance mockingly as if they knew the war raging inside of me. The betrayal of Marcus and Gregory was a deep wound, a knife in my back from men I had once trusted wholeheartedly. My thoughts were restless, wandering endlessly over their disloyalty.A knock at the door broke through my cloud of anger.“Enter,” I commanded, my voice cold and calculating at the same time.Evan and Jack stepped inside, their expressions humorless but firm. They bowed briefly before straightening. I could see the tiredness in their eyes despite their attempt to hide it. Evan’s uniform had little cuts around it, a faint line of dirt across his sleeve, and a small tear near his shoulder. Jack had almost the same look about him, though his demeanor was as sharp as ever.“Guys, good job today,” I said, leaning forward slight
Evan’s POVThe door closed behind Jack and me as we exited Zeus’ office. The importance of the mission was becoming very evident with each passing minute. The stakes had never been higher, and there was no room for error. Zeus had trusted us with this plan, and failure wasn’t an option.“We need to move now,” I said to Jack, my voice low but firm. He nodded, his expression as sharp as mine. There was no time to waste.Within minutes, I assembled the soldiers in the strategy room, dividing them into four different teams. Each soldier’s face was tight with focus, their postures rigid as they awaited my instructions. I moved to the front of the room, letting my gaze run across them, making sure I had the attention of everybody in the room.“Listen carefully,” I began. “This mission is crucial to uncovering the traitors in our midst. Each of you has been selected because I trust your tact, skills, and discretion. There will be no second chances. We need absolute stealth and precision.”I
